A new restoration of "Land and live in the Jungle" in HD is showing on my channel here:
• Jungle Survival Traini...
Five crewmen from a stricken B-25 bomber parachute into a dense tropical jungle, many miles from their nearest base. The dramatic story of how they make it out is fascinating and informative viewing. Four of the crew land together & get just about everything right. Rather than fighting the jungle, they learn to make use of its many resources. On the other hand, the planes pilot, Captain Harris, played by Academy Award winning actor Van Heflin, is separated from the others, panics and does just about everything wrong -- and pays a heavy price for his ignorance. From their examples, here's just some of what you'll learn: how to use your parachute for everything from making a hammock to catching fish - and more, avoiding large predators and snakes, treating scrapes & wounds to avoid jungle rot, plants and fruits to use and avoid for food and water, what fish and animals are safe to eat. using Halazone & Atabrine tablets to purify water and fight malaria, setting traps and snares to catch small animals and birds, dealing with and preventing insect bites, getting rid of leeches, setting up a jungle kitchen and preparing food, building and piloting a river raft, dealing with crocodiles, building temporary shelters and long term camps, using signal mirrors and fires to aid search planes, dealing Get this film full screen our DVD "Land and Live in Extreme Environments for World War 2 Airmen" bit.ly/2RzE5T9

I did basic training for army in 2005 and they do not educate the soldiers like this anymore. These videos so should still be used today.

i was just thinking that exact same thing to myself. there was a lot of knowledge that was either lost or not passed on properly when i was in from 2011-2017. videos with this style of production would easily improve readiness and training with a relatively minimal investment on the part of the DOD.

In any survival situation, not just jungle environments, in which you're required to walk (usually one is advised to sit down where you find yourself and wait for rescue, if at all possible), it is said that you're only as good as your feet. Without well cared-for feet, you have nothing.

I *love* these videos. The only thing I don't love about _this_ particular one is that it's pretty unrealistic. For one group, they follow their training and *everything* goes almost perfect. Obviously training is important, and experience, but there are *always* situations and problems you can't plan for or predict. It even says so three or four times in some of the other survival training videos in the series. But I still love it. Thanks Zeno! You rock! =)

They could mine and smelt ores, then with crude lathes and mills, to shape metals and develop a heat treating process. This will need the development of petroleum products to harden metals and propel engines. They then develop a large mineral mining process. With this technology they could build smaller aircraft, and caterpillars and transfer the jungle into an airport. At this time they will also develop a crop and animal raising program so everyone can eat healthy food. Near at this point they can develop the transistor, a monetary and health system. Then these five guys will become exhausted, however by now they have bred with native people and become a culture unto itself. By now they have developed robots that walk about nude and act like savages and don't allow outside people to communicate with the people who still live there. Who are really quit advanced. Or not.

one very important point he missed: NEVER cook dead shellfish or mollusks like shrimp, crayfish, oysters, mussels, etc. they go bad extremely quickly, and trust me--you do NOT wanna find out what happens 4-6 hours after eating bad shellfish. ok, i'll say it like the narrator: "make sure to cook only live shellfish and mollusks, because they spoil extremely fast--especially in jungle heat and humidity. dinner in the jungle might not be a fancy affair, but boy, you don't want to find out firsthand what happens to a man who's eaten bad shellfish."

You have to feel like these films are the only training our pilots really received. The film really isn't telling you how to survive in the jungle.
