2 superstars, who both won the TDF twice in the last 4 years, sprinting for that victory after a brutal 5h stage with 4350 altitude meters… This is why the Tour is the biggest cycling race out there. Just speechless.

Great stage. Fantastic. I love how unpredictable this stage was. Every journalist predicted a breakaway win and we get this. Everyone would’ve predicted Pogi winning the sprint, and we get this. Everyone has said Jonas is a bit robotic and we get this incredible interview where he cries and talks about family and his comeback. Bravo to all the riders!

When we talk about the robotic side of Jonas, we always always talk about his riding. I do not like the cyclist and competitor Jonas, but the person, the human being Jonas, I have nothing against. This is important to understand. There must be a clear distinction between racing and personal stuff.

Man what a stage, i don't really have a favorite but man what a ride from Vingegaard. i was screaming at the tv during that sprint for Vingegaard and he got the well deserved stage win, the fact he didn't had the best prep and that crash earlier this year. he deserved it and even though it only resulted in a 1sec difference in favor of vingegaard wich is still over a minute behind. That had to be a hugh blow to Pogi's moral. There was doubt in the beginning off the tour if we would have the rivalry from past years. Today we got our answer and i'm all for it. 6:48 - I was there at this big highway! I was standing in the distance on the right (I was wearing a bright yellow Australia cricket jersey). They flew past! It was awesome seeing them up close! I joined a tour group (Bikestyle) and we do some riding to intersect the stages - I can now understand why Europeans are so strong and why other continent's riders go there to train - the gradients are easily 10 percent (and much steeper) anywhere you go. At one point in our ride today, there was a little country road that we were descending and there were 3 riders riding up and I swear they were riding up faster than I was descending!

@@MrVKennethThat's almost literally completely the other way around, I'm afraid. The expenditure of carbohydrates exceeds the rate of absorption. Even assuming 150 g of carbs per hour only results in 600 kcal of carbs ingestion. In the meanwhile these guys can push 420 watts as FTP, and at that intensity very little fat is used. And 400 watts per hour is about 1600 kcal per hour, so yes a lot of carbs still have to present endogenously and bonking will occur if the event lasts long enough. Also, lactic acid is the saviour of endurance athletes, not the enemy despite of it being a common myth. You don't have to take my word for it, I'm just a registered dietitian and MSc in Human Movement Sciences, specialization Sports and Nutrition, but the scientific literature is clear on the matter. What an amazing stage. Glad Primož got 30sec credit. Not sure if Tadej had to attack in all these stages due to fatigue piling up and some major mountains coming but his style is perfect for TV.

@alexanderishere1857 23 күн бұрын
He think Jonas is better in the high mountains so pogacar feels he has no choice but to attack on all these other stages to try to get the win. If hw just sits back then Tadej would now be like 10 secs ahead only and he doesn't think that would be enough. So he is forced to attack.

I actually think I know why Vingegaard look back. Look at the situation a few times. He is looking at Yates because when pogi attacked, Yates job was done, and he swung out to the right, but in doing so he got in the way of Vingegaard's response, making him have to curve around Yates. I am not certain of this, but it looks like he was annoyed with Yates for a moment, because of it. And honestly I would have been too x3 Does anyone agree with me? Or am I misreading the situation? 3:50

You could see Pog was tiring and Vingegard seemed to be getting stronger. UAE have lit up the first 1/3 of the tour to try and eliminate the other 3. The gaps are still pretty small considering the amount of climbing they’ve done. I fear for Pog when they hit the big mountains as Vingergard seems to be improving by the day and Pog whilst better than 99% of the peloton, has shown a tiny crack today. It may be a one off. Whatever happens this tdf has been outstanding.

Jonas never cracks, he'll lose time but only a few seconds here or there. The fear is that if Pogi cracks, he'll lose minutes.

Stage 14 on Sat Jul 13 has two HC climbs. It’s Vingegaard’s one and only chance to catch Tadej. He has to drop him on the second HC climb, or this TDF is over. Go Jonas !!

I mean, what a stage; I was shouting at the TV when Pog attacked. Jonas did his classic pacing to bring it back then Pogi smashed the descent. Jonas looked like he went deep to bridge the gap on the penultimate climb while Pogi seemed to crack. In many ways, Pog is lucky that Jonas only won the stage as I think there was a chance he could have lost a lot of time today. My overall feeling is UAE need to let the race come to them rather than going on the attack. Consolidate the lead, let Visma do the work and wait for the right time to go. Of course, easy to say that as an armchair fan with hindsight 😀

Pogacar needs to put pressure on Vingegaard and let him pull when they are in front together. These pulls at the end made no sense and were counterproductive in every way. Pogi would have won this one if it wasn't for these pulls on the last false flat. When you want to act like you are stronger you get beaten in the end.

Massif Central is an area easily overlooked. Great to see the Tour using the Puy Mary over the past few years. The climbs are shorter than Alps or Pyrenees but tough - especially that side of the Puy Mary. The Col de Pertus is short but punishing and the descents are narrow and technical. Brilliant to see the stage raced in this way.

Pogacar cannot dig as deep or maintain the same pace for as long as Jonas can. When Pogi goes empty, he's dropped for good. That is a MAJOR disadvantage in the high mountains like the four upcoming stages.
