Caruso is an italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar It has very quickly become a classic of italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. and of course Luciano Pavarotti). But for many, Lara's version is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla. I was told that Lucio Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it. The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her. For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Her husband is also sicilian.

LARA with links: Lara Fabian is a Canadian of Belgium birth and Italian/Franco/Flemish cultural heritage. Lara spent a decade in a Brussels Conservatory studying piano, composition, and voice. Lara is a full lyric soprano with a vocal range that spans three octaves (A5, B4, BB4, C3, C5, C#5, D5, E5, EB5, F5, F#5, G5) in live performances. She is multilingual; in fact, she speaks Italian, French, Spanish, and English and has sung in 12. Lara, who describes herself as a songwriter/singer creates a high level of emotional connection with the listener. She has a discography of over 400 songs, has sold over 30 million records, and plays to sold-out venues worldwide. She lives in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with her husband and daughter. A “50 at 50” - fifty live performances celebrating her 50th birthday had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 but has been rescheduled as “The Best of Lara”. The reason why I’m a ‘fan’ is her high level ‘EQ’ emotional intelligence expressed in the text of her songs. La raison pour laquelle je suis un « fan » de Lara Fabian est son « QE » élevé, qu’elle exprime dans le texte de ses chansons. Best reaction to his song I have ever seen. You did your homework on the backstory to the song. Bravo. Almost no one does and it is critical to understanding the lyrics AND Lara's brilliant interpretation. Thank you. You now know fully, she is the Queen, long may she reign. How much attention to detail does Lara give in her work? Here is another example. Lara sings - Gulf of "Surriento" not Sorrento - not a mistake. "Surriento" is the Neapolitan word for Sorrento, a word which Caruso would have used (He was born in Naples). LARA. MISSES. NOTHING. A quick side note: I adore Luciano Pavarotti, and "adore" barely scratches the surface. I am a child of the Pavarotti Era and we all worshipped him, live, I remember seeing him live like it was yesterday. There have been only two voices that can make me tear up just hearing them. Luciano and Lara. Luciano's "Caruso" is traditional, he uses the high notes at the end of phrases to go big. She uses them to go angelic. Her interpretation is vastly different. And in all do respect - molto rispetto - to the Maestro, I like Lara's better. Beautiful song, beautifully...masterfully done, in perfect Italian by Lara. Covered by many artists, even the author says this is Lara's song now... She has you now, as she has all of us.

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind Don't have the time for my own channel - lol. I "discovered" Lara 18 months ago. I was awed, then angry. How on earth had I not heard her before ??? I am a bit of a musical nut, amateur musician, and listen to all forms of music from all over the world. Seemed inconceivable that a talent this large had escaped me. 18 months later I have listened to most everything available live. While her recordings are great, nothing beats Lara Live. Her voice. A conundrum. There is something hard to pin down about her voice....warm but strong. A hard combo. Her whole head must be vibrating. Many sound like tin, or are basically yelling. Lara sounds full, easy, warm yet powerful. And as she goes up the octave, she can carry the weight of her mid-range chest voice, and the warmth, with it. When she switches to a "head" voice, as the experts call it, you barely notice. In most even great singers you can easily tell when they switch over to a head voice. If you do watch reactions from actual voice coaches on Lara, this is one of the things you hear. "When did she switch?" , "How did she do that?". Not been able to figure it out as I am not a vocal expert, but her voice just kills me.

Hi Bob. Many thanks for another good reaction to Lara Fabian, you are definitely one of the best reactors for Lara, you hit the nail on the head when you explain how Lara's song affects you. Lara was 8 years old when she started at the conservatory in Belgium, she had singing lessons and learned to play the piano and write songs. She still has a voice coach and still practices every day. You need a record cover from Lara for your wall, hope you come up with more hard field reactions to Lara soon, we have lots of suggestions for new songs from Lara, just tell us what direction you want to go and we'll find some good ones songs you can react to. It's all the little tins that make the big difference for me. She is humble and grateful when she finishes her song, she immediately gives her musicians a thank you, her pianist, the one she has sung duet with always gets a hug and she seems genuinely happy that the audience claps and acknowledges her preformance. And the way her concerts are produced, when we see them, she is very careful to show all the musicians who are on stage, including her backing singers. She's not afraid to look ugly if the song demands it. She is completely free and herself. Love Lara ❤ Love from Denmark ❤

Lucio Dalla, the author of this song, said that Lara's version was the best. Given that this song was also covered by Pavarotti, that shows that once a song is covered by Lara Fabian, she owns it. Even Dimash, who in my opinion will be the standard we measure all vocalists by the time he finishes, cannot compete with Lara when they cover the same song. She just adds that emotional part that is impossible to replicate. When I listen to Dimash, I marvel at his voice. When I listen to Lara, I get lost in the story she's singing. It's just another level when both the brain and the heart join together in enjoying a song!

Very, very good analysis ! Congrats. Everything seems natural when she sings. And yet, I am almost certain that every gesture, every smile, every look, and of course every intonation and voice effect is repeated and repeated over and over again. To reach this perfection which leaves us to think, that it is impossible to do better.

I’m not sure, but I always think that the reason she is using her arms so much in this performance might have to do with the Italian culture, the hand gesticulations and the passion with which it’s done, it’s so Italian - just like Caruso

Hi Bob. This is ultimate standard of live vocal performance. If somebody asks me and give me no choice but to choose, to pick just one performance and song by any artist, it would be this. I think this performance is the perfect perfection. There is absolutely nothing to correct or change in here. Not a single second or note or gesture anyware. And her vocals and voice and emotions and living that song is just breathtakingly gorgeous with that surreal vocal control. Even her speaking parts are music to ears. And then there is that Voice! Voice that melts all the ice in this world. This is the masterclass above everything else. That song just can't be performed better. Ever. Never. By anyone. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Lara’s rendition is the best and will never be equaled. But I would like to introduce you to a 4 male crossover harmony group named “ Forestella” from South Korea. When they performed their first song ( the Freddy Mercury classic“ Bohemian Rhapsody”) it catapulted them to international stardom and they now have millions of followers worldwide. They were all at one time solo performers. One has a very deep bass/baritone voice. Another, a high operatic voice, and the other two group members (who were also solo performers at one time) combine to render “je suis malade” a confluence of absolute total passion and performed live on stage in front of thousands of fans. I thought no one would ever come close to Lara’s soulful rendition. And no one vocalist will. But when you have 4 members and the best vocal harmony group in the world, well. ( all I can say is have your Kleenex handy). This is a masterpiece. I’ve watched it numerous times and spent more $$ on Kleenex than I really could afford. Some of their other songs I recommend are Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound Of Silence”, Guardian “ Angel” that will lift your spirits and transport you to another world-especially during these troubled covid times. And the hauntingly beautiful “ hijo de la luna” But “ Le Suis” remains my all time favorite. I’ve watched it at least 5 times and each and every time it moved me to my depths. All love from Miami Beach , Florida, Al

I listened again to your wonderful reaction. 2 comments of mine on your accurate statements: 1/ you said : her voice is warm and full. Maybe the word you were looking for is Resonant. She is known to have the most resonant voice in the world and is nicknamed The Ring for this specific reason. This is why her voice in the upper register sounds more pleasant than with many others belters: no strain, backward placement with natural and circular airflow maximizing her resonators. A reactor rightly said: her belts are always “supported” 2/ you said she is not a standard pop singer as her voice is more sophisticated. This comes from her classical soprano training. She has been classically trained 10 years in Royal Conservatory of Brussels, continues to be classically trained on a daily basis and only headed for pop songs as it would enable her to write and create songs as well.

The source of the refrain "te vojo bene assaje" comes from a Neapolitan song entitled "Dicitencello vuje". Here "Dicitencello vuje", at 0:52 you can hear the refrain. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nLaKf6eB15maeZs.html&ab_channel=LeandroCampagni

Hi Bob, Lara's emphasis on the individual words is exemplary. I can not speak Italian. But I could follow the subtitles with ease. And the emotions that Lara can express with her voice - outstanding. Lara is in a class of her own. As you said. So many artists have them as role models - including Dimash. There has been at least one meeting between these two great artists. There is even an outstanding opera singer with them. You should also like these voices united in one song. - Dimash Qudaibergen, Lara Fabian, Aida Garifullina - Ti amo cosi - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jseBecmiqJnQnok.html - His wonderful tenor voice and two extraordinary women - Lara Fabian - Je t'aime - Live in Paris, 2001 - Emotional Performance - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f7-eedqGx6mdcWw.html - one in a million concert Have a nice week and Greetings from Germany

What is your favorite song to perform and why? LF: Of mine? Hmmm...I have two favorites - “Pas Sans Toi”, the French song that my fans adore, and “Broken Vow”. She is multilingual, she speaks Italian & Sicilian (from her mother), French and some Flemish (from her father), Spanish and English. She has also sung in Azerbaijani, German, Greek, Hebrew, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish.

The writer of this song, Lucio Dalla (from Bologna, northern Italy), wrote this in 1986 while staying in one of the rooms where Enrico Caruso, former famous tenor (From Neaples, southern Italy), spent the final days of his life. Caruso was 48-years-old when he died, and a few years before Caruso died, he married Dorothy Park Benjamin who was 20 years younger. They had a baby girl they named Gloria. Lucio Dalla wrote this song while imagining how Caruso, who knew he was dying, would have said goodbye to his young wife - the love of his life. Fun Fact: in sicilian dialect the word caruso means (ragazzo) boy. Greetings from Firenze (Florence) Italy I invite you to visit the KZfaq channel: "Amazing Italian Melodies Italy" Marco is the boss and he translate into English each song, i translate in Spanish
