I was one of the kids on this album and I was at the reunion....I will never forget Hans Fenger or the impact he made on our lives.

How was everyone Brenda? I'm absolutely fascinated to know what became of all your friends and fellow musicians. As I said to Hans' cousin on another clip, it's a real time capsule. Edit: just seen part 3 with the reunion...delighted to say everyone looks healthy and happy. Hope everyone was able to make it.

That is so awesome Brenda I hope someone finds this and it re-releases as a documentary. It reminds me of the Blue Eye/Brown Eye project by Jane Elliott

Sorry that this is replying to you 13 years since you posted it. Hope you are still around KZfaq. My fiance and I are just listening to it now. Who sang Desprado if you know? I think the album is fantastic.

I was in elementary school in Canada in the early 1980s and my music teacher must have heard this from somewhere, because the approach (and even the arrangement for "In My Room") seems eerily familiar to me. It *does* make you fall in love with music; I still love music. Thanks, Mr. Fenger for inspiring Mr. Morgan at Parkview School in Komoka, Ontario.

First piece I heard from this album--first time I ever even heard of this album--was Desperado... on a Sunday night, listening to the Dr. Demento Show. He presented it with utmost respect, and admitted that even he was moved by it. A now "late" friend was a big fan of the Eagles, and awaited hearing this arrangement upon mention of it. I immediately ordered the CD re-release, and when it came, my friend was in the hospital for a lung biopsy. Visiting during her recovery, as she lay in bed unconscious, I gently placed my headphones on her ears and began playing the Desperado cover at a noticeable-but-unintrusive volume. The moment the the heart-wrenching sound of the little girl singing that sad ballad began, her eyes popped open as her jaw slowly dropped. She always loved that song... so hearing it in such a way really got her as how she often saw herself: A lonely little girl, with the heart of a desperado.😢

Absolutely amazing. It's as though 30 pre-pubescent Daniel Johnstons formed a Sacred Harp. And I mean that in a VERY good way.

This album now has become kind off a tribute to David Bowie album. Proud of my cousin, Hans Fenger, who made the arrangements!

Music should always come from the heart, first. Talent and learning how to be better at making music should always come second. The world would be so much better if audiences were this way - over merely buying the image.

I too remember that mimeograph purple ink smell and feel of the paper wet-off-the-press. It always gave bragging rights to be elevated to the position of "running the mimeograph." Even the bullies respected that title and skill.

When I heard about the Langley School Music Project I sought out to do a documentary on it because it was such an amazing story. Upon beginning my research for it, I was both saddened and delighted to see VH1 already covered it. At least people know about this now.

I used to think that too, but I was wrong. Reconstructions give a sense of place and time to a story. The alternative would basically be what you would call "radio" : ) or maybe something more like a Ken Burns style using only one photo that is zoomed in on repeatedly. The reconstruction is but one useful tool for making documentaries. They help tell the story and set a mood, set a tone.

I always presumed this record was recorded in Northern England. Fascinating story and I love the album, what I've heard of it particularly 'space oddity' and 'in my room'. I believe some one could find the album in a thrift shop, it seems plausible, anyway...thanks for uploading this documentary.

@Widmerpool99
@Widmerpool99 12 жыл бұрын
@glyniss I know who Chusid is and I don't doubt the charity shop thing happened. But it didn't happen while the cameras were rolling. It's the clunky reconstruction I object to.

@Widmerpool99 Obviously, you don't know who is Irwin Chusid. All that is real, it's been stated many many times on wfmu.
@Widmerpool99
@Widmerpool99 11 жыл бұрын
With respect, Irwin, I'm talking about the reconstruction where Brian Linds "finds" the Langley LP. I'm know that all happened, and that he contacted you; I believe you and him and Hans, although I know none of you personally. But why does Brian have to replay the whole thing years later for the camera? Makes it seem like some "structured reality" show; less real, not more. That's my objection, nothing to do with you or the Langley Project itself.

Fascinating story, but I hate the way TV makes people reconstruct their actions for the camera - the DJ finding the album in the charity shop, for example. It's just so false.

With all due respect, I think you're over-analyzing. It's better to just lose your self in the story. It's better to see some sort of action then just someone talking.
