Landyachtz

13 жыл бұрын

June 25th - 26th was this year's first annual Whistler Longboard Festival. The Landyachtz EH Team loaded up and headed out for some real world class downhill skateboard racing. The track drops 1000ft and offers up eight 180 degree hairpin turns over the course of one mile.
Time to separate the men from the boys.
Thanks to Cambridge and The Flatliners for their music.

when your racing at that level and winning your heats all day it comes to one simple thing; if your not first, your last. he did not give up, he was simply over it! Both of them shred hard, and will continue to shred hard together at many events to come like they currently are as we speak. This video is liquored with examples of world class, aggressive, race winning riders not willing to give much room at all to another! they didnt get to the Open final by allowing room for elimination!

@emartinezr Actually if you watch it in slow motion you can see james fully extend his arm when kyle falls. Stiffarm. Like i said Kyle put his arm back initaiting contact because he knew James was going to make him CRASH. James should have tried to ride the dirt before he tried to push kyle. Its funny because James was involved in 2 incidents of contact earlier in that heat as well, not to mention a couple other times this year and last. James should have manned up and taken 2nd in my opinion.

@emartinezr Just because you're faster doesn't mean you can just plow through people in front of you. If you're behind someone you have to get around them, And nobody has to let you through just because you clapped. Kyle obviously initiated contact because he was protecting his line, he knew that if James were to get in there and try to pass.... well you saw what happened.

It's James' fault, he constantly tries to take inside lines that never work and always ends up taking someone out. Kyle was leading so he went for the inside line, he wasn't trying to mess anything up for anyone.

Contact always sucks, but: 1. James WAS faster, 2. James clapped to signal the move, 3. Kyle initiated contact with his arm, 4. Kyle didnt get back on to claim 2nd which would have been a bit less of a bummer. 5. This ain't IGSA. In the end, i dont care... the race was awesome!!!! and i'm stoked cause i'll be living in Vancouver next yr. !!!

@ThoseBrownGuys 12 жыл бұрын
i thought the first contact he made in finals was unnecessary however i think when he made some contact with kyle martin i dont think it was his fault because kyle was getting ahead of him right in front of corner and that would have cut of james and most likely caused both of em to crash so i think both of them panicked and tried to keep their distance. i dont think he cheated, i think anyone would do the same in either kyles or james position.
@mondochace
@mondochace 12 жыл бұрын
i dont think that james meant to cheat like i think he did push kyle out of the way but not to make him crash but to make some space between them so they both didnt crash

@emartinezr
@emartinezr 13 жыл бұрын
@andrewchapman30 i understand what you mean. But he didnt exactly plow through, Kyle started the contact and really, Kelly simply checked with his arm, he didnt go for a nasty push. And... extending your arms to protect your line is not good either. Again... this was much smaller issue than it was made out to be, he shouldnt have been booed; and Kyle should have rode to keep 2nd, who knows what the "officials" would decide. Great racers never give up.

All of you need to think about the context of the James Kelly/Kyle Martin incident. Pretend that you're James Kelly. It's the final heat, you've been battling hard with Kyle the whole run. You take the 2nd to last turn better than Kyle did, and come out with more speed. You're approaching him into the last corner, and it's possible to make a pass and win. Who WOULDN'T go for it? Kyle would have went for it. Louis Pilloni, Patrick Switzer, and Wippermann all would have went for it. Think about it

@emartinezr Hey it's cool, we all love James Kelly, i was also booing him as a joke, but you're right it's a grey area that doesn't often have consequences in non-IGSA races. Which kind of sucks. The proper etiquette for passing is simply to get past without any contact. If you go inside on someone and take them out, you're doing it wrong. Passing on the outside takes skill but is usually clean.

kelly looked way more in control of that corner and was taking a better line, who knows if kyle would have still slide out even with no contact. oh well, now kelly and martin are both guilty of a acting out during a race.
