A bit sad seeing people misinterpreting Fitzgerald's message. We are not intended to pick a side but rather understand both Daisy and Gatsby's situation to grasp what he's trying to tell us- materialism is a nasty yet infectious virus. Daisy was undoubtedly corrupted by the society and class she grew up in, while Gatsby only fantasized over the idea of Daisy as the 'golden girl', I don't think he truly loved her. In the end, none of them deserved each other and I think that's how Fitzgerald wanted to portray the effects of materialism.
@yoursugardaddyme71642 жыл бұрын
The only people who deserved each other are Nick and Gatsby ❤️

I'm sorry but he did love her. You've got to be one hell of a blind person to claim that in all his madness there was no love he had for her. May I add, I love how you minimised Daisy's flaws to simply being corrupted by society but attributed no flaws to her at all. You blamed society not her. Shame.
@hsablusay5299 Жыл бұрын
@@jnike5316 exactly. She knew she crashed into the girl & instead of owning up to her fault she decided to let Gatsby take the blame whilst her and her lying husband flee.

I like reading the story from the book. It’s more vivid, the movie can’t do justice to it. But I like the movie too with Leo as Jay and Carey as Daisy. They are both so perfect for the roles and so is the actor for Tom’s character. I heard the older version with Mia Farrow as Daisy was great. I’ve not seen it though.

Gatsby was so obsessed with Daisy and was doing illegal stuff.Daisy made the right choice, better choose the old money&home.And if you watched/read it thoroughly, you will know that Gatsby was not an innocent one at all.Daisy was a trophy, the last puzzle for him to complete himself as a nobleman (kind of).As you can see in the 'green light ' part, Gatsby felt like the one and only aim of his life is now forever gone, the green light is no more green light as it was.Daisy is not just a woman, nor is this book a simple love story. It's about the American dream and Daisy is the symbol of it. Daisy wanted to walk away and play with him as they did when they were younger. But Gatsby refused to do so , being full of ambition and wanted to go further. Remember the 'Tom, I can't stand it anymore!' scene? You cannot call this an innocent love. Since you guys think Daisy is a bitch and Gatsby is not.

I enjoy the kind of character Daisy is tbh. She doesn't explicitly WANT to do harm (Mind the 'want') yet she's a reprehensible character to the audience because of her simple-minded cowardice. I don't think I'd dub her evil to the extent others have, but rather the crushing burden of catering to everyone's wants has just left her an actionless husk that's incapable of choosing a side, paired along with using hedonism to distract herself from true reflection. First she has to play the wife of a homewrecking abusive husband, then there's Gatsby constantly trying to push onto her his dreams and urges her to drop everything for him, etc etc. That line about girls being beautiful little fools rings true for her. All she let herself be was a caricature woman for the demanding men in her life. Fitzgerald did an excellent spin on the 'golden girl' trope, I love these kind of characters where they're flawed but still real-since after all, we may all rebuke her but could we all really say in her position we would've been able to take that chance, ditch family and all stability and run off with some guy, or confess to our misdoings when someone else takes the blame? I think some may argue otherwise, but we know how people are; they're scared to take that leap

It has to do with one's moral character. I would not be able to live with myself knowing I had accidentally killed another life. On top of that, she had the money to get the best attorney, and it wasn't homicide due to lack of intentional murder but manslaughter. In fact, I would have believed she would have gotten off scott free. Lady jumped to the street out of nowhere, end of, here are witnesses.

Daisy was not heatless. Like she said, she loved Tom and she loved Gatsby. She was in love with Gatsby and after the war when he disappeared, she was heartbroken, she took him out of her heart, and married Tom. When Gatsby reappeared she had feelings again, but it was not the same, she was not the same person neither was him, she loved him before he became rich, now he had a sick obsession, scary episodes when things were not going into his fantasy ways. That is why she choses Tom, Tom was the most secure option, wasn't about love anymore for her, because Tom wasnt the ideal husband either.
@halleyangel17062 ай бұрын
But I argue she'll lose that supposed security. Historically, a lot of old money, remember this is the 20s. What happened immediately afterwards? The Great Depression that killed a lot of the old money that Tom Buccanon is a part of. And if the loss of a good amount of the access wouldn't ruin them, I argue the war would get Tom in the end. Now I'm not saying Gatsby and Daisy should get together, because let's be frank Daisy is way to passive and well weak for someone like Gatsby. And the point of the novel and the movie is he fell in love with a ideal version of Daisy that to be frank never existed. And that's what got him in the end. While I can see why you say she's not heartless she is without any will or want of her own because of her fear and showing in her cowardly actions. And no one like Daisy is actually ever happy they just like to complain why their unhappy.
@carlosRodriguez-vz3ho2 ай бұрын
She wasnt heartless and she had good qualities and overall I think she had a good heart but Jay deserved a lot better than her. She didnt even go to his funeral thats cold beyond believe. Her actions towards Jay shouldve been a lot better.
@halleyangel17062 ай бұрын
@carlosRodriguez-vz3ho She didn't care for Jay at all. I think she mostly got with Jay because Tom was screwing around on her for years why couldn't she? But the minute Tom promises her garabage and loosing her security she runs back to him. She's a coward a big one
