These were incredible. I did all 4 and only got the second one wrong, I thought it was front left when it was front right, but because of that I now know how to tell which side properly. Thank you so much for your help!

Your videos are very helpful! I had trouble assessing in class and came to your videos to prepare me for clinicals. However, this video still has me perplexed. Is the gait normal in this horse? I'm also having trouble seeing the left hip hike you mention; then again, my eyes aren't very trained for minute detection. Thank you!

yes, this is a normal gait for a Standardbred - they pace, which means their left front and hind move at the same time, then their right front and hind, etc. where you'd see the opposing front and hind limbs moving in a normal horse. for those struggling with seeing hip hikes, especially small ones, it is best to pause the video 1. when the left hind is on the ground and 2. when the right hind is on the ground. draw an imaginary line with your eyes, or with your finger. in a horse that is not lame both sides will be symmetrical - if a horse is lame, the sound hip will fall lower when the lame limb is on the ground, creating a steeper diagonal line than when the sound limb hits the ground. the difference is very slight in this horse but more evident when you pause and examine.

Ok, that was a very hard to find, because you have only one view from back. there is no circling or watching from sides. but any how; I think the right rear limb was limping.
