The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Great version of the song. I loved Ed Sullivan. I collect Lana albums. All the comments from the cheap seats don’t seem to grasp how far entertainment has fallen from the great era of singers who routinely covered good songs. I love different interpretations of songs. Of course you like the version you have heard literally thousands of times over the last 55 years.

I like and agree with your insightful perspective on songs being covered and how we tend to favour the version played over and over again. I too appreciate the era of artists releasing previously recorded songs…a rarity since the 60’s!

Helen Reddy was the first singer I heard singing this famous tune. It was on her debut album from '71. Funny that she and Lana were both from Australia. Wish they could have sung a duet together. As for Dusty's version....it was good. She was more like a white soul singer, to me, and I absolutely adore her singing 'Some of Your Lovin'. That particular tune just sends me. All of these ladies had something tremendous to give, and they gave 110%! We will probably never see or hear the likes of these women again, not unless there comes a revolution in music that pulls us away from the dismal and boring sludge that passes for entertainment today. "Thank you" for posting this rare find. From a life-long Lana fan...always a pleasure to see and hear.

Dusty Springfield did the best version on this, but I LOVE this girl’s voice in this song. Never heard of her. She is amazing. ❤

You never heard of her because she never had a hit record, a situation even she could never explain since she had so many fans. Dusty Spirngfield on the other hand had many many hits.

Interesting, a new video out I haven't seen by Ed Sullivan. I sure wish they'd find her doing My Way! So, my mother just got out of the hospital and LC sang My Way and she was hooked and so it began. We started following her, seeing every show 2 times every night for 2 weeks, over 21 clubs let me in before I turned 21, with the owner and her permission, took pictures, got autographs, she got wet coming down the stairs with her glass of water I asked for, seen dressing rooms, and the rest is history. My mother and I loved her and I sang and danced and imitated her. What memories this brings. Now, she, like most of us, have aged and I loathe her political views, don't love someone you REALLY don't know. As for these comments, how harsh. It's too bad they didn't see and HEAR her in person, as, even I think, this is not one of her best performances. But still better than anyone out there now. What times, now, we just have great videos that are, thankfully, shared. As for Dusty, she can't compare. Check out Lana's version of You Don't Have to Say You Love me, it's on Vimeo.

I haven't hear that in years!!! Although penned by Felix Cavaliere & Eddie Brigati, the Bacharat influences are unmistakable. Ms Cantrall has a set of pipes, but I really prefer The Young Rascals version.

That was still the era when a performer could command a stage without having a bunch of dancers cavorting around the stage. Lana decided to pursue a law career in part because a former manager had spent much of her earnings over the years and she wanted to protect other performers from similar experiences. Lana Cantrell is a lesbian, and actress Judy Carne claimed to have had a love affair with her.

Another guest who did not deserve a spot on a prime time show. Very average voice more suited to supper clubs. Even David Cassidy's version was better!
