Wow has been around for a while and Sylvanas has had quite a few things happened that changed her. Loosing her purpose of (un)living after Arthus was finally killed. Going to the Shadowlands and being tortured. Having her sister betray her. She is a character with one of the most if the the most character development in Wow’s history.

I guess different story writers were like, "we need to come op with something serious.. ah well f*ck it, let her burn Darnassus to the ground and be just generally evil and a douche, so horde won't comlain too much when we bring in a new warchief.. again.." or something on that line :D On the more serious note, yes it is quite a turning of tables to see her do the same, but it's a bit of mimicking life. Think about it, the circle of hatered never ends, if a parent hits and "tortures" their kid, it's much more likely that the kid will do the same to their own children. Something similar happens here I think, because if you think about it Arthas is the bansee queen's father in a twisted way (gave her "life", formed her in his image, etc). In short, like father like daughter.

Shows how less you've understood her developement and her character arc from bc to legion. Let me wrap this up real quick. 1) after Arthas' death Sylvanas' thinking about her 'people changed drastically. Whereas the Undead first were simply arrows in her quiver to shoot at Arthas, they became her people who deserved protection and a right to live their new undead lifes the way they want to. This shows in her argument with Garrosh during the Gilnean Front. 2) Unlike the living the undead can not procreate nor are they truly undead. Many of her subjects over the years suffered from simply rotting away. To confront this their subjects as well as herself need new 'energy' to fuel their bodies with. So, Sylvanas needs to do ihr things needed to keep her people kicking. 3) the decision to keep the new weapon called Blight even after Arthas' dead is a statement to her attitude of "who knows, we may need it again". There never was really any moral construct which guided her to begin with. Conclusion: What Sylvanas since Cata was doing was basically nothing less than doing everything in her power to keep her people alive, united and strong. The Undead under her leadership deserved a right to live as much as any other race for they have proven themselves many times. Sure, her methods are what we consider radical but, looking at it blanky, they are not too different from the other races . They all pursue the destruction of their enemies, she just has a different perspective on what is morally okay during a war. She always was the person she is now, we just never saw her acting before.

@@Azunai4 She does have that loyalty to her people, but she has *too much* loyalty to her people imo, similar to what OP was saying about her mimicking the lich king, she is, and she is doing it for the expansion of her people, dont get me wrong, but she's doing it at cost to her *faction's* people too. I believe Sylvanas' goals are true and good in her eyes, but in the eyes of everyone else, and not including the forsaken, she's needlessly, and constantly committing mass genocide of both the horde and the alliance just for there to be more of her people to lead.

Well, I think - and hope - that by the end of BfA we will get more insight into why she burned Darnassus. Personally, I think Sylvanas suspects that an even greater danger than the Legion is arising, perhaps something from the deep Void, and that death/unlife is perhaps the key to stopping it. There have been clues to that scattered throughout BfA and perhaps even going back to the primary reason that the Legion was created and how Sargeras convinced Queen Azshara to worship him. If Sylvanas learned something of the dangers of the deep Void from Helya, it might explain why she has gone from calculating and defensive to her current state of "we must end this war by winning it NOW, at any cost." And with the raw power of Azerite, it gave her a good chance of finally winning the cyclical war. Sylvanas has always been vindictive and merciless to her enemies, it's just more of a question why she's now motivated to take a lot of risks that don't seem to make sense at face value. We know that Sylvanas thinks King Anduin is not just a man-child, but also a hypocrite easily influenced by his advisors. While Anduin and everyone else are fixated on the faction war, Sylvanas might be working toward something she sees as a bigger picture, like how to deal with the Void Lords that first created the Old Gods and seeded them on many planets.

She found her true calling. Banshee queen. She's getting revenge for past transgressions against the High Elves and The Horde. No more tears. Only salted earth and fire. Horde has had this in the works for a very long time.

@@TheChoujinVirus not everything, she met the jailer on the shadowlands from the looks of things and was swayed to work for him, after she threw herself off of icecrown citadel and was impaled on one of its saronite spikes, alongside an val'kyr reviving her, she also came across arthas there
