It’s awesome and looks brilliant. The “van” you buy to improve the image of your business. Like a “commercial” Mini. The steel wheels are charming. I’m just in love with the thing 😍❤️

@@vanaramauk no good for a gas engineer, or sparky. You’d never get anything in there and use it practically, I have a T6.1 4motion. Style, build, refinement, build quality, re sale value…….

Where I live I see a new LRD every time i drive. The 90 van in this colour is way the coolest. Driven by an old boy who had probably blown his golden handshake on it.

That jump seat is even cooler in the van, than it is in the standard Defender. Having an occasional 3rd seat is a bit of deal maker.

Tom here: Especially when you consider the back of the jump seat doubles up as a place to hold your drink AND connect multiple devices through USB-C and 12V sockets. Smashing.

The Defender has become what the original Range Rover was. It’s comfortable on and off road, you sit up high with great vision and you can use it almost anywhere. The new RR is more of a car now. Sitting lower and nested in its interior. Quite different to the original RR.

Nice review. Was the vehicle that you drove in this video fitted with an electronic air suspension or a coil suspension? I am curious about the ride quality of the coil suspension in the new Land Rover Defender and whether it is as comfortable as the electronic air suspension if not better.

Tom here: The commercial versions come with coils as standard. It was very good, measured and not too bouncy despite the bumps we took it over.

What is the payload capacity please? I mean how much load it can take including/excluding passengers please??

For the price though I would expect alloys as standard and a cover for that spare wheel.

All well & good, though does it have the life expectancy of the original, & easy to get parts & fix it, if your stuck in the outback??

The 90 commercial comes i think with coil springs, and with a diesel engine it should be pretty solid. The screen may have some... sneezes, but every car has these

Nothing had the life expectancy of the original, which can last pretty much indefinitely

I am a big fan of the short wheelbase commercial Landcruiser 150 (prado in some markets) I am on my 3rd now and have been in Landcruisers continuously since 2006. The new defender comes closer to tempting me away than anything ever but I would never consider a 90. It would have to be the 110. As much as I like short wheelbase jeeps that is just too small. I doubt if you could even fit a bicycle in the back of that. Also steel wheels and no cover for the spare wheel?? I get lovely alloys on my Landcruiser and a neat cover for the spare wheel as standard. Also that window frame on the rear door looks super flimsy. I would wonder how that will hold up after a few years of closing impacts.

I don’t think that’s quite correct regarding commercials having to carry 1000kg , I think that only applies if they have an additional row of seats, then to be classed as a commercial they do indeed have to carry 10000kg. That’s why the ranger raptor (650kg)is not a commercial, but the ranger wildtrak (>1000kg) is.

Hi Nigel, I was wondering the same, really have my eye on one of these to replace my Amarok but was gutted when he mentioned the payload! So if what you say is correct, minus the rear seats we should still be fine as a commercial?

@@bearlabrador2018 The Defender Hardtop is a commercial vehicle as far as BIK, I've checked as I have one on order(expected mid July). At this time not listed on the HMRC web site as a commercial but I'm sure that's only due to being a relatively new model. The Discovery 2 seater is listed. Also a big indicator is that the Hard Top doesn't qualify for the luxury car road Tax (£2k if it did). It's a fixed rate road tax, same as my currant ranger. How ever even though the Rapter is not a commercial as far as BIK, I have been told that somehow that has also escaped the £2k luxury car tax.

@@nigelhill7105 Tom here: Good spot, both of you. It wasn't on the HMRC list so didn't want to say it was. However, to the strictest letter of the regs on car-derived commercial vehicles, it probably is fine to assume it is one. :)

I'm sure it will be on the hook more then on the road. They look great but it will have very little reliability just like other Land Rover.

The kind of person who says this is the kind of person who buys a secondhand car that was expensive when new, and tries to run it on a shoestring. I put well over 100k miles on my old disco 4, and currently almost 20k on my new defender. Zero problems, because I get them serviced properly.

The thing is, the Defender will carry you across that ploughed field and up that hill the other side without flinching, the Toyota will have done one of two things, rusted away or got stuck......or both, before it gets to the scarecrow in the middle of that field......honest, professional, classless, timeless, fashionable, brilliant on and off road, I think they've nailed it with the new Defender.

Tom here: Yeah, it looks amazing. I remember being ferried about by a friend's Mum in her classic Land Rover Defender in heritage blue and white. It never ever ever broke down.
