I think it was already mentioned by someone else, but in the military we used both eyes open with PVS 14s. Personally, I liked the PVS 14s. Ive done night operations with them, ive gotten into gun fights with them, and personally I think they're a solid system to run. You dont flip them up and down through out the night. Once that sun goes down, my PVS 14s went on and they didnt come off until the sun came up. I have tried the duals once, one of the SF guys I was working with let me use them to drive back to our COP and I was AMAZED how they were when driving. night and day difference. But for moving and shooting on foot, 14s definitely do the job well.

Hi Bud, good video. Please don't take this a as a negative criticism as I'm genuinely trying to help just in case you don't already know. You mention keeping your eye shut whilst using a pvs-14, the idea is that you keep both eyes open so you get an overlay effect similar to the effect you get with a red dot when shooting 2 eyes open. You will find that this gives you far more spacial awareness when not totally pitch black meaning that you don't get as tunnel visioned and also reduces eye strain. It takes a bit of getting used to but its worth it. All the best.
@landrun89

+NEALWILLINGS No, I will definetely try again. My eyes are bad though that might be why I have trouble with the 14. It must just be my eyes I have been using my 14 for like 8 years and have had alot of guys say what you are saying. It just makes me sick almost to do that. I do notice on brighter nights i can do it easily. On the darker nights it just, gives me a headache. there is a way to use a red dot like you are talking. you look through the red dot with one eye and your pvs14 with the other and they blend, it is for using none night vision compatable red dots.

Keep in mind roughly 15% of the population simply cannot get use to one eye operation. It's not a negative it's just something your brain doesn't want to do. No amount of training will overcome it. I'm with you. I don't have this condition but I prefer 7's and dual tubes. I use a single 14 only when I'm forced to.

Army 11B active duty. I had a much better time going back and using PVS-7's than I did with PVS-14's. Granted I get issued 14's with the standard green phosphorus tube, and my civilian NOD's are 7's with a white phosphorus tube. While using 14's I always have a headache on patrol. There were a couple of night ranges and shit that I got to use my 7's and I didn't have as difficult of a time. The only huge difference is eye strain and size. PVS-7's are generally cheaper, have less eye strain, but they are larger and harder to store in a small pouch. PVS-14's are generally more expensive tubes, have more eye strain (due to the brain having to split the image instead of the device), however they are definitely easier to store. I sadly have no experience with ANVIS 6/9 goggles or ANVIS 10/18 GPNVG. Best advice I could give while using NODs is to tie them down with 550 Cord (Paracord) and clip them to your helmet (or mount if you use a skull lock mount) via S-clip / caribiner. You can also clip them to the rig or bag you have them in for storage so you dont lose a multi-thousand dollar device. Also buy a good mount like a Wilcox or Norotos. They will run you money, but if you're already spending upwards of $3,500+, why not pay $100-150 for a good mount and base plate?

I have driven with all three sets for 9 years or so I just like the 7s better for driving,I love the 14s too dont get me wrong! When it is extremely dark it seems to me the 14s get very hard to drive with, you can light up your way with IR but you cant see with the other eye because it is to dark, whereas with the 7s you light both eyes with the IR. We are also driving in rough fields/pastures, not on roads so safety comes into it as well. I am not saying you cannot drive with the 14s I did for a few years. I am just saying it is easier/safer with the 7s or for sure the anvis. The 7s have their drawbacks too, You have to mount your red dots extremely high for them to work well, There are tons of little differences between all three sets, like you said train with them and you can get good at doing whatever you want to with each set.

I agree with everyone else on the 14s. They arnt as good as something like duel or quad tubes but they are lightyears better than 7s. Why? Depth perception. If I am not going to have it I at least want to have peripheral vision like with the 14s. I uses 14s limited during the war because I hadnt trained with them. Since then I have used a variety of monos. The trick is to no focus on whats in the tube when you are moving but to remember everything is the same it is just dark. So the next step after that is binos. If you are going to spend a grand on 7s you might as well buy a set of 3d fat shark goggles, a 3d IR camera, and run with that. You would be better served in most situations. That being said digital night vision is available NOW. You cant buy it and the government will not buy it because they are so in bed with ITT and these other companies pedaling technology they are desperately holding on to from 30 years ago. Back in 2010 electron bombarded CMOS cameras were close but then they went away after being bought out and buried just like the oil industry did with solar shingles 10 years ago. You can put two, four, six, eight, or a millions CMOS sensors on a night vision device. Then use the same technology all of these companies are marketing for VR and get much better night vision.
@savethebee8561

What do you mean 3D fat shark goggles and a 3d infared camara? Does that mount onto a pistol or rifle? Don't you still have to mount a IR illuminator as well?
@ivan____________________973
@ivan____________________973 5 жыл бұрын
@@savethebee8561 I think i can explain, 3d fat shark goggles project a image you can look at, the image can be processed trough N sensors, be that CMOS or any kind of IR sensors. You can use any kind of a board to process images, the "light 16" camera for example uses 10 sensors to create one image, what you can do, is take 10 CMOS high ISO sensors and link them to your 3d goggles that will give you high quality image of what your surroundings look like, even during the night. But for now it has a huge drawback, which is image processing, when you look around, that image goes trough the processor that patches multiple images into one that looks a lot better than any one single sensor could get, and that takes time, so when you look left/right, or move fast, you notice the delay between you moving and the image you recieve. And that is a problem because if you are moving fast, that means its probably because you're in a stressfull situation and you NEED to move fast, and in that situation the goggles with a delay could very easily lead to a accident, which is why people for now avoid it, untill someday processors will be fast enough to process multiple images to make the delay insignificant.

I feel the need to point out that driving without depth perception is a very bad idea. PVS-7s physically cannot allow you to have depth perception while a monocular like the 14 does allow for depth perception. PVS-14s are beyond superior to drive with than a 7. They are in fact superior to do anything with than a 7 lol

You're not limited with the PVS-14. Not if your run two of them at once. Better than a PVS-7. You can set them up like the more expensive goggles, and get better depth perception than you could with a PVS-7. It's not cheap, but cheaper than the googles.

sailure1 I would recommend BNVD Mod 3’s. They are binos but they come with two separate power supplies so you can dismantle them and use them as a monocular within a few minutes. That way if you have a buddy that wants to do night vision things with or take your girlfriend/wife star gazing. You could also have one on your head and one on your rifle behind an optic. Dual PVS-14’s have their pros and cons but Mod 3’s are far superior, in my humble opinion. I currently run a single PVS-14 (Gen. 3, autogated, manual gain) with a full power PEQ-15 and Aimpoint on my rifle and a Streamlight TLR-2 on my Gen. 5 Glock 19. If you can afford Mod. 3’s, go that route. Especially if you can afford ones with White Phosphor filmless tubes. If you’re interested in buying a set, my buddy has a set of Mod 3’s that have tan/FDE housings as well as Photonis Intens 4G thin-filmed white phosphor image intensifiers in them for $5,500 shipped. They also include a two year warranty from his company that specialized in retail sales and repairs of NVG’s. Be careful who you buy from, as well. Will’s Optics (bigger retailer in terms of NVG’s) have been ripping people off left and right. Two different people in particular spend $7,000+ on binos that were supposed to be top-of-the-line Gen. 3 white phosphor units and they ended up selling them sets that had Russian Gen. 2 white phosphor tubes inside them. They did it knowingly as they had the guys pay them in full and had a couple/few weeks “lead time” to build the units. However, Glynn Sziraki (owner of Night Vision Inc) is the most trustworthy guy in the industry to my knowledge. He’s also the guy with the Mod 3’s I told you about. Anyway, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. That’s what I’m here for. P.S. Sorry for the ridiculously long comment but I hope it helps.

Very hard to explain. Muzzle flash is no big deal with mine unless it is really dark then it gets noticeable. I use a can though so no big deal to me for sure even a good muzzle device will help. Looking at a town from a mile away when the moon is really bright is not a deal breaker. Driving through the vegas strip no dice. It has alot to do with ambient lighting,man made light and distance from it. Too much white light will green out even the best tubes available. It is also hard on the tubes to shine a light directly at them. I have a no flashlight rule in the truck. you click on a high powered led inside the cab everyone greens out and very good way to ruin your tubes.

How is someone whos got access to all these so clueless... I dont think given a choice i'd ever pick pvs-7 over pvs-14. You use them with both eyes open and of your eyes get tired flip then over to the other side for a bit (if your mount allows for it) You dont keep flipping them up and down. They stay on all night. In fact pvs-14s have the advantage over bith pvs7 and dual tubes in that one of your eyes is adjusted to the natural light, so if you go into a brighter area you can actually see more with your unassisted eye than you could wearing pvs7s. Ive drove for hours with pvs 14... you need to do more research man... and 7 Deltas suck... zero depth perception what so ever.

Have used them both for years, I have hundreds of hours of use behind both set ups. I have a great tube in my 7'S and have no issues with depth perception at all when they are properly fitted and focused. The 14s have a better tube, but they suck when it gets super dark no ambient lighting. I like them all don't get me wrong, it has been my experience though that wearing both pair for 3 or 4 hours I have less eye strain/headaches with the7's. Every person I have ever hunted with has agreed that they prefer the 7's over the 14s. I don't know how much more research I could do, I guide hunts with them every week and have done so for the last 8 years.

Tristan Martinez walking in pvs 7s is hard, driving with them not bad at all. I prefer driving with the 7s over the 14s. especially when it is very dark.

on a bright night it doesn't matter 14s are great. I own both sets both are top tier and have for 8 years. I have hundreds of hours of driving with both. I guide hog hunts every weekend, every person that has gone with me prefers the 7s while driving over using the 14s. Not saying you can't use 14s just saying, I will keep my 7s, for driving.

I was tempted to reply with bullshit but as I grow older I'm trying to be more calm. Lol. What people need to realize is everyone is different. I have gen three 7's. Then I got dual 14's. I expected to see a huge improvement with depth perception even though I never really had an issue with the 7's. Now maybe my eyes are retarded but I didn't notice a shit bit of difference. My wallet was a lot lighter though. But I'm keeping with rule number one and I look really cool and that's all that matters. - Garand Thumb approved.

There’s an arm that screws onto the 14, bend it until it pops then it stays flexible to adjust to your eye

No one in America should be buying PVS-7. It's made for export purposes.

What makes you say this, I see thousands of sets for salel all over the U.S. new and used! Just wondering where you got that information. Are you in another country, Maybe it has to do with if they are military contract or not. I bought mine used from a government liquidation sale. They were used but I do not think they were military. Interested in hearing your reasoning on why.

Giao Nguyen Your comment was "No one in America should be buying PVS-7. It's made for export purposes." ITAR restricts export from US, or other ITAR Signatories, to restricted countries. However US citizens can purchase any/all of these ITAR restricted items, thus anyone in the US sure as heck can buy these things.
