@@sarshwath The monkey was not supposed to fall, that was incidental, probably accidental. That does not discredit the whole experiment. Not sure if you see it, but this is very good research on how humans evolved. Primates seem to have many emotions and types of behavior that exclusively began with their species/genus. Don't forget, grief is not physical pain. These monkeys only knew the puppet for some minutes before grieving him. They'll probably forget it as fast. Just because they're reacting emphatically, doesn't make them protected somehow. Emotion is like any other behavior.

That's ridiculous. Monkeys are extremely violent and abusive towards each other. They do temporarily "grieve" some deaths but mostly they go unnoticed. There's no compassion or empathy towards living troop members, you should see how they actually treat each other. If people treated each other like that this would be hell.

Lol you probably hate cereal killers, the idea that humans place life on some kind of pedestal is funny to me. Most westerners consider dogs and cats as apart of their family and sometimes even value their lives more than humans. But a cow, chicken or pig's life is somehow worthless because someone said so. No one is forcing you to become vegan but acting like eating and murdering animals just for the sake of one's pleasure is somehow justified or not morally wrong is funny to me. Animals have every right to live on planet Earth as do we. I would make the argument animals are even better than human beings. Considering the fact humans are destroying the planet, continuously killing each other and every action is only done for the benefits of our selves as a species. The funny thing is we were once living in a trees being hunted by tons of animals, but oh wait we came from Adam and Eve Nvm.

Some people are getting upset over this, and while I might understand where ya'll are coming from, some points 1. They never intended for the spy to be dropped and for the monkeys to believe it's dead 2. Filming their grief is for educational purposes, not for entertainment. It's not like a producer can come out and explain to the monkeys that the baby was fake, then do a second take like nothing happened 3. This would be a better alternative than testing their emotional responses inside a zoo or lab. Here, they're in their natural habitat and can be comforted by their family and friends 4. Death is a common occurance in nature, it's not like the researchers inflicted it upon them 5 (credit to Ross for this one): This shows that animals have the same emotions humans do, thus it encourages people to treat them with compassion. Again, I understand why ya'll would be upset, you feel bad for the monkeys. That isn't a bad thing, but channeling that into anger towards the researchers isn't healthy, especially since it wasn't their fault the spy was dropped.

It’s not like they don’t devote their entire lives to understanding and teaching others about the planet we live on or anything.
