I own a 2014 Street Triple 675R, I just love it. Its light (compered to many) Sounds great when opened up. I had the bikes suspension set up by a pro, (For my weight) run the back ...Pirelli Diablo Corsa... tyre at a slightly lower pressure. The bike handles beautifully on twisty roads.... Fortunately, here in Spain the roads are better maintained, rough and potholes surfaces are not a problem. I believe the striple series of Triumph are just great.....Interesting to see how these bikes have progressed in the last few years though..I'm 73 so I suspect my hooligan days are numbered but to finish my biking, from 1963 to present riding the triumph is a real pleasure..

Ah, The eternal question. I think the Speed doesn't egg you on as much as the Street to go nuts. When I get off my Street after a ride I always feel like it's disappointed in me because we could have gone faster. I don't think the Speed is as judgemental. 😆 But no-one will ever have the answer to this question. Great video.👍

@mirlin235 I had an R model 2010 but changed it for a Daytona, Great bike but very uncomfortable. Then some silly old bloke knocked me off it and wrote it off. He nearly wrote me off as well. Two Broken vertebrae in my neck and a broken ankle. I've recovered ok though. Got a Z1000sx now, lovely bike.

@mirlin235 Sorry, I meant the Daytona was very uncomfortable. The Street Triple as you have said is very comfortable. Probably the most enjoyable bike I've ever owned, and I've had a lot. Indeed I am considering a new version RS but the new Ducati Monster is also interesting me. But deep down I am a Triumph fan.
@tigerick7291

@mirlin235 yes I think you're right about the Ducati but that engine is a belter, I've ridden a supersport and multistrada with it in and thought it was great. I haven't tried the 765 engine,though I'm sure it's great. I'm really thinking I want a naked bike again, the SX is excellent but it's so good and faultless it's quite boring/soul less if you know what I mean. Where do you live? Just wondering.
@tigerick7291
@tigerick7291 3 жыл бұрын
@mirlin235 well I'm not close at all. I live in West Yorkshire, England but I imagine the climate is similar. Ducati maintenance is expensive here too. Triumph have got more expensive here recently due to their popularity and premium image but not as expensive as the Italian exotica. It's a small world isn't it.😀

So.... @TheMissendenFlyer @Lambchoprides - I am on the look out for moving up from (my 2nd...) Street Triple RS 765 (the first one) to a Speed Triple RS. The Speed, is the engine more of a 'lump' bit capacity, or does it like to rev out? Not thinking it's as revy as the Street Mind. But a sense of urgency - The last big capacity bike I owned a K1200s BMW was just 'an engine' - fast, but uninvolving

My partner has a Street R which she loves, my son has the Street RS but is disappointed in it, possibly due to the fact that the addictive induction raw keeps getting him into trouble 🤦‍♂️. I rode the Speed RS a couple of years ago and it blew me away, absolutely loved it. I tested a lot of bikes that year and without hesitation I wanted one....so what did I do? 🤔 I bought a Tiger 1200 XRT as we were looking for a bike for the two of us for a European tour. The bike was amazing but my lady said that she would rather be riding her own bike now so maybe a Speed is back on the table for this year 🤞

What a great way to finish a Perth Sunday here, top comparison Gents. I spent some time weighing the pros and cons of both models and finally decided on the Speed. Key reasons, cruise control (great for longer rides), imu, far better display and the higher spec ohlins. You get use to keyless start too. Throw a low boy on her and you lose 7 kilos of upsprung weight too while the ohlins make it easy to adjust!! Roll on the 1160 :)

I've owned the street triple rs and it was one of the best bikes I've owned. I found it to be involving, fast, good handling and comfortable. The only criticism I made was it was way to firm for the UK roads (even with the shock adjusted) I now own the speed triple rs. I find the ride quality to be far better, it just feels so much more complete package. I love the attention to detail, the carbon parts, the arrow cans and the ohlins set up is utterly brilliant. August 2020 prices : Speed triple rs £13600 Free quickshifter (£300 option) £1000 deposit contribution £500 clothing voucher 1 years rac cover 1 years road tax So in comparison to the £10500 Street, it's not so much of a big step financially for the top of the range. Either bike is truly amazing whichever you decide!

I just bought a 2020 Speed 1050RS after owning a 2015 Street 675R for a few years. I thought the 675R was nimble and easy to throw around... until I rode the 1050RS. On paper it is 17kg heavier, on the road however it is completely different. It holds the corners better, absorbs the bumps better, smoother acceleration obviously without having to be at WOT to get it to move. It's honestly the bike I should have bought when I got the 675R, but I am glad I have finally gotten myself onto one now. It is an absolute dream to ride, and the de-baffled SC Projects muffler with mid pipe just sounds incredible (ear plugs needed for longer trips though!). Keen to get it tuned, as these engines respond very nicely to some extra timing!

I had the 765 RS and recently upgraded to the speedy and a couple of items not mentioned so far is that the speedy certainly runs hotter and the fueling is not as good at low RPMs. I could also ride the 765 on instinct and the speedy requires more attention. a much more serious ride. That said, I love the extra torque on the speedy (especially with a passenger) and am happy with the switch.

There is a current deal , running for a little while yet I believe, on the Speed RS. £1k deposit contribution, but you have to take the finance. Apparently you can pay the finance off after a couple of weeks, so you don't have to live with the 7.9% APR (if you can get finance cheaper elsewhere). On the current Speed RS deal, there's an included quick shifter. There's also a £500 voucher for clothing, but there is confusion over whether this also covers accessories. So it's possible you could get heated grips, and maybe an alarm for just a tiny bit over the £500 voucher. Ask you're local dealer :)

I had the 2018 Street triple R (with added quickshifter) but after watching and reading a lot of reviews on the 2020 RS I decided that I might buy it if my test ride was favourable, so after an afternoon spent riding around the north west of N.Ireland (were the N.W. 200 is run annually) and down to Enniskillen, I found that Triumph had genuinely beefed up the RSs mid-range and improved the ride quality to where it no longer felt like a stripped down supersport bike, I was on the verge of trading in my R when the dealer asked if I'd like to ride the 2020 R , I hadn't seen any tests on the new R and the only thing I knew was the new bike had the Bi-Directional quickshifter as standard but thought I'll give it a try, Phew! I'm so glad I did , Triumph have made just as many improvements to the R as they've made to the RS, apart from the quickshifter they've changed 1st and 2nd gear so that acceleration is improved, the body work changes replicate those of the RS, IMO the R is still the better every day bike right down to its Pirelli diablo corsa II tyres, which suit all conditions. you'll have no doubt guessed I didn't after all go for the RS, I opted for the R and I'm very pleased with my choice ,the only negative being the lack of TFT screen which has been replaced by the old 675 street triple dash, though the bi directional quickshifter more than compensates for this.

Went for Street triple R myself. New rider…. I would not see the lack of the TFT as downside. As it is not nearly as crisp as a BMW for example. And it shows too much information and is not as intuitive. I got the R and really love the LCD/analog dash combo. Get the info I need in an instant. And get real, most of the RS specs over the R are more suited to seasoned race track riders. And I am to old for that. But not too old to get a total blast riding the R. The R offers plenty. Also, the tires on the R are more all weather suited. Power on the RS is not the issue. I did like the RS on the test ride and it was still me riding the bike. The R does not feel lacking in any way. It is just the price difference of the RS vs the R and perceived value for money. For a few bucks the R can be turned into an RS lookalike. Belly pan, bar end mirrors and upgraded brake reservoirs. And with some ecu tuning the engine power could be made to match the RS… so I do not see any reason to buy the RS….. unless you are an experienced rider who can put the upgraded suspension and brakes to good use….. Now after putting 1000 kms on I know this is just the bike for me. Light, easy to ride, great sound and nice to look at. And plenty of potential to discover.

For less experienced riders the Speed is a better option, more experienced riders could find it a bit dull compared to the higher powered SDR. I had a £7,000 budget at the time I purchased it and couldn’t stretch to the extra for a 2017+ SDR. I’ve had a Speed R for 2 years which I plan to replaced next summer with a SDR.
@BigUriel
@BigUriel 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't ridden one but the general consensus is the SDR is just bonkers. The Speed is a bike you can ride sensibly and commute on, the Duke is a bike you wheelie out of every corner. Which sounds like great fun but it probably gets tiring when you just want to go from A to B and it keeps trying to make you lose your license, a bit like a superbike in that sense. Plus KTM looks are always an "acquired taste" (the Triumph does have ugly headlamps but those are an easy fix).

Sérgio Alves It’s quite easy to ride normally, with the quickshifter and all the torque you can just cruse around like a big scooter. The one I test rode only had 50 miles on it so had to ride it slower than I wanted to to get a good idea how it rides. I had a 2007 Tuono R Factory which was a mental bike, hopefully the SDR is the same.

I had test rides of the SDR and Speed Triple on the same day. SDR, awesome bike, but was a bit too bonkers for me. I'm sure lots of people "need" the SDRs kind of nutiness , me I opted for the less extreme nutiness of the Speed. ( as Bryan Haynes points out, I am a less experienced rider )

I own the street triple rs 2020 and i can see the dash and find it at least usable. Id definitely prefer the dash from the 2018. Theres an option so you can have the tachometer at the top of the screen to see in clear numbers what revs you are doing

Many pro bike testers actually prefer the Street R to the stiffer and peakier Street RS. The suspension is better suited to the roads and it has a bit more low and mid range grunt. The 2020 version is even cheaper than last years and has a proper analogue rev counter [hooray]. Would be interesting to get your thoughts on a direct comparison between the 2 [or 3] Street Triples. Great vid Chops [as always], take care mate and ride safe.

I'm just about to watch it. This is an issue I recently faced ! So this is my prediction. Speed RS lots more grunt, pulls from lower gears better. Street RS, lighter, a bit more flickable, and handles a bit better in the bends. Around the bends, not much difference in how fast you can go. Street is probably a bit quicker. On the straight Speed RS will leave the Street RS standing. Is the Speed RS worth the extra £3k, (there's a deal on right now, more like £2k) probably not, unless you like lots of low end grunt. Which I do ! So for me the Speed RS is the winner, but the Street RS is a very good bike, and if you're good at gear changing (I'm not) the Street RS will not be a lot slower than the Speed RS.

You mentioned deals to be had on the speed RS at Triumph dealers now. I was looking around at one one of these as my next bike. I spoke to my local dealers who offered me their ex demo with 500 miles on it for £10,500 😳😳 I hadn't tested the Tuono or Ducati Monster 1200s yet so I turned it down. Put my money on a new 1200s Monster in the end. Waiting for the Sept 1st new reg to pick it up. Keep up the good work, enjoy your videos mr LCR 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks guys a great review. As a first litre bike coming up from a smaller bike, the Speed is a great option. Easy to ride, smooth, enough naughty but also a gentleman. I have enjoyed owning the 2016 Speed R and highly recommend it. I think I'm now ready to move to something like a KTM SDR next, 2020 model. In comparison I found the Street Triple like an excitable teenager, energy, agile and it made me want to throw it around a lot but I got over wanting to ring its neck and ultimately I was happy to get back to the lovely planted feel of the Speed. Both great bikes for different reasons.

It really comes down to where you ride , how long you ride , and how fast you ride. I ve owned a 2011 Speed Triple for 5 years, and the extra power and weight makes the bike feel planted and more comfortable for longer touring rides, but also for high speed cornering. If you commute a lot in city traffic, you don't plan on doing too many roadtrips, and the roads you ride for fun are twisties with "reasonable" speeds then the street will be better. But if you want a sexier single armed swingarm, you enjoy longer rides, and you ride more open roads with fast 180 km/hr sweeping turns, then the speed will be better. I think the Speed also just looks better in general, a bit more beefy and single sided swingarm is way nicer. The sound of the Speed with my Sc project is also amazing. :)

This weekend I rode my 2015 Triumph Speed Triple 1050,I did a 350 mile ride mostly in the Mts and twisties.I just sold my 2016 Yamaha R1 but I still have the 2015 Triumph Speed Triple 1050 and a 2009 Ducati Monster 1100.I forgot how great this bike is,smooth with plenty of power.The Triumph 1050 is perfect for me because I'm 6'2 and it just feels more comfortable.I got rid of the heavy dual exhaust and have it tuned with an SC project CRT low mount in titanium.I shaved well over 20 pounds.Now my Monster 1100 is much smaller and lighter the 1050 just has more power everywhere.Think of the 1050 as a Rolls Royce ghost and the street triple as an Aston Martin Vantage.One is smoother has more power,while the other is lighter and more peaky.

Good comparison guys. Ive often wondered between them being a Triumph lover and owner. Ive noticed every video on Triumphs, The comments always have one or to saying super Duke. Its better, Lets race them. Myself i wouldn't want roar hooligan power all the time. I want power and excitement when i feel like and i like to travel long rides without the drama other times .So if i was interested in super dukes i would look them up. They must be sales people for them i think.

Great video as I'm currently considering both these bikes! Bit of feedback though: I tried listening to this video without watching, but as you keep referring to the bikes as "this bike" and "that bike" it made it impossible to know what bike you were talking about without keeping track of which bike who of you were riding the time. Hadn't thought much of it before but I suppose that's why reviewers often insist on spelling out the name of the vehicle to make it easier to follow, watching or not.

David Ebbs I understand why people install a low boy on speed’s for weight purposes but I find it takes something away from the bike. You still loose 3kg’s with a set of carbon oval SC cans, and they sound much better than those baffled arrows. Love the look of the arrows but to me, they’re a bit “all show and ney knickers”. Remove the baffles and the thing will pop and bang till your Heart’s content. It’s addictive.

@Oddjob6120 I think most people would agree they both look ugly lol I've seen some single conversions as they looked pretty good. Triumph fans will always find them weird simply because the twin lights are such a trademark Triumph look, with a single it looks more like a generic naked bike. It's one of those cases in which the ugly is actually part of its charm. But the old round doubles definitely look much better than the bug eyes, even if they do look a bit dated. It's still not pretty but it looks mean and muscular, the bug eyes are just ugly with no redeeming features. The Speed ones that is, they look much better on the new Street (and the next Speed will probably get those too).

The headlights aren't wonderful. They could always be worse, just look at the current BMW S1000R, or KTMs, the Yamaha MT10 . Mind you, I do know people who like those ! So BMW , KTM and Yamaha do manage to sell plenty of them. In the superish 140 BHP plus naked class, for me Honda seem to have the best headlight on the CB1000R.

@Oddjob6120 I don't mind the Speedy or Streety lights, they're okay. I do have a soft spot for a single round headlight. Maybe I'm a bit of a dinosaur. I'm am currently swapping a Street S for a Speedy RS, so I can't mind the headlights that much . Although I think the Honda CB1000R light looks a bit better, I preferred riding a Speedy over a CB1000R.
@karlosh9286
@karlosh9286 4 жыл бұрын
@Oddjob6120 I agree , you don't need more than a Speedy on the road. I test rode a Honda CB1000R , very pretty , but a bit too smooth, suspension a bit soft, dash was really hard to see, a KTM 1290 super duke, way too bonkers for me ( and that really does have "challenging headlights"), a Street Triple RS ( I already had a Street S 660cc derestricted to 94 BHP ) , and a Speed RS. The Speedy had the all important low down grunt. Honda had to be wound up a bit , by which time it was already getting to naughty speeds. Super Duke well that was nuts, very vibey, vibes reminded me of my Speed Twin ( So I do have 1 round headlight bike !). The Street RS , whilst better than my 660cc Street S 94 BHP, wasn't massively better. Test ride on Speedy RS just brought a massive grin to my face, and the Arrow cans sounded the best out of all the bikes I test rode. I thought that the current Speedy RS handled pretty much as well as a Street RS.

I prefer the speed for it's stability and grunt, it's more relaxing day to day. Instant overtake torque, growly sound. Feels like a man's bike. The Street is great fun but feels more like the kind of bike you take out on the weekends and trash, if you prefer bikes like the Honda CBR600RR you might also prefer the Street over the Speed.

I like grunty torque because I ride a tricked-out, hopped-up FireStorm that is oodles of fun to ride. In this comparo, if I had a great deal of extra cash on hand, I'd wait for the 2021 Speed Triple RS, which is set for both aesthetic and horsepower upgrades. The exhaust will no longer be undertail, which will lower the center-of-gravity slightly and thus improve handling and balance through corners. On the other hand, if I were looking to get a great deal, I might wait until Spring and then try to work an outstanding deal on a 2019 or 2020 Speed Triple RS. The 2019-2020 Speed Triple RS is an excellent motorcycle, and the design of the Arrow undertail titanium exhaust makes it easy to grind-out and remove the baffle in order to get a nice, throaty "triple" sound.

The street rs is a race breed bike... much more feel and top end speed. The speed is heavy metal naked street bike :) it has nothing to do with racing and you can feel that. Choose what you like but make no mistake these are different bikes in the DNA. For me the Street RS is just epic...

G'day Mr Chops. A great road test and conversation about the merits of these two bikes. Gregs input to the to the video rates a mention as well. Well, for me i think the Street shades the Speed by a smidgen. In a drag race the Speed would get over the top of the Street but not by much but in the twisties the Street would runaway from the Speed. I say this because of it's lighter weight and quicker steering. This depends on the riders of course, tall and fat or medium and thin, mmm.

Thoroughly confused in the end. Would’ve helped to have the bikes side on as opposed to head on. Choice depends a lot on what you want the bike for, funds and whether you’re a good enough rider to justify the extra. I’m not but I like the carbon fibre more than the plastic - more expensive if you drop it.
