Nice work Sorin! That model HP uses the cheapest plastic I have ever seen. It is very brittle and cracks easily especially where the hinges mount. You have to be VERY careful opening the laptop when the bottom cover is removed because the hinge mounts can snap. If the hinge gets too tight it can also cause the cheap plastic mounts to break. Nothing is made to last anymore.

I am very thankful to you Sorin, Sir for making a video of such a thorough job. It gives me inspiration to venture to work on my Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5224, which has a loose hinge, all vowels of the keyboard do not work, after watching a movie for longer than 1 hour, the screen suddenly started malfunctioning - flickering. I thought it got too hot. I opened the laptop and cleaned the fan blades and then vacuumed the air inlet (tiny holes on the top portion of the keyboard). I reinstalled the display driver and reseated the RAM, battery, touch screen. Screen flickering getting worse to a point that screen getting dim and nothing shows up on the screen. However, I used an external keyboard and external monitor connecting the monitor with a HDMI cable. The external monitor is displaying everything and playing movies perfectly. I do not want to buy a new screen. The laptop's screen was fantastic before trouble started. I have not touched the LCD display cable. However, unplugged the touch screen to reduce interference. I might have made a mistake when I unplugged the touch screen cable - perhaps did not disconnect the battery (disconnected the charger though). Sorin's video gives some hope to identify the connection point(s) of the display cable on the motherboard side as well as on the back of the screen. This model of Toshiba laptop is more complex than other models. Any feedback from viewers as well as from our Professor, Sorin is much appreciated. God Bless you, Sir!! You are really, really good - running short of words to appreciate what you do and your knowledge and mentality - help others and the environment. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!!!

On vacation i fix up computers and laptops in my village. I often see broken hinges and i tell the customer. We can A. Glue it together but it will likely break agin and it might not be possible, B. Buy a new screen housing but it will definetly break agin or C. Repair it proper solid with a bolt and nut on the other side. They always choose C and never regret.
@sweetmemories4448
@sweetmemories4448 3 жыл бұрын
I applied A (JB Weld two compound mixed thoroughly) and failed miserably - did not stick to the cover of my Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5224 laptop at all. I am ready to apply method C, drill hole on cover, put bolt and nut. However, I am afraid that it may rip off the top cover around the hinge area because the hinge is very tight. I think this model of Toshiba laptop is very complex and may pose a challenge to access to loosen the hinge. This video gives some hope to access and loosen the hinge before putting bolt and nut. Thanks for your post as well as thanks to the author of this video.

I appreciate a lot that type of video, good to you to show that sort of situation (even when you go into trouble for some customers, losing time, and there is an accident then, you may face trouble) great to show that repair, thanks This is a hobby for me I admit ; that sort of laptop is relatively easily sold between 60 - 100€ then send away to another country. SO some laptops from the bin get a new life and are useful to someone in the end - after sometime, I get used to old type USB replacement on telephones and other blue tooth devices, thanks to all those videos, does not make me an electronician, but somebody that can help in some case ;)

What I've learned from several repair videos and channels is to always check the second mosfet. If this is shorted, even the first one does not work because of lacking gate-voltage. But anyways, this channel was the starting point of my interest in electronic repairs. I've learned a lot since then and still do. Thanks Sorin.

An interesting repair as solve to each problem. The customer and the cost as first goal to operation. And the care with heat to hot glue. I am using the techniques to a 50 year old electronic. *Baldwin( (fun machine). (1975). which came to my shop bench mostly working as all original. Also very heavy dust *repair as compressed air. clean out rapid. An circuit board diagram as very early digital signal path. Unit is working well to tones, voices, rhythm At a troubleshooting to a likely mosfet fail, my hand slipped and I shorted a tv unit to fail, destroyed. (last week). Was not a customer's but salvaged unit....and a reminder to me to use effective bench and workspace place as component. I study your work bench to consider best placement as solder and tool layout. Thanks for the post and training to craftsmanship....great to learn from your work. Thank you....with "Regards from Washington State, US. McGary".

We need more videos like this there are times where ordering a part isn't the easiest or fastest . Here in serbia we don't have an option for cheap and fast shiping of those parts so the only option many times is to order from aliexpress or ebay and wait few months which isn't the optimal solution most of the times if customer needs his device done as soon as posible. And this is great temporary solution for the customer to get it working untill part arives. Thanks for the video!

@cptrush3671
@cptrush3671 3 жыл бұрын
its not the point of if it was easy to replace. if he didnt charge the customer much and was able to make it work then all is fine. why would you add new parts at your own cost ? you like to give away profit? and to be honest that laptop was not worth even repairing. but he did get it working and usable again. so there is no mistake made here.

@@cptrush3671 We have other opinions. Sorin has enough scrap boards with matching MosFet, but new such a MosFet also costs only 5-10 cents. I'd rather lose 5 cents than return the notebook not working properly. The job ist the same. And I think if he knew these fault, he would have changed it too.
@electronicsrepairschool
@electronicsrepairschool 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe a missed something there, but why replacing the second mosfet in a case like this one, where the voltage is not passing the first mosfet? I mean, we are replacing a burned component if the component is faulty, but this is not the case as the gate signal is missing from the first mosfet which is a channel n and is supposed to have 19v on the gate
@SiETechNotebookReparatur
@SiETechNotebookReparatur 3 жыл бұрын
@@electronicsrepairschool If the second Mosfet is shorted, CMSRC (ACDRV charge pump source input) will also be shorted to ACP (Input current sense resistor positive input), the BQ-IC will not output an ACDRV signal to both MosFets. Just always check whether the second MosFet is shorted. (and Channel N supposed to have 19V + 6V also 25V on the gate)

Almost always the left hinge on HP correct? On this type of job, I skip repair and go straight to "data recovery" mode. I save the files and dispose of the toxic waste for customer. I make some money, customer gets their files and can buy another device. All win. Good trick with the hot glue and loosen the hinge. I give it a try next time. I usually drill through case and send a bolt/washer/nut all the way through case. Ugly yes, but holds. I'm happy you fixed it for them.

Seems like you'd have super glue remover on hand, test it on a part of the plastic and soak the port in that. Then epoxy the hinge and the port into place with minimal application. Almost the same amount of work/time but doesn't seem that glue will hold the hinge. Maybe customers appreciate the economy version costs but others might want an option to have it done right.

I bought a new 1920 X 1080 screen for my 12 year old 16" Acer a year ago on ebay. I payed $19.95 for it with free shipping. It still works great. I got a great price only because there are so few like my Aspire 6920 that are configured for full HD and the seller wanted to get rid of about 50 of them.

I would never agree to repair a laptop like this. I warn my clients that for a computer contaminated with chocolate and Coca-Cola and not cleaned for years - I take double. It's like going to the doctor without bathing for a few months. Please refuse such repairs.

I don't think you need to apologize for such a job, you did everything possible for such a job for that money, it can normally be done better, but it takes parts that cost money and it takes more time, and it costs, in the end a job well done

Some people want you to take chicken poop and turn it into chicken soup and make it taste and smell good too. That's what this job is. Somehow you managed once again to work a miracle on a scrapper and made it at least functional. Saved the customer data recovery, and an immediate purchase of a new laptop too.

most people don't understand, that hinges with integrated stopper (that have a proper amount of conterpressure), like laptop hinges HAVE TO BE MOVED SLOWLY.... seeing so many moving the screens so fast, that hinges cannot live long... but some laptops have also a poor quality....so the chance to break the hinges are double...
