The Untamed is not just the BL story. There is so much more to discover besides the main leads relation. The story is well written, the cinematography and the imagery is great. Beautiful architecture and country side. The soundtrack is like another character on its own; well developed and beautiful. Everyone has a song. But for me the best aspect is how well the characters are written. Not just the two main but the ones close to the two main characters. The show takes its time to flesh them out and show instead of tell. As an audience you can't help but feel emotions for them. Love them, hate them...The relationships are believable and well developed. I find the fact that not everything could be shown directly, the very limited physical contact worked in making the series better, more, special. There is so much tension and chemistry between the leads, it's burning through the screen. A kiss, a make out, a love making scene would have cheapened it. It's 50 episodes but it goes so fast. I can only recommend to watch this series.

The complexity of the storytelling is what impressed me the most about this series... but the romanticism is what has made me re-watch it over and over. The producers, cinematographers, costume designers, score composers, art directors, prop designers, actors etc all understood the assignment and seemed to have a deep love and respect for the source material. The show explores a number of deep and universal themes like what is right and wrong, speaking truth to power, mob mentality, history is written by the victors, might doesn't equal right etc., all the while balancing an epic romance arc alongside an epic fantasy arc AND a mystery arc. If you have the time and attention span to invest, your little gray cells (Poirot reference) will definitely be stimulated. And, as others have said, they turned working around Chinese censorship into a positive by throwing in little easter eggs for those willing to dig and pay attention.

Thank you for reacting to this! I love absolutely everything about this story! The characters, the plot, relationship dynamic, evrry adaptation it has. Just a side note: "Wei" and "Lan" are basically their surnames (same for their whole clans), so it's better to call them "WuXian" and "WangJi" or by their birth names "Wei Ying" and "Lan Zhan" (never just by a one-syllable name like "Ying" or "Zhan", that is considered rude). When Wei WuXian came back after 16 years (13 in the original novel this drama is adapted from), his soul came in a different body (not in the drama because they want to keep the same actor for his character), so it wasn't like seeing someone who died more than a decade ago, but still, agree that it has to be weird.

Comeback after 16 years because this is not full drama, it have fantasy and magic element. But this is very beautiful and unforgetable. I love the Untamed so much ❤

There is a filter on this video, but the original is just as beautiful. The cinematograpy of this series really is stunning. As for the favorite aspect: It was watching how Wei Wuxian became the villain in everyone's eyes, while making the morally right decisions most of the time. This series is my everything! My favourite aspect is definitely their relationship. Lan Zhan being overprotective and whipped for Wei Ying whereas Wei Ying being the oblivious one.

Yes, the serie is hands down one of the best series I have seen ever. The storytelling the characters development etc. brilliant. It’s a “meditation” though very dramatic one on the universal questions on what is good and evil on love and family. What I loved most about the series is the leads incredible chemistry. These two boys are incredible in their roles. But ofcourse it’s not just them. Everything in this show just works. Yes they have tightbudget when creating it so they “saved” on CGI special effects and grading. So that is answer tou your question 😂 there is filtr on this video, the drama doesn’t look like this. But it doesńt matter because it’s a very good story.

Are my eyes betraying me?! Why do I see The Untamed (or rather any mdzs related content) on Todd's Channel! This is such a pleasant surprise, looking forward to more. The character relationships are the backbone of this show, especially when many of the plots are show-original and not from the novel. It is also a bit low budget so not the best quality. I still like it because of how they respect (most of) the characters.

just wanted to clarify that wei wuxian didn't disappear he died when he fell off that cliff and was resurrected by someone later which is why he suddenly appeared again he wasn't missing he was dead

The characters are amazing, it has both funny and tragic moments, the cinematography is on point, costume design everything. Especially the story. I can't express how much I love it. I don't know if anyone explained it, but that scene where he says "soulmate," that's sort of an alternate translation of a word that is apparently hard to translate into English. The sub on Netflix says something like "lifelong confidante" for it -- and the word, zhiji, can kind of mean the person who knows you more than anyone else. I think it was a good word to pick to not be 100% explicitly romantic (for censorship reasons) while still being very moving and more meaningful than just saying something like "you were my best friend." And you know that the undertone is that it's *actually* romantic. People who make edits like to edit the subs there and make it say "soulmate" which I mean, it works! interestingly, the synopsis for the show on American Netflix does describe them as soulmates.

Technically he didn't disappear. He dies. A man (Mo Xanua) does a spell that removes his soul and Wei Wuxian came back.. They needed Xiao Zhan for the whole drama so had him just magically came back.

lol my favorite part of watching this series was peeling back the layers and finding a look and emotion in the eyes an action that shows the depth the producers went to to show the deep love without blatantly pushing sexuality as a product to consume yes you could feel it steam the screen but you just had to keep rewatching for the finer details that others noticed cause one watch just is the first layer of emotional complexity that is the untamed

the show's original lighting and colouring is better than every single edit I've ever seen and I've seen a lot. none of them surpass the original. especially Wèi Yīng's signature red colour

In China, the surnames come first, so Wei and Lan are their surnames. When Wei Wuxian falls, Lan Wangji calls out "Wei Ying!" which is his birth name. They have birth names and courtesy names in this setting, and you only use the birth name of people you are close to (or as an insult if you think they don't rate your respect). So that's what you heard.
