Just a tips: i was in a similar spot as you were. I highly recommend the pilot capless / vanishing point in fine or the Platinum in fine. Bothe are a bit finer than the Lamy 2000 in EF and are a joy to write with. Good luck hunting for new pens, hope you find your grail :)

When pen makes thin down stroke with thicker cross stroke - it's called architect nib. If you're looking for finest extra fine nibs. The only way for you is a Japanese pen brands like Platinum, Sailor, Pilot. Modern western fountain pens always tend to write a thicker line compared to Japanese pens, even in EF size. Thinnest EF nib is made by Platinum - it's called Ultra Extra Fine. Here are these pens - Platinum 3776 UEF and Platinum President UEF.

Interesting! I didn't know that. This was how the Lamy 2000 EF came. I tried the Pilot VP extra fine and it was too fine. Lol trying to fine something between that and the pilot fine. Any suggestions? I tried the platinum 3776 fine as well and it was pretty good.

@@gens.happyspot2121 I looked once again in your video. To me it also looks like your Lamy 2000 EF writes slightly like an architect nib. Still it's a very marginal difference between down stroke and cross stroke to me. I also noticed that you hold your pen a bit higher than standard. Try to change your grip a bit. Lower your hand angle and write this way. Grip could cause this. Because Lamy 2000 nibs made a bit different than usual. They have a narrow tipping material at the point or what a commonly called sweet spot. It causes pen to skip when you rotate it left or right. Maybe this sweet spot also causes EF nib to write like an architect at a high angle. Tell me later. Does lower angle grip helped to change how Lamy 2000 EF writes? Using your own eyes is the most effective technique to determine the ideal nib size. Search "goulet pens nib nook". Brian Goulet invested great deal of time and wrote in all of the nib sizes that his store carries. You can find your Pilot VP nib there. Search by brand in a drop down menu then click "add to drawer", compare and choose what suits you best. If nib nook doesn't help you. You may visit brick and mortar store. Like Anderson Pens. I personally bought from them in the past. I was super satisfied with their top notch service. For example I know about Sailor medium fine nib. It has a size between fine and medium. But I never heard about nib with the size between EF and F. If you unable to find commercially available pen with you specific nib size. The only way for you is a nibmeister. It's a craftsman who would grind down any pen you want to any smaller size, tune up and smooth it out by your request. Look up the sbrebrown video "On Nibmeisters" on KZfaq. He links to the excellent nibmeisters and covers this subject in great detail.

Thanks so much for this. I felt the same about the Lamy 2000 EF and replaced the nib with a fine. Best decision!! The Fine is def the sweet spot

My EF L2K is exactly like this too. It was definitely unexpected. It writes beautifully but definitely more like an architect grind. Once I got used to it, I find I like the character it gives my block printing. I’ve found an awesome smooth fine nib in a TWSBI Eco, *_if_* you get the right one. Thanks for sharing! 🧡🖋

I love that you made it work! With my writing style it wasn't the best match but still a fabulous pen!

I agree that you need a luck to get the right one. I have several fountain pens including twsb diamond and the writing experience with that one was not as smooth as expected.

Thanks so much for the review it was just what I was looking for! If you’re ever looking to sell one of the Lamy 2K’s I’m actually looking to buy one second hand right now :) thanks for the video!

This is a known quality of the Lamy 2000's extra fine nib. It is intentional though I have no clue as to what drove Lamy to do that. I have a Lamy 2000 with a fine nib and I love it. It make writing cursive effortless. It is so smooth and on the right paper offers the tiniest amount of feedback which I adore.

I've had two Lamy 2000 EF nibs and they did the same thing. I actually contemplated getting the F after I damaged the first nib but because that cross line was so thick I didn't switch to fine because I was afraid it would be more like a broad (and I like really fine pens). I think that's just how they grind them. Fortunately I've never had the issue of keeping it in the sweet spot so I've lucked out on that I think.

I do have to say, that you are having a firm grip!! How much pressure are you applying for normal writing? You are correct when saying that the EF L2k in particular has a stubby feel to it, thereby producing the line variation which is a very saught after characteristic, none the less.

Get a twisbi eco, those are some of my best writing pens, along with the pilot metropolitan. Any Japanese made pens have true fine and extra fine nibs which are awesome for those who write smaller, or those wanting to practice their handwriting/ penmanship. It’s always best to practice with fine and extra fine nibs because they are true to the lines you’re creating.

@@gens.happyspot2121 oh yeah, they most definitely are. I love my vanishing point too. In my opinion Pilot is number 1, I feel like every pen they make is the shiznit. 😁

@@gens.happyspot2121 I loooooove my VP. I've got 3. Or I should say 2 now because someone walked off with my favorite one that I carried everywhere. I think one of my students decided to 5 finger discount it. It really hurt because not only did it mean I lost my favorite pen but it also meant I couldn't trust my students like I thought I could. 😢

I have generally had best results with German EF steel nibs, Jowo, Bock, Schmidt and even Lamy. Save yourself the money. No benefit to a gold EF. Most of them are nails.
