Thanks for your video friend. I’m a relatively new pipe smoker and found that after trying many many different blends that captain black white is my favourite so far but I haven’t tried the Lane equivalent yet. Anyway thanks bud.

i like the cb royal,its my second favorite,however half and half by far is what i smoke the most,i love it

Great video. Milwaukee boy myself (born West Allis) living in NE. I love Captain Black White, but just ordered Lane RLP6 from P&C. This video made me much more comfortable with my purchase. You're doing a great job. I appreciate your videos very much. Keep up the great work.

Very cool comparison of two standbys. I always have some RLP-6 on hand. I also find Lane LL-7 to be in the same ballpark. Enjoy your pipes Michel.

Very good video, Michel! I’d been wondering for months about the differences between CB White and Lane RLP-6. I’ve smoked a lot of the CB but very little of the RLP-6. I may need to try more of the latter, but honestly, I’m quite happy with the CB. I look forward to your future comparison videos. Love me some OTC tobaccos. Captain Black, Prince Albert, Half and Half, Velvet, and Sir Walter Raleigh are some of my favorites. I’m starting to like Carter Hall lately, too! Happy smokes, Michel!

Captain Black White was surprisingly good, when I first smoked it, nothing wrong if you just want a puff. A tad chemical, but not too much, and little low on nic, but respectable…. You can cut it 50/50 with straight Virginia to improve that, nice review🎉

People like to hate on the Captain, but I love it. You're right about the moisture content - I can fire it up and enjoy with very little hassle. I fight more with the "premium" blends than I do with any OTCs. Nice comparison. I've got both but never did a side by side. You'll probably like TK-6: it's the same basic taste but add some cherry to the mix.

Thanks for the tip! I have yet to do a cherry aro, and that sounds like a good place to start along with the more obvious choices. ...and some premium tobaccos are most certainly temperamental!

Happy Chanukah! Do you think the different cut and different storage could account for the differences between them? I haven’t tried RLP-6 but I’d be curious to do this comparison myself.

Chag Chanukah Sameach Achi! I think that accounts for some difference, but I think they're topped differently. Primarily, I suspect many differences are masked by the way Herman Lane's Cavendish streaming technique seems to be used in both brands, and it is the pervasive component to both.

Rlp-6 and 1Q are the same as Captain Black, verified from Lane directly. They use a higher quality leaf in the bulk blends, and they douse CB in propylene glycol for shelf stability

It seems to me higher quality leaf and added topping are two huge changes, making the end result different. Same, but not the same? Thank you for looking into this!

I have both 10oz of RLP-6 AND 3/4 of Captain Black Original left. I like CB better to be honest. I bought the lane bulk because with people being home with this virus CB has been bought up! I'm not happy!! RLP-6 is ok but CB tastes richer and more depth.

I fully agree with you. My suggestion is to check out pipesandcigars.com, as they have both pouches and cans in stock at this moment. smokingpipes.com has pouches. If you luck out, pass along the RLP-6 to some pipers out there who haven't tried it.

I also REALLY like the Copper. It's my go to for traveling tobacco. I hope you'll agree. I have yet to sample Gold.

I keep hearing 1-Q is Captain Black, I'm not familiar with RLP-6, I will watch this series but what say ye about 1-Q? Sorry just started the video, don't know if you mention it.

Oh hmm, so 1-Q I guess is ANOTHER Captain Black... not intimately familiar with all the varietals, excuse me. I guess everyone says 1-Q is Capt Black Royal. EDIT: Aaaand yes, you cover this in next video. My apologies!
