In this video I take the maiden voyage on my 2024 KTM 300 XC-W. I cover my likes, dislikes, and convey some of my initial impressions. The bike is completely stock. I haven't even touched the clickers or the sag yet. I'm pretty impressed overall and can't wait to race this enduro bike in a hare scramble with VCHSS. The stiffer closed cartridge XACT forks (compared to the XPLOR fork) are much better for hare scrambles, but honestly might not be as good for proper hard enduro riding. Overall I'm thrilled with the bike and the TBI seems to be great so far. It's quite a bit different from my 350 XC-F I had last year.
Cheers!

I literally just bought this same bike 2 weeks ago. I used to race some super amateur MX back in 1999-2000. I am now getting back into bikes, I love mine, but then again it is head and shoulders above what I had before technologically....

great vids! One tip with the PDS, run a heavy spring. If you end up feeling a lot of deflection or it seems too stiff, its more then likely too soft a spring packing with a ton of stored energy. Every time i increased the spring rate on mine, it felt more plush and deflected less over logs and things. TBI motors are amazing, enjoy!!!

Hey, I really appreciate the information. I'll be sure to look out for it as I put a few more hours on the bike. Luckily I'm continuing to lose a little bit of weight and getting pretty close to the weight range for the factory setting on the spring.

Need to be BraaperBeBraapin now. Yes, the fuel pickup location is a real issue. TBI will be about 20% less range than TPI, but still better than carb.

Nihilo makes a better start / stop buttons that are separate and they also sell a 2nd start button for a backup 👍
@BLSdarrin
@BLSdarrin 7 ай бұрын
I dont think they make the backup button for the TBI's yet, just the TPI. I've had 2 failures on the Nihilo's for the 23's so far , they did send replacements though. The connections pull loose , I put epoxy on the replacements

How’s it compare to the 250 model? I’m looking at the TE but info should transfer over for the most part I think. I had a 250xc and it was a lot. Moved to a beta 200rr and love it. But I got to ride a te300 for a short stint and the counterbalanced motor is so smooth and the suspension was awesome. Shouldn’t have ridden it! Thanks in advance

What are those coveralls you’re wearing? I was looking for something like those for the colder rides.

These are the Motoralls by Fasthouse. They are actually pretty sweet setup with a lot of extra pockets including one on the chest and a couple of vents on the legs. They come in several colors like this one, a desert tan, black, camo, and possibly some others. They are lacking the leather patches on the insides of the legs which is a bummer and they are significantly overpriced. Other than that I love them!

Would you say the throttle response is similar to the 350 or is the 350 more “dead” feeling?
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 7 ай бұрын
It's really hard to say. Both are extremely responsive given they are fuel injected, even with the stock throttle cams. The 350 might feel more responsive at lower rpms vs the 300, but that's the nature of modern high compression 4 strokes. Both really are very responsive. Just my 2 cents. I'd be curious what others think

Awesome video man, I've mentioned it before I would consider getting a bike at some point. The lugging ability (tractor factor) is definitely something I would look for in a bike. never thought a two-stroke would be something that would provide that. For some reason I always thought it would be the opposite. Good info and thanks!
@lostinpa-dadenduro7555
@lostinpa-dadenduro7555 7 ай бұрын
I have a GasGas EC300 2 stroke and a GaGas EX250F four stroke. If you’re going to ride in the woods or technical trails I recommend the 2 stroke. It’s the king of lug and tractor factor. Takes a lot less energy to ride too. The 4 stroke is really fun on open trails but it can be a lot of work in tight trails, rocks and what not.
@OdysseyOffroad
@OdysseyOffroad 7 ай бұрын
@@lostinpa-dadenduro7555 thank you! My initial reason for not looking at two strokes was simply due to the fact of the perception of needing more maintenance ie. Needing top and rebuilds more often 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@OdysseyOffroad That’s a bit of a factor but the modern bikes don’t need them as often for non-race use. The guys in my group of friends generally start thinking about a new piston at 100 hours. The service manual says 80 hours but we generally go 100-125 hours. It’s easy to do at home with a buddy though. You can get an OEM piston kit right from KTM. I notice on your channel that you ride in the dunes and the desert. The 4 stroke like the 350F would have an advantage there and the wide open desert trails. A 2 stroke would be the bike to take to Hatfield or if you like low speed rocky desert trails. I’m on the east coast so it’s all woods riding here for us. The modern 2 stroke 300s have a lot of grunt off the bottom and are very rideable in tight conditions. Very linear power versus the 90s bikes where all of a sudden you hit the power band and you’re holding on for dear life. Today’s 2 stroke enduro bikes are tuned for smooth power and maintaining traction. I ride around at low RPM, usually a gear higher, and just lug and chug through the forest.

What brand are those bibs/pants? Does that front pocket become problematic with items in it?
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 5 ай бұрын
They are "motoralls" by Fasthouse. Overly expensive, but I like them. I think other brands are coming out with very similar products for cheaper recently. So far I haven't had any issues with items in the front chest pocket, but I wouldn't race with anything in there out of fear of bouncing my chest off the bars.

Great review, I did the opposite, went from a 20 300 tpi, to a beta 350 RE with KYB, I prefer the linkage, Why ? because in the fast choppy stuff the PDS dances around too much and isn't as planted and stable as the linkage. fyi I'm a muppet rider, wouldn't even make C class on a good day. 👍

How does the tbi compare in weight to the tpi?.. can you feel the extra weight of the tbi?
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 7 ай бұрын
I don't think anyone will really be able to tell a difference. The TBI is on a new chassis too, so that will feel slightly different. I felt right at home taking off for the first time on this bike
@onthethrottle7104
@onthethrottle7104 6 ай бұрын
The TBI is slightly lighter bike than the outgoing TPI bike. I can tell you the TBI feels lighter as well, the suspension is magical right out of the box. After 30 hours on the bike the suspension and frame broke in very nice. If you know how to ride this bike can do wonders for you.

I just did the opposite and bought the (GasGas) 350f . I don’t like the power of the 24 300xcw as it has no toppend power. The 350f has massive power!

Solid choice. Those 350s rip! The 300 XC has about 9 more HP than the XC-W, basically all on the top end - could be another great choice.

Now that I have a handful of hours on this 300, I'm so happy I switched back. I will forever have a soft spot for those 350s, but they're just not great for tight woods, especially at my skill level. I know some dudes can man-handle them through anything.
