If they rebuild, there is no way I would take an apartment there! Burning twice in 2 years? Uh-uh, ain't doing it!

Twice in 2 years! Wow I'd stay away from that myself. Anyway they should install a sprinkler system the next time they rebuild

@@henryD9363 IN my country, sprinkler systems are mandatory by law for all apartments built since 1980. Insurance companies will cut you a huge discount if they know a sprinkler fire suppression system is part of the building.

Burning again after a huge fire two years ago? I'd say that has nothing to do with the construction, insomuch as the nature of the tenants whom rent there!

Worth it! Every apt that is left will have at least water or smoke damage. I saw that happen first hand with neighbor. No fire damage downstairs apt but was totaled from water damage

I work the aftermath of these disasters and having renters insurance makes easier to recover. Loss of memories etc can’t be replaced. Being in a safe warm place will get you through the loss. It’s not expensive and landlords should require it.

Renters insurance is well worth the small cost to have it. Consider what it would cost to replace all your belongings, renters insurance is worth every penny of its cost.

That’s ridiculous. Why they didn’t have a 2 and 1/2 inch line laid around back with two 1 and 3/4 lines wyed off it fighting that is baffling. Guess that’s why Houston FD has the reputation it does

They had to transition to defensive mode. Takes time to move all that hose around. Doesn’t happen in the blink of an eye.

It look like that ladder tower with a nozzle on top was never used. I saw only one stream across the roof and then another from the guys on the balcony. Meanwhile the ladder truck was doing nothing

Are sprinkler systems mandatory in apartment complexes in the US?

@@floridared8444 Thanks for the reply. Here in New Zealand all new builds that will meet an occupancy threshold...among other criteria... must have sprinklers installed and older buildings that meet those same thresholds are required to have sprinkler systems retrofitted if not already installed. There are also passive fire protection requirements for new builds and again older buildings can be required to have improvements retrofitted where appropriate. Even if new builds are not required by law to have sprinklers installed...owners will take this step anyway to protect their investment. It is also encouraged that all new houses built in rural areas...that are served by volunteer brigades...have sprinklers installed for obvious reasons.

The second hand smoke is worse than the flames. Second hand smoke can kill in seconds. You barely have time to grab your pants and your smart phone when you smell smoke and hear the bell.

That fire could have been extinguished from the ground using tank water within the first few minutes after arrival. Of course, they wouldn't have gotten to use their expensive toys.
