Back in the days when , what you saw on the Track , you could BUY at a Dealership . Standard Production Bikes , fettled by factory Mechanics . Parts got scrutinised . They WERE as sold in the Dealerships . Just carefully assembled and Set Up . With , of course , the VERY BEST Riders on them .

When former World Motorcycle Champion Johnny Cecotto first went to the mountain in 1985 to race a BMW 635 CSi (to 2nd place) in the James Hardie 1000, he could not believe Gregg Hansford when he told him they raced bikes there also. IIRC at the time, Hansford held the outright lap record at Bathurst on a bike.

I saw the battles between Geg Hansford and Warren Willing. I think Graeme Crosby used to challenge on a modded Kawasaki 1,000 and doing wheelies to entertain the crowd a few spots down.

One of the most awesome motorcycle experiences, as a spectator or rider, killed off by dickheads. I really can't believe the stupidity of some Governments.....and the fact that my Sons will never have the pleasure of being at 'The Mountain' for the Easter races.
@0Zolrender014 жыл бұрын
@Diptwankynard I had the pleasure of watching the Aussie Superbikes race there in 2000. It was billed as the first race in about 20 years of bikes there. But you rae right they arnt allowed to race there now due to saftey because of the closeness of concrete walls, there is no runoff. Pity noone told them about Isle man TT.

Just letting you know that I am expecting the television production shot at Bathurst NSW, for the "Bikes are Back at Bathurst, Easter 2000 event," to be released on DVD by Christmas 2010 for all you Rev Heads!

Watching that tacho on the gear changes up the mount. The RPM drop on the up shifts it must be a climb.

Make it go fast first , make it stop and handle well second ! Household names to the biker set...Hansford,Crosby, Flood, Phyllis, Gardner and the Doohan boys. Epic bikes and epic races ! Prerequisite for success...the ability to clench the seat with your butt and BIG kahunas ! Today's sterile world seems so lame !😎👍

I was there but I can't remember the details of the races. We camped up top. I think Crosby didn't run that year but I may be wrong.

Magnificent track, and they fucked it over for a taxi-cab race. Closed it in with barriers so that fat tyred pensioner cars that don't steer could stay on the track.

I'ts sad now they no longer have the Easter races at Bathurst......I went there a few times....towards the end, the shit was caused by bully-boy police officers....drunken patch wearers and media rabble that helped incite the trouble.....particularly the the bastards from channel 7 who stirred up a lot of shit just so they could some news for the TV.... It was finally canned..... those of us who went there for the racing were the big losers in the end.

Had several chats after the racing with your pop at the older Winton circuit in Victoria in the later 1970s and early 1980s. Dennis (pop) was a fierce competitor in the field of top riders of the day. Anyone who rode the old Bathurst course needed much skill, extreme determination and some luck, as it was a dangerous course for all riders. R.I.P. Dennis Neill.

It is great to watch and great history. But Rob Phyllis says it was too dangerous for bikes and he’d always ride to survive there. There’s a good interview with Phyllis on KZfaq. Good insight to that era of racing. He said he turned down good money to ride IoM. You can’t accuse Phyllis of being a pussy. Probably the greatest rider australia produced, definitely one of.

Great rider Dennis Neill sidelined because of faulty spanner work! Front wheel not secured, fell out up Mountain straight. Great loss to racing.
