#Laos is Southeast Asia's final frontier. One of the least explored countries in the region, and #Laotian food is a black box to most foreigners. In this #vlog, I arrive in capital city #Vientiane and go on a hunt for traditional #Lao street food and Laotian noodles (Khao Piak). Let's check it out.
Don't forget to watch in 4K!
Thanks for watching! Cheers, Nick :)

Great! You are the first westerner who knew about Laotian history regarding Isaan and Laos. Bravo! You nailed it. Yeah, French arbitrary used the Mekong river as border between Siam and Laos in 1893.

Isan is Laos until 1893, until France was divided by the Mekong border, the left of the river passes into Thailand, the right of France (modern Laos) !!! ordinary old generation if Thais, then they say Lao-Isan, and if Laotians, then they say Tai-Isan, Isan words are like pity a person or like a person from one country to another country

Lao and Thai have the same ancestors. They're divided because of dynasties in the past. The difference is like England and America similar in language but different history.

I like to call Kao Peak as the Laotian Udon. For those who can’t imagine or describe just say it’s like udon or Banh Canh from Vietnam, or chicken noodle soup if we still have trouble describing it.

Welcome to my country (Laos). I’m glad that you like Vientiane and have enjoyed trying to have Lao foods. That noodle shop is not far from my house. I like this noodle shop too. It’s Saep. Saep means yummy 😋. I heard you talk about Lao foods are similar to Isan foods. Actually Isan and Lao foods are same because Isan used to be Laos 🇱🇦. Here’s a link about Isan en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Lao_and_Isan

I thought I watch 1 more video from you. thank you is "Kob chay" NOT "hob chay". The Lao seems to have taken many foods from the Vietnamese. Sure, a Vietnamese guy made it really famous in 1970s the Banh Mi. Now even the Lao makes like it was Lao food. In the sit down restaurants, the Lao even make egg rolls and Banh Xeo the Vietnamese way. Now, the "soup" Khao Pierk. Literally, it means wet rice. The noodles are made of rice flour. You can have khao pierk just with rice grains. It would be thicker. Your soup was more soupy almost like the Vietnamese Pho. However, in Vietnam, you would find this porridge with the noodles but thicker. It would be made from pork bones and comes with chunks of pork blood and you even eat it with pieces of Cha Quay (big double sticks of dough, chinese style). Really good. I read and speak Lao, Vietnamese, English and spanish. I can speak a little Thai. I don't know how you guys travel without speaking hardly anything.

Hello Kow peik sen is the noodles version. Kow peik kow is the rice version. Both originated from Vietnam. I DK why they spelled it and the way it pronounce on the map is Vientiane but it should spell and pronounce it as “VeingChanh “

in the southern (Savannakhet and Pakse huge vietnamese population) part of Laos before we left that is call BAHN CANH. My family travel a lot when we were little. When we moved to Vientiane they call it Kow Piek Sen ( I suspect that the entire country now call it that). But banh canh /Kow piek sen is a vietnamese dish. Off topic, Kow Piek Sen is congee /rice porridge to me. The banh canh soup in the southern part back then is thicker than what I see you eating now and also thicker than I see them eating in Vietnam.
