Putting this out for two reasons.. as a reference for anyone else thinking of landing there, this will show what is involved, and also as a little preview video to my full Utah adventure that is ~28min and will be uploaded on Monday hopefully. (Soon). Poison Spring is rated as the most hazardous / difficult strip in Utah. My thoughts are that you need fairly large tires and landing gear that can take the rough / roller coaster section through the middle. If you can land fairly slow/short, and have the right gear, it's not too big of a deal. Large/fast airplanes are gong to have a real hard time maneuvering the tight canyon wall and getting stopped without damaging the gear. Depending on the plane, this can go from not too bad - to straight up broken! Thanks for watching... the full video is coming together really well, excited to get it posted soon!

I'd say "Airstrip" is a very generous name for it.

Just across the Dirty Devil River from the SW entrance "road" to The Maze section of Canyon Lands National Park...Desolate country indeed, one has to appreciate those characters that carved out the few "roads" into and through this region...

Dude, this is awesome. I've never seen anyone do anything like this. I've spent time traveling around these areas by motorcycle and can't imagine running into an airplane so far out!

Wow I didn't think of doing a low pass to check it out first. You can never be too safe! Thats why I'm not a pilot hahaha

Crazy approach. I’d have probably stayed a little higher then slipped her on in, but that’s me. I dinged an aircraft once and vowed never to do that again.

It's cool location the rock wall would be nice to climb, though, at the foot of those rock formations are loose dirt blown in by high winds and erosion from rain storms. Could waist a day of energy trying to climb up 100 feet on that loose gravel. Had tried in different locations Thanks for sharing 👦🏻👍🏻🛩✈

Looks rough as guts - even on Google Earth - good job, and a useful flyer's guide! Hope you didn't drink the water...

Hey Professor... I hope things are going well for you down under. If things get too rough, come on up and visit for a while.

@@JSBIRD69 Good to hear from you JS! Haven't seen you in the comments for a while, so I hope all goes well. It's so remote here in the Northern Territory, that this Covid thing hasn't even started to kick off, so we'll probably get hit when the rest of the world is over it, but right now life is just fine! I would LOVE to swing out Calhan way, I'd like to spend a w/e filming Todd through a long lens from the ground (haven't told him yet,) it must be pretty tedious landing, setting up a camera, and doing it all over again! I've seen a very interesting Chinook Plus2 for sale in Ohio (if they're good enough for Dan Reynolds they're good enough for me,) but our borders are closed, and he wants cash - tricky! But never mind all that, the real reason I've got to get over to Calhan is to meet your sisters, I can think of little else...

That looked epic. Looks like a tight approach even footage from action cams. You must have good brakes and skill seemed to pull up quick.

Definitely not for the faint hearted, that's for sure, but great views around that canyon, and those big lumps of rock on the approach were fairly substantial.

I’m sure it looks completely different to your eye then it does from a go pro or other wide-angle camera but that approach looked pretty tight into that canyon wall. It looked like you were feeling pretty casual about it but I was getting ready to actually speak up to KZfaq while watching it saying “turn, turn Darnit turn!”. Ha ha! Great video as usual sir!, you just keep getting better and better. BTW: the color and the resolution looked absolutely fantastic from the tail wheel camera today. Always good but looking better than usual. New camera?
