Great video! If you and your could do more videos together involving your cousins defender and your defender that would be really awesome. Thank you!!

I recently did an off road day with my new 110 on road tyres and it handled many muddy sections better than an old defender on mud tyres.

Have you tried this hill since the recent software update 2.0.10e? I have noticed quite a few improvements to my d250 90 with rear e diff but haven’t managed to test the DSC issue. I’m wondering if it might of fixed this problem..,

Traction control turns itself back on when you hit about 40kph or lose traction in low range and it simulates that speed from our testing, Landrover need to fix this, it shouldn't happen. Hi Range is fine.
@shedlock20003 жыл бұрын
That’s not the case, Ben, when it comes to High Range - it happened to me on Saturday several times in High Range. I’ve an upcoming video on it. The P400 has the habit of pulling the power then when you compensate with throttle it give you 4000rpm worth; when you back off to stop the spinning, the DSC cuts in again and your kangarooing all over the place!

Hi, are the duratrac quiet on road? I have a new 110 and the adventurer tyres just don’t cut the mustard. But don’t want to sound like I’m driving on a swarm of bees 🤣
@Longstride2 жыл бұрын
Yes they are really rather good on road! A little noise but not excessive! I’ve driven mine to Scotland and back from Hampshire around 6 times now! Wearing well. I get 29mpg on a run with them! Decent off road! The standard “off roads” are just a joke! I’d recommend duratracs

Question, I know the old Land Rover saying off road is "as slow as possible, buy as fast as necessary", but in some of these obstacles wouldn't the Jeremy Clarkson approach of "more power" give you the momentum to carry you past?
@Longstride3 жыл бұрын
I'm old school and I think in terms of momentum and grip. If you have limited grip, and in danger of losing traction, then you need momentum to carry you through just as you say! But there are other factor! The ground was soft, I could have taken air out of my tyres, the new defender is HEAVY! and the DSC even when off, still mucks about with power sometimes. By contrast my old series is lighter, has deflated tyres, no DSC to muck about with, and generally just gets on with a climb. Horses for courses I guess.

less right foot when getting winched out
@Longstride3 жыл бұрын
Actually I’d like some advice on towing with the new defender. I was giving it some right foot to take the strain off an old winch on the td5 but the nee defender also seems to lock wheels with brakes a bit as you’re being winched out. I’d love to know the right setting.
@ItchyFeetOz3 жыл бұрын
@@Longstride just leave it in low and idling, let the winch do the job. The constant bouncing and slipping puts more strain on the winch, and damages the trail for others.
@Longstride3 жыл бұрын
@@ItchyFeetOz thanks! I think you guys might have mistakenly thought I've never been winched out before :-) trust me I have! What I was finding was the new defender was applying auto-park/hill assist whatever you want to call it and preventing the winch. I only found much later afer a bit of searching in the iGuide that you can disable this by pressing brake, holding the manual parking leaver for a few seconds etc but its not obvious. So...... stuck as I was, I had to apply a bit of right foot to keep the wheels moving and the brakes off. Every day is a school day however! Live and learn!

Tires plus a little deflating could assist but i find it hard to believe that the terrain response didn't help you out of that🤔 given how dynamic the vehicle is🤔.
@Longstride3 жыл бұрын
Could have been the soil too I guess! I’m going to drive that same bit again in td5 and a series for comparison. It was rather steep. I think I need to go on the experience day with Landrover and learn how they work with the terrain response. It’s probably me not knowing.

Which model is better at off-roading, the Range Rover or the Defender? thanks!
@Longstride3 жыл бұрын
Tricky question! Ultimately it will be the defender but right now it’s so new I think some software tweaks are needed on terrain response and DSC from JLR. The Range Rover was also very capable Offroad but I think The defender will take the prize.

@Google Reviewer. From my experience with the New 110, it’s the rangy. The 110 isn’t well tuned at all for off-road use: all the settings are wrong and on the P400 it’s extremely poor (all power, no torque). I’ve owned many land rovers (47) and this 110 isn’t a patch on my old L322. See my video for a comparison: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iayjhrWbv8fSY30.html

@beaviccoon4703 жыл бұрын
Those wheels are a bit too big really, if you got the 18 inch wheels and aired down a bit and messed around with the settings more then you would've gotten better results and if it still won't get up then that's an unknown surface no land rover has ever climbed.
@smuy37823 жыл бұрын
I doubt you would have made it anyway. You had already lost all momentum and started digging a hole before the power was cut. And the way you kept your boot into it while being winched you should thank Land Rover that it stopped you from getting yourself even more stuck.
@shedlock20003 жыл бұрын
I think Glenn May have used a bit too much boot on the way out too - but my P400 is not able to move progressively. It’s impossible to maintain a steady rpm when in that sort of territory on the P400. It’s also impossible (and I mean actually impossible, not figuratively) to pick up your rpm to something like 1500 to help your vehicle warm up more quickly. The throttle peddle, when held constantly in one position, causes the engine rpm to increase slowly until it maxes out. I’m not saying this was Glenn’s issue, but it’s almost impossible to shift the vehicle progressively. I’ve an upcoming video to my channel (which culminated in a critical transmission fault) because the throttle is widely unpredictable off road (in that a set amount of pedal application results in varying degrees or rpm change and the DSC issue forces the driver to compensate with not response until there’s too much response). It’s not as simple as in something like the L322 or L462.

I think you would have gotten out if you had deflated your tyres to around 1.2-1.4 bar.

I’m not sure you are a muppet for leaving the DSC on (and you may very well not have). Mine pulls the power with DSC off as well. It seems like it’s a bit of an issue. Nearly had me in a river bottom - I’m trying to reach out to JLR to resolve it, as it didn’t happen on many of my other late model Land Rovers. It's a shame you blame the car because you forgot to turn DSC off. It's not "all the computers" fault that you missed a step. In the same way that it's not a Series LR's fault if you don't put it into 4wd. Operator error I'm afraid, nothing more, nothing less.
@jamesbilclough97283 жыл бұрын
