And now, a "Land and Sea" episode called "My Highway The Sea" from 11/20/2006. Looking at a couple of people long associated with the days of the Coastal Boats.

Newfoundland is lost. Roads ended it. I remember. sad. It's the people like my granmother Alice Williams that can"t be replaced. i enjoyed the coastal boats.

In some ways the storm kinda saved the Kyle. Yea she's stuck in the sand, rusting away, falling apart and have seen better days. But, that all said, she's still there. You can still travel to Harbour Grace, look at her and relive old memories. Had she not been beached, or any any big enough ships was able to get close enough to her to free her. She likely wouldn't exist today. Kyle was already nearing the end of her service, and diesel was replacing stream. I think if the storm that beached her had never happened, that Kyle would of been towed to the ship breakers and scrapped years ago. She will eventually still disappear. But I think her beaching helped extend her existence. Otherwise she would not exist at all today.
