The whole album is a bit more deep than its pop-oriented production seems to be. I think it tells a lot about Lana's instrumental choices in her more recent albums.

this is why we recommend people listen in order, it throws people off and they think Lana’s putting on some kind of voice, when this is the sound and voice she started off with lol.

Off to the Races and Lolita as well as other lyrics on the album are wholly or partially inspired by the novel Lolita and I’m pretty sure the high pitch voice she uses is supposed to sound like a young girl

Fantastic album...however, I think Ultraviolence is still her magnum opus, followed by NFR. This was an incredible and fresh debut when it released. Bro...another phenomenal artist you should consider is Bat for Lashes.... 'Two Suns' was pretty much a perfect album.

This isn't actually her debut album as Lana! She released "Lizzy Grant AKA Lana Del Ray" in 2010 but wanted to start new so she took it off everywhere. I think that would also be a good album to react to:)

Hey man, if you want to check out a male artist that’s similar vibe to Lana, you should listen to Tamino.. he’s very underrated and doesn’t have many people reacting to his work. His voice is amazing. He has two albums so far but I’d recommend checking out the first one first, “Amir”. I’d love to see your reaction!

I find that the self-titled EP which preceded this album did a better job with organizing the first 4 tracks. It was… “Video Games” “Born to Die” “Blue Jeans” “Off to the Races” I was never big on “Off to to Races” until I heard it in that order, however, as far as the album version goes, there is something interesting to be said about the chronology. As they go from “Off to the Races” then to “Blue Jeans” and lastly “Video Games,” what actually happens is the album goes back in time to a more innocent point in her life, thus taking a more emotionally ambiguous approach to storytelling within an album.

I still love this album, but I get that it’s not really your taste for the most part. In some ways, it’s starting to show its age, but when it first came out it was revolutionary. At the time there was nothing that sounded like it, and it has been a major influence on pop music ever since. The fact that it’s still on the Billboard 200 after over 500 weeks (a full decade and counting!) is a testament to its sound and continued acclaim. You might like the Paradise EP more. The music and aesthetic were carried forward, but in a more mature and perhaps even darker tone. Also her vocals are more raspy as she was moving toward her Ultraviolence era.

This album is her signature sound and her most successful album and one of the most successful debut albums in history. I notice that you mention a few times that her voice sounds different and the production is faster/ different than usual when that’s what most thought when they heard ultraviolence 😭😹. It’s fine tho imo honeymoon, nfr, and chemtrails are my fav albums by her and honeymoon is her slowest so be prepared lol
