Another example of how landings for student pilot's are not easy in the beginning of training. During landing there are so many things to think about, including flying the traffic pattern, looking for traffic, talking to air traffic control and maintaining airspeeds to name but a few. It takes time to learn a technique, but Mike has made a good start here!

To me the landings are like a golf swing, sometimes you get the perfect one, and then next one less perfect. So you practice, try to do everything right, get everything better in the muscle memory and focus on the ball.

Mr LewDix, I think I want to be you! After a lifetime of dreaming about flying, I decided it was now or never. According to the Gregorian calendar, I'm currently 5 decades plus 5 years old, and just started flight training in Fort Myers, FL with a total 7.3 hrs of flight time so far. My goal with this flying stuff is to do more than just wipe the grease off of my face from the once a month $250 hamburger, but instead to keep my wings flapping as a happy-go-lucky CFI like you or maybe even charter people to their dream vacations in the Caribbean... man. I'm so grateful that I came across you and your channel. You've opened my eyes to how aviation can be fun and not so serious, which is how I've always I needed to approach it. You're super inspirational and delightfully entertaining, and after watching your high-end production about the 3 different instructors, I think you have a sitcom in your future. That was about the funniest thing I've ever seen; next to Monty Python of course. Thanks for being you and offering such valuable first-hand aviation content to us newbies:) Welcome to the sky

MrPielover61 in the uk, you have to be 16 before you can do a solo and you need 8 hours of solo. So that’s what I based it off and also trying to save money as well by getting it done in a shorter period of time without forgetting anything.

a good tip that I learned from my instructor for when you come in for a landing is. When you turn final, add the spins on the trim wheel to make it easier to flare when you come in. Amazing tip that i learnt and all my landings are smooth because of it

To be honest my flight instructor also told me to cut the power when reaching 200ft then to glide and land. I normally do not listen to that instruction, I just cut the power at 100ft below and glide to land. My landings were much smoother and easier. My flight instructor was impressed and did not need to guide me on my landings for traffic patterns further.

I don’t teach that. Airspeed control until low enough to go power off and hold the nose up to the end of the runway.

Please tell me if right or wrong. Pipers would require more on holding on the power for a softer touch down. My impression is that the student is reducing too much on the power. Easy said looking from the outside. Hope you make a comment. Thanks. PS. Sorry for your "F" situation.

I don’t think so. I always land the Cherokee at idle. There’s more of a case for landing the C182 with some power in, but you don’t really need it. Just trim back and keep the nose up.
