I'm with lane kiffen. Using mental health as an excuse to not do your job is pathetic. These young men are getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships and NIL deals. Mental health breaks are a joke. That's called a vacation. You can't just up and take a vacation with no notice.

Combat veteran here… You’re wrong. You couldn’t possibly be more wrong. Whats the leading cause of death in young men under the age of 45? It’s suicide. Do people abuse the mental health system? Sure. Do you have any right to call someone else a pussy for utilizing it? Hell no you don’t.

I think kicking him off the team was 100% justified. You don’t get to miss 2 weeks and still play ball. I also think that Lane could have handled it a little different. You can’t treat people with mental health issues the same way you do normal people. Mental health is real. If this kid was really spiraling and going through stuff, at least get him some help after dismissing him from the team.
@stinkasscat
@stinkasscat 9 ай бұрын
You are wrong and that's what's wrong with society today, treat people all the same. This kid planned to file a suit before he ever went in that office. Hence secretly recording, hence giving it to the media, hence filing a lawsuit. None of that would have happened if it was really about a mental health issue. Instead of saying " why do you have to talk to me like that" he would have said, " I really need some help." And how do you know they didn't get him help? He's off the team but currently still on scholarship. 40 million has nothing to do with mental health issues. They told him to transfer and he said no, that's when all of a sudden he had mental health issues and took two weeks off to plan what he was going to do. I bet he met with a lawyer during that time.

@@stinkasscat if that’s true and he did go in there with that intent then it will all come out eventually and of course he will be in the wrong! You can’t just assume he went in there with a master plan to file suit against the university!!! How do you know that he didn’t start recording until the conversation got heated??? You don’t know shit so stop acting like you do. I’m just saying that mental health needs to be taking serious. Every single time there’s a mass shooting in our country and they do a background check on shooter what do they always say is wrong with him/her???? Mental health issues!!!! What if this kid decided that he wanted to go shoot up the team because he felt like Lane did him a disservice and didn’t help him enough and now we have a mass shooting at Ole Miss on our hands. Or what if he decided to go off himself because he felt thrown to the waste side?? All I’m saying is that you gotta handle those types of people differently. You do not handle them the same as others what the hell are you talking about??? They literally have facilities for these type of people and they aren’t normal. You obviously haven’t been through or dealt with someone dealing with mental health issues holy shit smh

even with the whole mental health thing.....communication would've solved this. if you communicate up front rather than just not showing up, there's a huge difference. No you can't just not show up for school, work, etc. for 2 weeks without saying anything and expect your job to be there, your grades to be great, etc. sack up.

If you are cut out for the sport and want to whine about being moved to scout team, etc. then just transfer. No job allows for you to act like this and it’s time we call these people out for hiding behind an issue people actually suffer from. I’m glad this is backfiring on him.

Mental health is real. But we do live in a world where there's work that's gotta get done, and no one wants to do it but it has to get done. No one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, and we should all have grace for each other's mistakes. And Lane could have been nicer, sure. But this kid in many ways is in a MUCH more secure situation than he'll ever likely be in, in the future. He's 21, no responsibilities or dependents, his dorm is still paid for through the end of the semester, got that college meal plan. Maybe your boss at work brings you into the office and tells you in nicer words that you're losing your job because you went AWOL for 2 weeks. Ok, if you've got a wife, kids, and your own mouth to feed, a mortgage or rent is due at the end of the month. It will suck way worse even though your corporate boss maybe doesn't use a swear word.

Pat Dye learned that from Coach Paul Bear Bryant who told his players one day your wife will be sick, your kid will be sick and you will be sick but you have to go to work anyway. It was from Coach Bryant that Pat Dye (assistant coach under Bryant) learned to instill mental toughness in his players. That is why the iron bowls were so tough because it was the same teaching leading both teams. Bryant & Saban both have huge Coaching trees of protégé coaches who take the secrets of their success with them when they go to teams that are rivals and create epic battlegrounds like BAMA VS GEORGIA now. Clemson was rebuilt entirely by BAMA coaches and ex players.

I was a bit more empathetic to the kid when I heard the clip initially, kinda figuring that the kid may have some carried out problems that may have been legit which wouldn’t excuse his behavior but when I read the legal complaint to see what his claims were and lost most all empathy of his scenario when reading through the facts of the complaint. I obviously don’t know the kid and I could be entirely wrong but in almost all areas of these issues he points out how everything was the coaches or the university’s fault and none of it was on him at all. He points out injuries that occurred and how they led to severe depression and other effects of the depression that prevented him from being able to live a normal life and each time he lays out that the coaches didn’t provide him the mental health materials they were supposed to and because of that he didn’t know he needed to get treatment for his mental health issues and further that the coaches should have known his depression and referred him to mental health care. Those occurrences were scattered throughout following his injuries, following the meeting where his position coach told him he should transfer because he wouldn’t be used at ole miss and of course following the initial meeting with Kiffin. Each time he lays out that he hadn’t been taught to seek care for his mental health, despite the extreme severity to the point he says he couldn’t live a normal day to day life, but never reveals how he finally learned to seek out care when he said he was taking a mental health break when he was told of the position change and suddenly his mom called the very next day to request he be provided a counselor to help him. Yet somehow all the previous times where he hadn’t had his position changed or told he wouldn’t be playing he didn’t know he needed to get help nor did any human being he had a relationship with through all of that time ever notice nor tell him he needed to get help. He even pointed to how the coach’s should have referred him to mental health services when his grandmother died. All these instances he couldn’t get help because nobody helped guide him, thought it was all on his coaches to do so, but immediately following the position change he didn’t like he now knows all about his mental health and to treat it but never says in the lawsuit how he went from never knowing he needed help or how to get help because as he claims he didn’t know these things because his coach’s didn’t educate him about it. And then outside of the mental health argument he makes claims that his handling was based on race, gender, and even that he didn’t have a safe education environment to learn but at the same time he’s a 3.5 student who did well in school. I don’t wanna wish bad on a kid but it really seems like he tried to use mental health to his advantage and that really sucks because it harms people who are living with those struggles.
