Landscape artist Lindsay Sword talks to Julia Stockwell-Hamid @juliastockwell-hamid1812 at the Guildford Arts Summer Exhibition 2024@GuildfordArtsVideo held at The Mill Studios, @YvonneArnaudTheatre #guildford #Surrey Many thanks to the sponsors of this years event Guildford Financial, Framing Castle, @seawhiteofbrighton7217 and George Weil
Lindsay is a retired GP with a lifelong interest in art who began painting in 2007 which gave her an outlet far removed from the rigours of general practice. She attended weekly classes, led by a local artist, which broadened her awareness of art’s possibilities, and initially she worked mainly in watercolours.
Post retirement, in 2016, she spent a year by the ocean on the South Island of New Zealand where she was introduced, by two inspiring Christchurch artists, to acrylics which suited the vivid and stunning landscapes of the Island.
She is inspired by the beauty of nature, near and far, and enjoys the feeling of complete absorption that painting gives her. There is a feeling of contentment and achievement when a painting is finished, and she feels that she has succeeded in capturing a special moment in time on the canvas.
Julia Stockwell-Hamid is a fine artist, silversmith and arts interviewer whose multifaceted career in the creative industries has shaped her unique perspective. From gracing the stage as a trained dancer and choreographer to mastering the art of horticulture on a sprawling 53-acre estate in Chester, Julia's journey is a testament to her boundless passion for the arts. Her interviewing prowess was first honed in Tanzania during the East Africa Biennale, where she began capturing the voices of artists with her relaxed and engaging style. Now back in the UK, Julia continues to champion artists, bringing their stories to life with her easy, conversational interview technique, making her a cherished figure in the artistic community.
