Very true. and also it's one investment which once you are through with the building, becomes less involving. Apart from minor repairs which only comes once in a blue moon, it doesn't require so much hassle. Just counting days and going for your returns. Even in an event that you get physically incapacitated, or aged, you can still manage it quite easily. It's also one investment that goes down generations even in our society where offsprings are never good at management of inherited wealth.

I do not think Njoro reckons investing in real estate is a waste of time. I think he is alluding to the fact that it isn't as lucrative as it looks. For him to get back what he sunk or what is known as return on investment takes a while. So he says the beneficiaries tend to be the next generation. Not to mention the problems involved with collecting rent and the usual damages that are done to the house. Compare that with a Treasury Bond that has a fixed rate of return and has absolutely no risk....well unless the government collapses. Things are different when experienced first hand...like a Maasai tenant pouring hot tea on your face :-(.
