land based whiting fishing Night fishing for whiting from a jetty in Geelong not far from Cunningham pier and waterfront along Corio Bay part of Port Phillip Bay roughly 60 minutes drive from Melbourne. A strange night fishing session where we caught Whiting, Flathead, Pinkies, Eels, scorpion fish, puffer fish and more. A interesting location and an amazing ecosystem that comes to life at Night time

Love seeing the results of blokes fishing locally, rather than the celebrity fishermen on tv who are full of themselves. You'll get some monster gars from that pier too.

Thanks heaps Darren. Yeah i watch some of the fishing shows on TV. There often in the most exotic places, with there $200,000 boat and $10,000 sounder and $2,000 rod combo and then they suggest anyone can do this sort of stuff. So unrelatable. I think people enjoy many of our vids, because there spots that most people can drive to the next day, using basic and affordable gear anyone can buy. Appreciate the feedback, heaps of other local vids on the channel you might enjoy. ill head back there soon and give the gars a go.

Yeah, sure do love having a pier to yourself. There is plenty of piers and jetties in that immediate area so I tend to always go to the one that has no one around

I have caught eels off there before, not sure why they like it so much, also Pike frequent that area.
@fishingmad

Thanks Paul, yeah its bizarre. We were only there for 90 minutes and we caught 5 of them. A pike would be pretty cool though

Considering going down and giving this pier a crack, were you out casting to the left or right and out far or just in close? Around what time was this also?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 5 жыл бұрын
Good luck, this video was taken on Grand final eve at the end of September. We were casting straight out from all sides of the pier. Fish and eels all around the area

Nice video as usual.. quick one if you don’t mind, is it a must to use glowing sticks when night fishing? Is there any recommended tweaks for the rig?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ihab. This location was lit up quite well so we didn't need to use glow sticks or do any modifications to the rig. The lights went out a few times so we did miss some decent catches on camera. Other times when night fishing we have used light sticks and clip lights as good indicators of bites, even the bells where you can plug the night sticks into when land based fishing and its dark. Often will also take our own portable lighting just to make things a little easier.

About 6 months ago I caught this snake looking thing that I had never seen beforeand thought it was weird. I was at Newport and ended up with 3 short-fin eels. They absolutely destroy the rig and they are the toughest and craziest sea fish.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 5 жыл бұрын
They sure go crazy when you catch them, destroy your rigs completely. I havent seen them down at Newport, but at least we know what they are now. Thanks for the comments.

Is that called a sand whiting? Can you catch them on lures?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 5 жыл бұрын
Yep around that area you get sand whiting and king geroge whiting. Can be tough to catch on lures. Best bet is small surface poppers or worm style soft plastics like the old tutlreback worm. Great fun catching them on soft plastics but use a very light spin rod. 1-3 kilo or 2-4 kilo. Thanks
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah were all very healthy size. Biggest one that Mark caught was spot on 40cm. We caught quite a few others between 30 and 35cm

Get them damn eels from a few piers in western port as well, they love to wrap them self up with your line.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah there terrible to try and get of the line and hook. They shred your line to pieces and not much fun to handle

What is best bait for whiting in night and in morning
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 5 жыл бұрын
Time of day probably doesn't matter to much, when the whiting are biting they will generally happily take Pippis, squid, and worms.
