The first time I had ever even seen Lara Fabian was when my wife and I were flipping channels and stopped on PBS to see what this David Foster Hitman thing was. She came out and sang "Caruso". We were frozen solid for the whole performance, jaws hanging open. When it ended, we just looked at each other absolutely stunned. We rewatched it 3 more times before calling the kids in and forcing them to watch it.

But then she'll highlight colours I'm only vaguely aware of and show me how important they are, too. She has absolute mastery of her art form and uses it to pull people *into* her realm to show them the beauty that is there as opposed to standing on a pedistal and showing that mastery off.

I'm a man, and I'm 45 though... :) This song is definitely in Top 5 of all times for me. Igor Krutoy was so damned right when he said a few years ago that Lara was the only singer in the world who could sing about love properly. I'm so happy and proud of having had a chance to attend one of her concerts and even talked to her after it. It was a very brief dialogue, we spoke in English mostly, but also in Italian and even in Russian... I simply fell in love with her. I mean how can a man not fall in love with such an amazing woman?

The reason why she’s so good at keeping notes without falling apart is because she said in an interview that she lives philosophically with the way of the catharsis, she believe that the way to deliver ourselves from pain is to live it and face it without fear and just taking it, it’s the reason why she stay stronger no matter what emotions she have to deal in a song!

I love her sooooooooo much! Her tone, use of vocal fry, the switching between “Singing” and the more “spoken” lines are ALL stunning but the thing that always breaks me the most is how she even weaponizes her BREATHS! You KNOW she knows how to breathe silently but she still makes sure you HEAR that breath... those gasps... to make you even feel the desperation in those “silent” moments! I’d LOVE to hear you react to her performance of Comme Ils Dissent... the song itself is beautiful (it’s written by Charles Aznivore about being a gay man... and even more, a Drag Queen, in the world) but the way she embodies and performs is just breathtaking...

Hello Elizabeth! Great reaction and great analysis. Yes, Lara is fluent in Italian because Italian is one of her native languages from her mother's side who is Sicilian, the other is French from her father's side who is Belgian. Lara lived in Italy until she was 5 years old, then her dad moved the family back to Belgium. Caruso is a song that usually male opera tenor legends like Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras, Kaufman and Bocelli has in their repertoire because it takes a masterful, powerful voice to deliver it to perfection. I'm Lara's age and I haven't come across any other female singer yet who came even close to perform it like Lara did. She gave an absolute masterclass on how to perform such an emotionally charged song without losing the ability to carry out every single note. I think it is truly one her unique talents. I've been following her career over 25 years now and I've seen her live on stage a handful of times. It's absolutely remarkable that Lara's voice is near studio quality when you hear her live. Few people asked me if her voice is really this good or it's just a studio editing for the tape. I can honestly say that her voice is like this in real life. Yes, every live tape is edited for mass production to clear up background noise and enhance certain parts of the music, but it's true with every artist no matter if you are just a newcomer or world class singer like Bocelli. So, yes, Lara is this good and then some!

One of my favourites too. She co-wrote "Broken Vow" with Walter Afansieff, who has co-written a new song that Dimash is working on, "Love is Not Over Yet". Lara and Dimash are composer Igor Krutoy's two favourite artists to write for, and now Afansieff has singled them out too. I will always be grateful that Lara was such a major influence on Dimash's development. The pair of them are the only singers who have ever moved me to tears without understanding the language they're singing. Lara is a vocal goddess.

People forget just how influential Caruso was at the beginning of recorded music, as he adopted it before almost anyone else would. 246 recordings in an 18 year period and 863 appearances at the New York Metropolitan Opera in addition to many tours around the world. He did so many recordings that his heirs were millionaires just on the back of his catalogue after his death.

I’m Canadian and am proud of how masterfully Lara performs this beautiful song. Another version to note is done by Pavarotti and Lucio Dalla (who wrote the song Caruso). They are amazing together. It also helps to understand what’s going on in the song by reading the translated lyrics. Please consider reviewing this piece.

well.. as al music and emotion is personal i can imagine why you would choose those songs. Still, personally i think that Lara is bestin French and Italian. The passion, the pain and the hurt she has singing it makes me feel so much more connected than with her English songs. Those are just songs, those are just Celine Dion' ish.. while her French songs are so pure and Lara Fabian only.. Just my two cents. You can feel what you feel and thats how it shoud be ofcourse. Just wanted to add my feelings :)

Italian is her mother tongue - mom is from Sicily; dad is from Belgium. She's fluent in Italian, French, Spanish and English but has sung in many other languages, as well. You can see so much of Dimash's dynamic control and usage comes from her even including the sharp in-breathing during soft, emotional passages.

I never forget a voice that touches me. I remember Lara Fabian's voice from a credits score that was included in a movie I watched a looong time ago, I believe it was the first final fantasy animated film, the track was called "The Dream Within". Such an incredible voice, it was like the music accompaniment didn't even need to be there. The way the song ebbed and flowed was just perfect. Big thumbs up for Fabian from a primarily metal-listening subscriber!!

@@TheCharismaticVoice I highly recommend reacting to it. Not many people are likely to suggest it, but it's a stunning piece of music. The Final Fantasy series is renowned for its score; Nobuo Uematsu is one of the best composers I can think of and Squaresoft never cut corners on their musical themes. 'The Dream Within' was my introduction to Lara Fabian. I have spent the last two decades simply adoring the woman and her magnificent talent because of it.
