yes it is! The first time I heard her was on a Marcus miller live CD my neighbor had downstiars and I immediately ran down to ask who was that singign because the lower register was eerie how much it sounded like Donny. he said Lalah and it made every bit of sense then. I saw her do a tribute concert to Shirley Horn and Carmen McCrae a true jazz setting which she said was the first she had ever don. no Funk. Man, it was unreal. Speaking with her afterward I told her she sounded a lot like her father then saying she must get that a lot. She said no, then said I hope I am doing him justice my friend and I said OH YEAH. She seemed moved by that. She's got the genes that no one else can !

Lalah Hathaway is a singers singer. A true VOCALIST in every sense of the word. Everytime she open her mouth, she gives a class. In my opinion, Ms. Hathaway is carrying on her father's legacy and building and maintaining a legacy of her own. Hands down... Lalah Hathaway is one of the BEST singers/vocalists in music history!!

I heard Lalah say in an interview recently that she has come to terms ( at least on one level ) with the fact that she IS her dad in a part of her soul and I think this is why she is more comfortable covering his work... And she really is the only person who could do it justice. Beautiful but also made me cry like the original does... that line about when I die remember this moment together - cuts right to it. Love

This brought tears to my eyes. Ms. Hathways voice is beautiful and so powerful I have goosebumps. Also she looks so much like her father, miss him dearly ... Like I knew him personally. His music deeply touched my soul. Rest in peace to a legend!

Me too Destinee. He was one of the greatest singers/artists of all time. This actually brings tears to my eyes because you know he's singing through her, you can clearly hear it. It's simply breathtaking. Lalah is truly exceptional and beautiful. I still tear up thinking that her poor father found some reason to take his own life.

I always regarded "A Song For You" as Donny Hathaway's song however Lalah came to the Apollo to tell us a daughter can inherit the gifts of her father and this version of the song belongs to their family. Beautiful spirit, beautiful woman and an amazing tribute. Was that a song or a pray?

Lalah really did inherit her dads voice. They both deliver some of the most heart felt, soulful, spiritual vocals...they give me chills. I really would like to hear her voice mingled and harmonizing with her dads. Something like what Natalie Cole did with some of her dads tracks.
