Vanilla has gotten crazy expensive. I've started to make my own which is so much cheaper. I found a place to get bulk orders of vanilla beans which makes it even more economical.

Love your videos. I use coconut oil when cooking eggs (scrambled and fried). Also great to saute shrimp in. Just a cautionary note -- please be careful switching around your pet food. My dad was a veterinarian. It's not good for their system to change up brands. When doing so, you should ease it in.

The price of pet food has increased dramatically here in the UK As has the price of food in general although shops own brands tend to be cheaper ,it pays to shop around Like you always keep your eyes open for the offers 😉

From a UK point of view, our shop brand products are far more cheeper for instance 1 can of mushroom is 65p frozen sweetcorn £1.60 kg . But our vanilla is £5 for 100ml. Also we can't get larger style packages. The chocolate chips I buy come in small 1cup bags can be quite expensive when backing with grandchildren.

you should make your own vanilla extract. Becky from Acre homestead makes hers too and she uses a gallon of a good quality rum and just sticks 20-30 vanilla beans in it and lets it sit for like 6 months if i remember correctly

what I did with all my very old clippings (from my Mom) and very old books(been collecting for years) that were fragile and falling apart- I bought a binders and the clear plastic page protectors that are archival safe- even the smallest newspaper fragments I put in a sleeve, because you can read both sides thru the sleeve- I placed in binders - some are full books and some are by subject- like chicken, breads, cookies, etc -

There used to be a company called Charles Chips that was very common, at least in the SE USA, and my absolute favorite item from them was ketchup potato chips. I believe Charles Chips still exists, but not like before. They were unique in that they actually had vans with drivers that would go around to businesses on a schedule and you could order from many delicious treats. For the potato chips, they sold a refillable metal can and you could then buy refill bags cheaper. Everything was really good and I miss them.

I love a Costco haul. I usually go maybe twice a year but I live alone, so I don’t get nearly as much. Your prices are comparable to ours, I live in northeastern Ontario. You are quite right about the clothes being a good quality there. I always get something from there when I go.

Coconut oil is a great to use on your skin. It had antioxidants and does not cause breakouts it actually will help breakouts to clear up. It also makes you feel very soft

There is a guy here in Nova Scotia that has been collecting old community cookbooks ( old fund raiser books) and putting them into pdf, he then posts them on Facebook bc he wants the knowledge to continue ,it's wonderful seeing all, the old recipes from the tiny little fishing communities. Let me know if it would be OK to post his page name....would love for more people to benefit from his work.

I make my own vanilla, I buy a bunch of vanilla beans and a half gallon vodka, split the beans in half, put in the vodka. Let set in a cool dark place, shake once a week, will be ready after 6 months but can go a lot longer. The longer it sets the darker it gets.

1800.00! I am in shock at how expensive things are. I saw a simple steak at 103.00 kg. Picked up ground beef marked down half price and canned it!! Love your channel.

I make my own Vanilla and also gift it. The first batch is the hardest because the wait is long. I find 6 months is good. Great haul.

Wonderful haul of groceries; thanks for sharing! Here in west Alberta, I think those costs are about the same. I don’t go to Costco (an hour away) but we have 3 large grocery outlets here in town. Definitely things have gone up 2 or 3 dollars more each but we buy our beef from a family member, so we can get it significantly more reasonable for around $4./lb. Our wages here are pretty good because there’s lots of work for most. Blessings to all🤗💜🇨🇦

I like the coconut oil too. I keep it out so I remember to use it. Really good olive oil is very expensive. I like to bake with the cheaper light olive oils and the coconut oil, but butter if I have it.

We love sweet potato fries too! I bought these ones from Costco & they’re delicious! We make a chipotle aioli to dip them in by mixing some mayonnaise with a little bit of BBQ sauce. Highly recommend! ☺️

I have a friend in Camloops. She brings me syrup and ketchup chips when she visits. Best chips ever!!

We use coconut oil and add it making chicken curry (the easy kind in a pre-mixed cube, it's a japanese brand I think) and it is really good. It does take away some of the flavor from the spices and adding coconut oil does makes the curry flavor not so strong.

I bet you could laminate the fragile paper clippings. I am so jealous of your canning pantry. I use to watch my gma can, and I LOVED it, and I thought to myself that one day I would do some canning. Now I haven't tried it b/c I am scared that I will give my family Bacheloism. I just need to over come that fear! I love hearing the tops pop after they come out of the canner.

My husband and I were just pricing canned mushrooms in Pennsylvania, US. I used to be able to get the 4 oz can (113 gm) for .79 cents at a local discount store. That same size is $1.50 for stems and pieces and the regular sliced are $2.54 at Walmart. The discount store has not had cases of them for close to a year and only randomly has a few cans of dents and bents of mushrooms now. My husband rarely goes in a grocery store but I think he's starting to get why over the last year I have been rebuilding our stockpile. We built a new house last year and had to eat down our pantry so we didn't have to move it twice as we were living with our daughter while they took down the old place and built the new one.

The Kirkland brand of both dog and cat food is amazingly good quality kibble! Signficantly better than anything you'll find at any other grocery store. By far the best price for the size of bag, and if you compare the ingredients to something like Whiskas (which is somehow more expensive??), there are no fillers like corn and wheat, and no dyes. I feed my cats the orange bag, and my dogs the blue bag (both fish based).

We live in northern North Dakota and it is actually easier and cheaper for me to go to Winkler Manitoba to the Walmart, especially in the winter. It saves me over 2 hours of drive time and when the Canadian dollar is so much less than the US dollar I can really save a lot of money. The down side is I can't buy raw meat and am limited on the fruits and veggies I can buy. When the kids were still at home we only went once a month to the city so we would spend easily $1,000 to resupply. I really enjoyed your video!

Hi Chelsea have you considered making your own vanilla extract? Initial expense is quite high but you can make so much for your financial outlay. Now you have milk cows you’ll also be able to make buttermilk and therefore delicious Irish soda bread which does not contain yeast and makes a great hearty healthy loaf of bread.

Costco is so much more expensive than before, some times I don't think is worth it!

I know exactly what you mean I don’t know if you’ve ever had an experience in your life when your kids were small and there was next to no food in your cupboards but as a single mother at the time I had that experience and over the years it’s stuck with me and I almost get anxious if I see my cupboards getting low on food and I always stock up and feel so much more relief when my pantry is fully stocked and I can keep moving forward with comfort knowing no matter what else in the world might be going on I’ll be able to cook great nutritious food for my family. Just curious where that comes from? Might also be a Canadian mindset and to do with not always being able to just go to the store whenever you feel like it. I’m sure having a Costco 31/2 hrs away it must be a great appreciation for their prices compared to regular grocery stores in your area especially when feeding such a large family? I thoroughly enjoy seeing what all you purchase and different products then I’ve ever tried. I try to stay away from packaged foods because of all the preservatives in them even the organic ones can have additives that I can’t pronounce or I don’t know what they are. I couldn’t believe the cost of the groceries on the final tally because there were no cleaning products, no toiletry items and next to no meat!!! It’s INSANE the prices of everything!!! You would think at least half of your grocery shopping should be in protein or meat and you had hardly any. I know when I’m not buying meat in my groceries and I think what did I buy for all that money?!? You didn’t even have eggs the expense of eggs or cheese or milk (cream cheese but still) ugh! I think it’s a travesty when it costs so much and you get sooo little, no flour, very little baking products except vanilla and coconut oil. Sorry it costs sooo much and I fear it’s only going to get worse, honestly I don’t know how families are going to survive??? Sooo terribly sad the prices. I miss those salmon burgers from when I lived in Alberta! I haven't found them in New Brunswick yet.

Everything is so expensive now, I compared prices from December to April, (found a groceryticket in my pantry) and some thing are 30%up😮, i live in the Netherlands, (Holland) and the only cheap stuff are vegetables in season right now. So we eat a lot of cabbage, leek, sauerkraut, sprouts and some early lettuce from our greenhouse.

Your berries, sugar, advil, bread, Ice, and several other items seemed to be very comparable to our prices in NC on the U.S. East coast. Several of your items seemed cheaper than here, vanilla extract, olive oil, salmon burgers, light bulbs are a few I'm remembering. Seems that you got some good buys.

Kirkland cat food is higher quality than Whiskas or Friskies. Definitely worth switching! We feed our cats Taste of the Wild which is $70 for a 14lb bag (one of our cats has chronic health problems so he needs grain-free food and as you know small town BC has limited options!), but Kirkland Nature's Domain brand is essentially the same product and we will buy that when we get a chance to get to Costco.

Oh wow on the Vanilla. I love that one but here in Ontario at Costco it does not come two pack only one and it is 17.99. That is fantastic. Ok so the Franks Hot sauce her for two pack runs about the same, and when on sale is 7.99 which they do often so I grab it them. Oh yes on the Chicago mix. 6.99 here. Same price on the Annies 19.99. The butter here 4.99 a block. Love the pantry as always what a wonderful feeling. hugs

Some of the food prices are much more expensive than Edmonton's Costco. I was just there on Saturday, May 13, 2023, and the Ice Drinks were 5.00 cheaper (not on sale), for example. Frozen veggies were also a couple bucks more expensive, and so were the berries compared to Edmonton. The olive oil is cheaper here by a couple bucks as well and so is the Avocado Oil

Just a thought about your old cook book, maybe you could take a photo of all the cuttings before they disintegrate Too much then at least you have them copied.

I couldn't find the Dole pineapple at Cosco. But, at Sam's Club I found 4- 20 oz cans for $7.18

I’ve been replacing my pans with that brand that your wok is. I just told my husband tonight if something drastic happens to my pans, I’m replacing them with the exact same thing! They’re not Teflon lined - which I like AND I can fry an egg without any butter at all and it slides right out. $1330 American dollars! Yikes! Lol
