Our latest Language Trends Wales survey reveals a declining interest in language learning at the GCSE level in Wales.
Amidst all the talk about Artificial Intelligence disrupting the language learning scene, can we instead leverage it to inspire students to learn a language?
We conducted an experiment with students at Crickhowell High School in Wales. Watch what happened.

When I found out about this AI translator, I was disappointed. There's no point in making a lot of effort learning another language for years if you can translate something in seconds

As a Brit who speaks a number of other languages, I can reassure you the reactions and joy you get from people when you speak to them in their native language rather than using a translator, are well worth it. If languages are to be seen as a mere exchange of basic information with no regard to feeling or nuance, then Google translate has been in our pockets for some while already. Chatting to someone via a translator is fun as a novelty but quickly reveals itself as clumsy and gets in the way if you really want to have a deep conversation without interruptions. Check out Luca Lampariello if you want some inspiration on how to learn a language in months rather than years.
