Here's a quick tip: when you jump, you can control two main things: how high you jump and the speed going into the jump. These two factors are independent of each other. There is acceleration in the y-axis (gravity,) but none in the x-axis. Therefore, assuming you hit a jump at a constant speed every time, the only way to jump farther is to jump higher.

but there's a point where if you jump too high, the distance will be shorter. I don't think you'll get to that point though haha
@tadejstrah

The physicist in me loves your comment😄 to add a bit - in case of jumping (or throwing an object into the air at an angle) distance is determined by your speed and the starting angle of your trajectory (steepness of the lip). If you increase this angle, up untill 45 degrees the distance will get longer, but anything steeper will shorten the length of the jump, but you will jump much higher. Thats why dirt jumps are usually very steep and short. They are way easier to mess up but much more fun imo:)
@shemshem9998
@shemshem9998 4 жыл бұрын
Thil will work untill a certain angle, your speed and hight are actually directly related, your terminology works up to a certain hight. That is why when slopestyle riders can do a entire course without pedaling but in the competition run when they go way higher they trow a few pedalstrokes in before almost every jump, I know this is also cuz of stuff like 360 costing extra energy and sideways landings but hight is also a factor. Another example is the backflip, it is essentialy preloading way too much, but when someone does a backflip they go into a jump at way higher speeds.

Dude this is exactly what I struggle with and have had the fear since going nose heavy really really badly like you one time but luckily I rolled out of it somehow and just recently have gotten some confidence back and sending jumps, however I still don’t preload much or boost them hardly at all, I just can’t seem to nail it and I get timid. I know your feelings! Great video!
@colbysmith3026
@colbysmith3026 4 жыл бұрын
Always good to see people progress. Pumping and popping off the lip is a crucial part of jumping, whenever you get that feel down you can start to figure out how to stay more neutral in the air and rotate your bike nose down or however you want into the landing (like Colin did in the follow cam) once you reach that buttery smooth transition you know you’ve mastered it.

Video thumbnail is just a tease; we want to see Bobo clear that wooden jump ramp! Nicely explained with the inflatable doll: couldn't be clearer LOL Landing jumps will take some coaching too before anything else.... And to practice the preload, a couple (or even a single) 2x4 and an old plywood sheet is fine. aah the old days of elementary school yard long jump bike contests....

I had the same experience when I tried to teach myself rollerblading and snowboarding. I wasn't a natural, so no matter how much I practiced, my skill level would not rise beyond a low ceiling. When I took lessons, I broke through that ceiling and took my skills to a higher ceiling, but then I was stuck there. Every time I took a lesson, I'd reach a higher ceiling. I just wish I had gotten a teacher when I tried to self teach myself how to fly an RC planes. The cost of the teacher would have saved me thousands in destroyed planes.

I recently had a similar insight at my local skills park. After hearing forever (years) to do most of the preload with my feet and not much in my hands I decided to try to copy what the good jumpers were doing- bring that bar in to your hips while standing up after the pre-load. Well, best results I ever got! The one thing that can happen is if you pull up unevenly you can get crooked in the air. But I guess I let that fear get the best of me. Keep it up! Arms baby!

Looking forward to seeing the progression. I feel like i'm also in a spot where I have decent jump skills, but get spooked on larger jumps. I'm afraid of getting bucked, and on the jumps I get nervous on, I notice I tend to screw up more. I think Colin brings up a good point where he talks having to pump and preload into all jumps otherwise you'll lose control/ get bucked. That really seems to be my issue is that on the larger jumps or jumps I know I've struggled with, I get nervous and ride them more timidly and don't preload into them, causing me to have problems. It makes a lot of sense to try and be more aggressive with my preload coming into them like I do on jumps I know I can clear. Mental games and blocks...

Something that helped me to learn to preload and stand up in the jump is think about pulling the bars toward your stomach when leaving the jump. It sets you up to preload without thinking, and leaves you in an upright position with lots of arm mobility to push the bike into the landing. That’s what helped me anyways.

I am ok at jumping as I can do a 15 foot double but on the first jump he wasn’t using the whole lip. When you jump preload a second before you reach the top of the lip and then just pull back and lean forward, but not too far as you may go over the bars but some jumps make you nosedive the jumps to do them correctly so ask people about it.

I managed a perfect jump at a local dirt track, it felt like I was riding over a hump, didn't feel the take off, didn't feel the landing and felt weightless in the air, it was the perfect parabolic flight. Never done it since but I can see why when you get it right it feels natural. Being scared and scrubbing the jump ( bringing the bike into you ) feels safe but opens up the potential for a bad flight. Cornering next, It seems to open up everything else

I've only been on 1 other bike besides the Reign 1 so I don't know what to expect from it. I Love to Climb because of the Earned Reward namely "The Decent"! I need some skills development though because 2 Helmets in 5 months is too much.
