One of my first video's please bare with me. My customer wanted to have a fully off grid power system but also wanted to run both AC's and have power left over. I've installed many Inverters and battery systems but this one was quite large. I know I made some mistakes along the way but overall it turned out very well. Yes I know the wiring got a bit cramped, I should have expanded my install area. I have 35 years experience with electrical systems but I will never consider myself and expert as I learn new things every day. This install has lead to others contacting me for help and I look forward to and hope to make more videos of my work. Please I welcome the comments but please keep the language clean. And if you don't like what I did that's fine also I just ask you keep any Rudd comments to yourself. Blessings and if your watching this today, I wish you a very blessed Easter day :)

Sir, you are too humble. Your video is great. The install is fantastic. Clever use of the CB-approach to the antennas. Caring enough to layout the roof in such a way others can come behind you and get their work done speaks volumes to your work ethic. I have seen a LOT of installs, and this one is top notch. I learned something new too, and it is such a great idea. With as much wattage as your customer is generating, that 30A buddy plug is super smart. That alone was worth the view. keep the vids AND ideas coming. SUBSCRIBED!

This is like bringing a spaceship to a stick fight. Holly wow! Nicely done indeed. My main concern would be exceeding tongue weight of the tow vehicle. All that weight. I hope they have a proper vehicle for all that. Has to be like a 1500 lbs on the tongue with all that weight up front.

We calculated around 600 lbs for the batteries, inverters, panels. Of course wire, plywood, brackets all add up also. And the generator. I think 1500 would be on the high side. Probably more like 1200. Buy still a lot of extra weight.

Good job for your first vid especially. Antenna placement with spring bases was rad. We all would do things differently after we get done so don't spend much time on that. I would be interested in the thought behind how you got to what you installed and why you picked the manufacturer you did. Liked the forethought in layout on the roof to allow for service afterward.

This was fantastic. Plus, you're the only guy we've seen who puts in a comprehensive (or even any) fan-driven ventilation. People generally don't even think about the heat these systems produce, especially when you add hot summer temps. Question though: the RV power outlet you added to the rig: how do you get 3000 watts out of it? Aren't those Victron 3000 MultiPluses only 2400W continuous output? I'm pretty sure.

3kw was just a number based on the inverters. 3000 would be max brief draw really. One would have to be careful of course. Customer is intending to just use his rv cord and run it into his garage and run like fridge/freezer and whatnot while rv is parked there. Why not, it litullery cost bout $30 in parts and he can take advantage of the system while not using the rv.

Not sure how you have the two Victron Inverters programmed, but setting one up in Master mode, and the second in slave mode allows my Color GX to control both inverters. You do need to plug one Victron into the other via an ethernet cable. The two will then recognize each other and cooperate together as one (after some setup with a laptop). In 50a split phase mode, the Color GX will show the L1/L2 power draw separately on the display.

@RVSparky
@RVSparky 3 жыл бұрын
Hybrid ? Well these victrons are pretty much hybrid already. They are charger, inverter, and assist inverters. And yes they can be dialed down a bit which customer does when on 30 amp power or generator. Because the two units both charging at full power is nearly 30 amps full.

@@RVSparky Two inverters is beyond my understanding of how they hook up and how to use/charge with them. That is a BIG system. I use a Magnum 3012 www.continuousresources.com/products/magnum-msh3012m-3000w-off-grid-hybrid-inverter With a remote controller to dial up/down my draw when using my 2k Honda generator or when I plug into standard household current for Mooch docking. www.continuousresources.com/products/magnum-me-rc50-digital-lcd-remote-with-50-cable Easy to make adjustments for varying circumstances from inside my 5th wheel. We have 1200 watts of solar and 500 amp hours of lithium. Many of my other components are Victron, good stuff. I run my air conditioning with my little Honda and get extra power (through the hybrid inverter) from my batteries as needed.
@RVSparky
@RVSparky 3 жыл бұрын
@@nickrica7501 Ya Magnum inverters are great and my preference for RV'S because they are simpler to operate and usually physically fit into the same area that the xantrex units are. One big flaw with their inverters is the working space for the AC wires. Almost impossible to get any 6/3 SOO wire in there! And no one ever, in any review video, talks about it. Another flaw with the Touch 50 is the USB and HDMI preinstalled wire. It’s about 3’ long, which requires you to buy additional length of usb and hdmi wires to use it (in my case, my power plant is about 20’ from where I want to mount the TOUCH 50). I also would like for KZfaq creators to actually discuss weather or not some of this equipment is necessary or just for show.
@RVSparky
@RVSparky 3 жыл бұрын
Yes 100% agree. The space for the AC wires is just stupid small. I had to extend the cables to the touch 50 (which I think is WAY overpriced given its size). The hdmi extension worked fine but usb did not. I ended up using a USB car charger hardwired to 12v source near the touch. Works fine that way and honestly I had anticipated that as usb does not like long distance. I did know I was gonna make a video, so I did things for show yes but really are not any unused or un nessessory parts in this system just for show sake. Thanks for the feedback 🙂

Customer still has generator so needed an ATS switch. And since the victron units have very little room in them for the AC wires, I just ran those wires to this larger box I used and put the ATS in the same box. Using it as junction box and it really helped.

Very nice looking system, I"ve some questions for you about the battery protect. How are you using the battery protect here? is it just for direct dc loads? I've read that a battery protect should not be used with inverters with the exception of using the remote on/off switch to control the inverter. do you have the inverter dc power running through the battery protect?
@RVSparky
@RVSparky 2 жыл бұрын
The battery protect goes between the batteries and the RV's 12v system only. They are a single direction devise. So no current can flow back. As such cannot use them for an inverter/charger. It basically just shuts off the power to the rv 12v systems if the voltage drops to low. Honestly I think it's a bit unnecessary as the batteries internal bms should to the same thing.
@tinyhouseonwheelsireland
@tinyhouseonwheelsireland 2 жыл бұрын
@@RVSparky Thanks for the quick response, another question if you don't mind answering please, the positive output going from your mppt charge controllers to the battery, are you routing those cables through the battery protect?
@RVSparky
@RVSparky 2 жыл бұрын
@@tinyhouseonwheelsireland no. Nothing can feed power back through the battery protect. It's a one way devise. Since its solid state it's using a transistor/Moffett or something internal that will not allow reverse current flow. So anything that's gonna charge the batteries need to be on the battery side of the protect devise.

Yes. U can connect pretty much everything via cat 5 to the cerbo and controll everything from it. I will say however the display controls are a bit clunky, and instead of an app that controls the cerbo, you have to do controls through the Porta. Past the shunt the negative cable tot he Lynx Power in is ~ 95F and the cable ground to the frame is about 90F. All connections have been checked and torqued to spec. Have you seen this issue before? @@RVSparky Appreciate the confirmation...have posed this question to other installers and either they don't understand cable resistance / heating or do not want to show a lack of expertise.
