Great video Lara, I had very unpredictable periods from age 42-46, and they were a lot heavier than they had been before. I also had bloating & I found the best relief came from avoiding caffeine. Just switching to decaf coffee made a huge difference xx

Your peri menopausal talk is helpful! I think if you start to experience changes to your periods that is a sign of it unless there’s another medical reason but you would need to get it checked out! And it could be linked with the bloating! when I started going through it I had to do a lot of self research and learning about it as I had no idea about what us women go through! x

For the last 18 months I thought I was peri menopausal, but after another trip to the gynaecologist as still no period but my hormone levels were testing normal. I was gaining weight, serious bloating, all of the peri menopause symptoms (I'm also 40), anyway it turns out its PCOS. Have u been checked for this, as with the acne is also a very common symptom of PCOS as is the bloating and irregular periods.

Hi Lara! I know you’ve said before you’ve been checked for endometriosis, but I have it & adenomyosis. And you truly cannot be tested for endo, you only know through an exploratory surgery and every symptom you have I had!! I had a hysterectomy last Feb (I’m 30 but it’s changed my life). Just don’t count that one out yet! It can’t be seen on imaging yet many gynos/obgyn dismiss it by that. Just a thought, I’m so sorry you’re suffering I completely understand how you feel!

I also struggle with the bloat, especially before a period is due! I've recently done some blood tests with York Test for food and environment allergies, food intolerance and an essential health check. Was quite surprised that I had high reactions to cow's milk, hazlenut, soy, crab and peanut. Since cutting down on my milk and trying to move over to Oat milk i've definitely felt better and noticed a difference. But it's been really hard completely cutting these foods out! Also on the period front, mine were determined by pill until I had my little boy. He is now 2 and I came off all pill stuff last christmas, i'm now adjusted and like clockwork for the first time, but having a baby made my body system change SO much!

So many different opinions and so many methods, yet for most normal humans it is so challenging to stay trim among tempting processed foods and food centric social culture. Supplements, potions, programs, products, doctors, fads, diets, you name it.. Well.. if you find something that works for you, and it's sustainable - then go for it!

Hi, I had the EXACT same bloating as you for years, until very recently. I started eating healthier and cut down on sugar. The other thing that was recommended to me by a personal trainer was to take a glutamine supplement. I bought a bag of it in powdered form by the brand ‘Bulk’. You mix it into water twice a day. I’m not sure if that’s what helped me, but I now now longer suffer from bloating. I do have the normal bloating you get before a period, but I’m no longer massively distended for weeks at a time. Combining healthy eating, lifting some weights once a week and taking the supplement saw my waist reduce by a whopping 6 inches! At my worst I was 38 inches around my belly! Thought I’d share what worked for me x

I get mega bloated before my period too, I’m pretty sure it’s related to hormones, also deep fried stuff bloats me too. I think it’s something to do with the gallbladder not being able to digest the fat very well. Sounds like you had an IBS flare up, hopefully it settles quickly!

Hi Lara...just here to say that if your not on any prescription medications then in regards to hormonal fluctuations, periods ect I highly advise looking into magnesium supplementation.. its the anti stress mineral that has over 300 uses in the body and a big one being hormonal balance. Iv been taking magnesium bi-glycinate for many years to aid sleep/calm and as a benefit its helped my periods/pms/water retention/mood/anxiety. Beware most magnesiums that can be purchased on the highstreet will be made from magnesium oxide which is cheaply made and poorly absorbed. I have also found apple cidre vinegar every morning esp around pms time to be really beneficial too. Its worth doing your own research in regard to magnesium as many different types and uses. But it is something i would recommend to any one who is suitable to take it.. as it is not suitable for some people on certain medications. If all my usual strategies aren't cutting it then sometimes I will have some cbd for extra sense of calm lol. I'm 37 is that makes any difference.. I may not be peri quite yet but the pms is hitting more with increasing years 😅.

You look amazing Lara also a lot going on. Our bodies are like a clock and when the batteries need changing we go down. I remember "as an older woman" going through various symptoms when around your age, particularly feeling my body was in the way and I had heard this but I cannot for the life of me describe it. Horrible feeling. I feel so much for you with this bloating thing it sounds horrendous and so disturbing for you. Is your non sleep connected I wonder????. You should keep a diary of day by day and see what ads up. Tbh I CANNOT bring my phone to bed as definitely it keeps me awake and I turn it off as early in the evening as I can. Hope you will be ok. Great for you to chat regarding women's problems.

So I'm having a few OGYBN issues right now too. I'm 46 and like you never really had issues. Last month I had the worst pain for 3 days so looked into Endometriosis and thought oh no here we go but this month there is no pain but I have had a heavy period for 10 days I was so exhausted the doctor checked my hormone levels and hemoglobin and found I'm anemic so I got 2 days in hospital for a transfusion. I also got a transverse pelvic ultrasound (it's just a wand they put inside your V-ga - it's not painful at all and they found I had uterine polyps which are totally begin but they said it's causing my heavy periods and bloating and I'm going in for a clean and sweep as they didn't want to do a full hysterectomy yet (thank goodness as I would struggle with recovery time LOL)

@@LaraJoannaJarvis well if eating chocolate was a sport ... then maybe we could enjoy sports.... lol! It's hard with food intolerance because of all the 'may contain "this" due to manufactoring method' it might just be some onion or garlic slipped into curry sauce or something (sorry can't remember what you ate) but it was quite a reaction you had there so it's can't have been an insignificant amount :s - feel better soon x

I don't remember if they have checked you for gallstones? Just thinking that after a bit of indulgence during holidays and then a fatty food brought it on. Considering youve been doing fasting lately, it can make bile more concentrated so would be no harm to check it out or introduce some liver/bile supplements as a precaution

Sorry the bloating is back so bad. I'm 47 and have been perimenopausal for about 2 years. The bloating could be related to the beginnings of it. Also, bear in mind the chip shop will be using their fryers to cook onion rings etc so there may be some in the oil. If you want to ask about perimenopause I'm happy to chat to you.
