The legendary classical singer Biman Mukhopadhya on Sachin Dev Burman:
"Nai ba ghumole priyo…’, sung by K. L. Saigal and composed by my guru Shubol Dasgupta, became very popular in the early 1940s. Sachin Karta then requested my guru to compose a song that will even outlive Karta himself, Shubhol Dasgupta and the lyricist.
The song thus created was ‘Kaatha kao, Dao shara...’ In 1975, when Karta passed away, this song was played on Akashvani. The song had become immortal."

আমার গুরুজী।প্রতি হপ্তায় রবি বার করে হুগলী থেকে হাওড়াগামী ট্রেন ধরে যেতাম হাওড়া ।ওখান থেকে 215A bus করে নামতাম শোভাবাজার মেট্রো। তারপর হেঁটে একটু খানি। শ্যামবাজার এর এক অলি গলি র মধ্যে পুরনো ভাঙ্গাচোরা বাড়ি তে ই থাকতেন । সাদা মাটা জীবন কাটাতেন। রামকুমার চট্টোপাধ্যায় এর বাড়ির থেকে এট্টু দূরেই ওনার বাড়ি ছিল।

স্যার এনসাইক্লোপিডিয়া। ভীষণ ভালো লাগলো। স্যারের ক্লাশের দিনগুলোর কথা মনে পড়ে গেল। শেষের দিনে হাসপাতালে যাওয়ার ঘটনা স্মৃতিতে ভেসে উঠলো। সশ্রদ্ধো প্রণাম জানাই স্যারকে।

Respected Biman Mukhopadhyay was a living Encyclopedia of Bengali songs of all genres. It is extremely unfortunate that very little of this treasure, he collected, saved and nourished throughout his life, is recorded in due manner.

That fact that he never got any proper recognition and had to earn his bread and butter by providing music tuitions till his death also pains me a lot. Children of this generation (and in most cases their parents too) don't even know his name.

The biggest thing that I noticed was... his child-like enthusiasm & energy abt music even at this age !!! So touching to see that 🙆🏻‍♂️ Really wonderful to see him talking about my favourites Saigal & Burman da 😍😍

@Narayan Gautam, Burman Dada was exceptionally accomplished. He was not after money, but his love for music made him to leave the royal palace and lead a life of hardship as a commoner.

@SUPER POINTS Thank you for encouraging words. My contribution is subtitles and uploading it in 5 parts. The credit goes to Girindra Majumdar who lives in Agartala. He created this documentary in 2006 as a tribute to SD Burman. He himself is a recipient of Sachin Samman Award from Tripura Government.

@Deepak Dani Thanks or letting me know. There is one more, Part V which is final in this series of Biography by Girindra Majumdar. He has done research on Dada, sings his Bangla songs, and has won many awards which were displayed in the end of Part I. They will again be shown in Part V.

Saw this gentleman in many of the old Archival programs transmitted at various times - don't unfortunately remember his name, but the presence is unforgettable of a one-eyed rickety old personality, so modest but so sincere in his rendition of old numbers making them come alive in his own way. Would very much like to get some of those gold-mines from Doordarshan Archives on KZfaq - request some lively young enthusiast to take up this job!
