Carleton students Sydney Botz '19 and Haley Grable '20 spent the summer of 2017 working with Peter Hill '00, founder & coordinator of the Lakota Immersion Childcare at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Hill and his colleagues at Thunder Valley CDC (www.thundervalley.org) are working to revitalize Lakota language and culture by creating and developing educational curriculum for the next generation of fluent speakers.

From a spiritual perspective people migrate through different races to learn as part of their development for their spiritual ascent. Thus, people will incarnate within a people that they need, that offers them what they need to learn at that time. Also, the language is always an extension of the Word, God's Word, which is the giver of life itself to Creation, and so the language is vital for the right expression of the spiritual abilities of a community. If everyone spoke in English, it would be akin to cloning all flowers into one universal type, which would naturally be boring, for beauty is meant to be expressed in so many different ways, that are unique to the person, or the people to whom they share their incarnations with. Hence, why a china man does not look right in western clothes!! Thus, language, clothes, lifestyles, cultures are all forms of beauty that need to be developed and refined by individual peoples, for the benefit of all, so that one day they all make up one beautiful big whole, that represents the different types of intrinsic qualities of mankind, and which were gifted inherently by the Great Spirit. These tendencies just needed to be uncovered by mankind through their longing for beauty, and uplifting themselves and their environment. I am so pleased to see that the Lakota are beginning to make these journeys again with a revival of their traditional ways of life, and former value systems. This will surely strengthen their spiritual connections to the Great Spirit, and ensure their further development in the greater scheme of things for the blessings of all concerned ! Blessings to all those involved with these projects and works, and long may it continue !!!
