Nice one Alan! The comment about rod sensitivity is spot on. They love to just sit on the hook and even for stonkers the initial bite can be really subtle, to the point that you might think it's some little pest fish and then it's on! They love to run into structure, and the mussels on the rocks and pylons just slice through line. Another thing is the toothed plates on the top and bottom of their mouths can make it challenging to set the hook at times, and there's been more than one occasion where I've lost decent fish cause they've spat it out at the last minute.

Hi Alan, I'm a new Fishing Mad member and appreciate all the time that goes into your videos. Great to see you back at the Nong! Funny you mentioned the Perch as I was there last week and caught 13 fish. 3 Bream and the other 10 were Perch.

I think I've mentioned on another video of yours that I'm quite new, so these informative yet fun videos are bang on what I'm after! I've recently got a kayak and been binging your kayak videos. I finished just this morning the video of you looking for Kingfish in my home town of portland! gutted you missed em due to kayak troubles, but what great fun it looked like. thanks again!

Good to go back to the roots sometimes, I enjoyed watching this, thanks Alan. Those Arrowz Whiting Tip rods are way underrated, they actually perform better on the flats than some of the big-brand flats rods. We found it is one of the best rods out there to throw the 95mm Double Clutch for bigger flatties, which I beleive tells a lot about its capabilities 💪💪💪

Thanks Baz I appreciate the comment. Agreed going Back to Basics is great sometimes. That's really surprising about the Arrowz rod with 95mm double clutch I wouldn't have though to use it for that but very good to know. Thank you !!

Hi Alan, been watching your videos and they are great, being new into the hobby I'm taking my 3 boys fishing this weekend. I'm just wondering, and it might be a stupid question, but could that Burley cage be used as the bottom weight of a paternoster rig? Also what's your thoughts on Ferguson St pier, low tide and sunset nearly coincide Saturday so am going to get lines in the water about 2hrs before that happens, thanks mate.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
Yep 100% could use the berley cage as a bottom sinker too. Bream are really finicky at times so I do prefer it above so they feel no resistance when taking the bait but im sure it would work fine. Fergusron street pier should fish well to. I havent fished there for a little while and will give it a crack soon too. Plenty of bream and pinkies there usually.

@@fishingmad Hi Alan, no luck at Ferguson so heading down to stony point this weekend, I'm going to try a small burley cage on 1 rig, do you think it'll be better below the bait as a sinker or above the bait like you have it?

Hey mate I’ve been on your website and just saved about 60-70 fishing spots around Victoria that you had listed on there, thanks heaps. Narrowed it down to the nearest ones, and this Maribyrnong river is actually the closest, this will probably be my first spot to visit and my very first time fishing. Any advice of what specific gear to bring? I do have a full brand new set up from anaconda but I only have mono line for my entire rod, should I go grab some braid? as you said it allows better control and feel with soft plastics. And where abouts on the map is this bridge spot that you fished in the video, is there a few other nice spots to set up at? Cheers
@fishingmad
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
You may want to look into the FishingMad members area it has detailed guides on what gear to use for every local species and detailed workshops on how to target those species. Also has land based and kayak maps for spots to fish. If your fishing the Nong than you need a finesse rod something like 1-3 or 1-4 kg paired with a 1000/2000/25000 size reel and 4-8lb braid. Braid will help haps for casting. Use 1 rod length of 4 or 6 lb fluro and lightly weighted jig heads with plastics like 2.5 inch grubz. thats a great starting point.

Alan taking note of the water color what plastics do you recommend for the river ? Also do you have a good hook remover ? Or should i cut the line and leave hook in the fish
@fishingmad
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
I have a small hook remover which does a great job of removing small hooks, as I really hate seeing bream being gut hooked. Plastics its very hard to go past 2.5 inch grubs and 2.5 inch paddletails. Just mix up the colours for water clarity. Motor oil always a good starting point
