My wife purchased me one for my birthday in June that had been hanging in our local guitar shop since 2019. She noticed it within the first week or two of it being hung up and Id check it out every time we went in there. It was the penny color that they no longer make and it was my first Fender and first Telecaster. I absolutely love it. In truth it was your channel that made me want to get a Telecaster because they never had any appeal to me before. Well that and the fact that the color caught my wife's eye 3 years ago. Having the wife like it always helps.

Now you can play pre-beatles music with it. You can't play jimi Hendrix with it. You won't be able to do what I do on a guitar. You're now limited with what you can do. You're not actually allowed to introduce yourself to me.

My 2019 Performer Strat is in the Penny finish as well. Look like the tint changes in different light? Like sometimes mine will look more gold than copper, or sometimes an almost rose color. Ever notice similar? I love the color.

LANDON! You gotta try out a Yamaha rse20!! I promised myself no more guitars for the rest of the year and I played one of the aforementioned and.. IMHO it's the sweetest budget model guitar I've ever played. Of course I bought it. The guitar seems exceptionally well made for a current US model, with real care being evident in the details. Those Yosemite pups have a very pure, "hi-fi" sound to them, which is great if that's what you're after from a Tele. I'd actually like to to hear them in a "Thinline"... (Also: Good to see Gibson made something without QC issues lol)

I had the worst Qc issue of my life with Gibson. I bought a Gibson lp standard 2014 model used a year ago and at first glance it was perfect. The guy I bought it from was kind off reluctant letting me try it out tho. I shrugged it off because it was late evening and he lived in an apartment. However the guitar seemed unplayed and worked fine a couple of months until it just stopped working altogether. Turns out it shortwired itself because Gibson forgot to tape the wires leading to the output jack. They were completely tangled and busted so I had to untangle them and lead them back together. Now it works perfectly but that wire should never have left the factory.

I live in a very small studio apartment, so buying a guitar without a hardcase is my preference these days. One is all in need atm, and good quality gigbags. I like these more affordable options, so I can have 2 or 3 for the price of one (as long as they're good quality). I don't need to show off like I used to.

I bought a new American Performer Telecaster in Sonic Satin Blue back in 2019. I adore this guitar. It has a great tonal palette, it's effortless to play, and as Landon points out, its simple yet meticulous design harkens back to everything a Telecaster should be. So here is what I don't get: why is it that in virtually every KZfaq discussion on what line of Fender to buy, the Player and Player Plus series are compared to the American Pro II and Ultra with the American Performer glaringly ignored? It's as if it barely exists on anyone's radar. I'd really like to see it more in the conversation. Thanks for the great review, Landon.

I have an the predecessor of the Performer series, the American Special Tele, and it is awesome! The fingerboard feels as if the edges are rolled and you just can’t beat the sound. Very underrated. Has everything you need and nothing you don’t. For the minuscule difference in the money I’d rather have a Performer or American Special over any of the Mexican stuff because Player, Player Plus, Vintera, and Roadworns are no longer the bargains that they used to be.

I bought the performer strat body and neck from stratosphereparts (using the serial number look up tool to match a neck to the correct color body) as my first some-assembly-required guitar. The strat has the larger 70's headstock which, frankly, I'm not in love with, but everything else is great. I went with the satin lake placid blue finish which, along with the headstock, adds a bit more individual character to what would otherwise be a pretty standard, no-frills guitar.

Till I dropped by our weekly neighbor jam and a buddy brought his G&L semi hollow ASAT fitted with G&L's version of P90s (neck and bridge). The owner kindly let me play it. And and I still have a smile on my face. So in closing I still plan on the buying the player telecaster. But looking for an ASAT Special on the used market👍

Love my Performer Jazzmaster. I'm addicted to palming floating trems, so when they announced it, I jumped. It is my #1 daily player for more than a year now, and from the first time I plugged it in, I was magic-carpeted back to the definitive sounds of my youth with the Ventures and Beach Boys. I did wish for more color options, mine is vintage white (really yellow), but my PRS Tremonti is up for sale and my Casino and Nitefly don't get played much.

Nice review! I bought three telecasters this year...a CV 50s, performer telecaster... same color, and a professional II in dark night. I liked them all... but for some reason I gravitated towards the warm fat tones of the performer. I play mostly clean and I've never played a better sounding clean guitar. It almost doesn't sound like a telecaster... because the tone is so full and warm... which I actually think is a good thing. I didn't care as much for the professional II clean tone but the professional II guitar is extremely well made and he has the push push. But for $50 I bought a freeway switch for my performer that gave me the same extra tone as three push push but even two more tones. I bought all three of mine used. My performer and professional II both come with hard cases... but professional II was about $400 more. Considering my performer had hard case and freeway switch installed I wasn't getting any more value out of the professional other than a fatter neck which I don't care either way ... since both the professional II and performer necks are outstanding... just comes tone to preference, tone and color your prefer. I like them all really but sold my professional II. I don't think either one is better than the other... just preference. You get a hard case with the professional II and push push...if you need it. Otherwise for $50 but a freeway switch for the performer and get even more tones than the professional II. Again I absolutely love the clean tone of the performer which I don't think can be beat.

Thanks, Landon. They did a very decent job on matching the two piece body on this Tele. I've noted that often isn't the case with Fender today. All too many natural wood finished bodies from them have poorly matched halves, or thirds. It just looks odd, in fact cheap, and would put me off buying those particular guitars.

I bought a performer tele in vintage white a couple of months ago and it is a superb instrument. Since buying it I have not played none of my other guitars. You can get so many different tones from a tele. I wish they would have given this current model the nitro finish like fender did with the highway one series they had a few years back, I think they were spec out the same except for pickups I believe those had Texas specials. Nice ax, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra $800.00 compared to what it would cost to buy a poplar bodied Affinity series Squire and upgrade it with a set of $120 Yosemite's. Hey Landon, I had a Performer Strat which I recently just sold to a friend, great guitar and it was actually one of the sandblasted versions which were a Sweetwater exclusive. The grease bucket circuit is very cool and in certain positions on a Strat it allows you to be able to have all three pickups on at once too. The few differences between this model and a pro are of course this grease bucket circuit which we both mentioned, the headstock on the Performer isn't glossed over like a pro either ( ya... big deal lol ). Aside from the guitar case the only other two differences are the Yosemity pickups ( which I personally like - I even threw a set of them into a one piece swamp ash Tele body I purchased via Warmoth and for a $40.00 upcharge I even had it come in an ultra light body which is very well worth it imo. The body was 3 pounds 3 ounces which is beautiful 👍). Lastly the pro series comes with their Deep C neck which is a bit more chunky as opposed to this one which of course is the modern C. The Performer is without a doubt a great option if you're looking to save a few bucks when shopping for an American made Tele - Strat. The color yours came in is beautiful too man, since I saw you restringing it with the original strings I'm assuming you're either sending it back or just selling it, Either way, I'm sure it won't be too easy since it's such a nice guitar haha! Cool video / demo / review - whatever you want to call it :) Thanks, Tommy ~
@TommySG1
@TommySG1 2 жыл бұрын
PS ~ It's a shame that Swamp Ash is getting harder and harder to come by because of those insects which are killing them all, it's a much nicer grained wood compared to Alder. Some folks will say Alder gives the guitar a darker tone and Ash being more of a trebly sound regarding tone although I honestly don't get into all the hype on tonewoods and solid body guitars personally. The difference is of course far more significant on an acoustic. However I'll go with Swamp Ash everyday of the week on any translucent finish and twice on Sunday just for the beautiful grain 👌 That's most probably why I stopped buying new Fenders and simply go with my own build via Warmoth now, and if you can paint pretty good it's MUCH cheaper and then you can also do a Nitro finish instead of poly ( Like a Gibson guitar which is much thinner an nicer imo ). Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on the Performer.

If you go back to the Fender American Standard of around 2010 - today's equivalent of those guitars is the Player series - yes the Mexican made guitars have improved that much, and the American Professional line has greatly improved over the former American Standard line. The Performer sits above the Player series and is as you described basically as good as a Pro but without the frills. I don't like gig bags, so when I bought mine I let the store keep it and got a further $50 off the price.

It's a shame that the general public guitarists have no clue what they're doing. All this stuff is being sold to idiots. This video maker can't even get that guitar to work. It's not even distortion. It's not even fuzz. It's a nasty horrible sound. Its the sound of broken components. Yuck! You can't even follow instructions. Fender guitar into Fender cables into Fender pedals into more Fender cables into Fender amplifiers. Simple rules but you refuse to follow. You think you're sonic Picasso. You're actually a silly person who got sold products you can't get to work.

Amazing video as always! Are you sure sure about the neck thickness figures? Your measurement shows 22.84mm (.8995") at the first fret and 22.54mm (.8875") at the 12th fret! Is the neck really thicker toward the nut, because that would be weird! PS. The faux cocked wah sound you are getting in the middle position with the tone rolled off is a blessed thing indeed...

That is the same model & colour I bought as my 1st US Fender Tele. A bit of a pre semi retirement gift to myself. Had it for 2 years. I tried to love it, played it until the satin neck was shiny. It spent most of it's time hanging on the wall. I would just always grab another guitar, mostly Les Pauls or my 335. In the end I traded it for an inspired by Gibson, Epiphone 335 in iced tea burst with the figured top & back. You could argue that I was a couple of hundred £ out of pocket, but the 335 is awesome, sounds better, more versatile, does Tele sounds better than the Tele did & gets played. I hope the person that got my Tele loves it, it just did nothing for me.

Considered these when I got my tele, but opted to go the whole hog and got an Am Pro II. It's a nice burst (it actually looks lot nicer in your video than in Fender's still images, though I still prefer the siena sunburst I got), but I do not like the black pickguard. I think parchment would look so much nicer. Rosewood fingerboard looks very nice. Not a fan of jumbo frets myself and very happy with the narrow, tall they have on the Am Pro II. As for colours, I do like the sonic blue and vintage white they offer. Penny seems weird to me. But I see your point that there isn't a great deal of choice.

Idk what to choose, yahama or the positive spark grid. I'm new to electric guitar addiction after transitioning from classical acoustic guitars.

I think because all of the parts (bridge, tuners, etc) weren't "made" in the USA, they were only "assembled" in the USA. So they can't say made in the USA.

Hey Landon. Great video as usual. I have an Am Pro 2 Strat, bought a few months ago. Thinking of getting the Tele. Do they have the same exact pickups (v-mod)? Should I consider a different model Tele to have some variety in tone? If the pickups are the same, my Strat has the neck, pickup, and both (using the push push) that the Tele would have. Would a MIM Player be a good choice? Thanks!
@landonbailey

Fender USA guitars cannot claim Made in USA unless they are fully made and assembled in the USA, so there is something on there that the cheaped out on and got Mexico or Japan to do, or outsourced the wood, or someone else made makes the pickup set. But good man for oiling that dry neck before restringing. Only have seen Gibson necks dryer upon purchasing

I have a performer neck on my Thinline tele but with a maple fingerboard. I love it and I love the jumbo frets. One con-I wish it had a glossed headstock. The satin headstock looks a bit cheap. Otherwise it’s perfect. I did swap the nut out for a bone one too.

@@landonbailey depends on the guitar but it’s not too hard for Fender style guitars.
