@@geemcgraff8281 I totally understand your point and I agree that many people don’t like snakes. Maybe mencken8 use of ignorant can be seen a bit offensive? I have to side with mencken here though. My childhood, outside of school, was almost entirely in the woods behind the house. By eight years old my friends and I were riding mini bikes all day in the woods or building forts. Snakes freaked me out then too but we’d still try to catch them. Today in this country most kids spend their childhood with walls around them. Inside playing video games or in the fenced in yard. When my friends bring their kids on a hike now, it’s mostly on a paved bike path in manicured grass fields. Perhaps unfamiliar works better than ignorant?

@swayback737512 күн бұрын
No, it’s not, and no you don’t. There’s no 5’ water snakes, it’s certainly not average, course I have no idea what you’re calling a “water snake” there’s only a few in the US tho, they don’t get 5’. A 5’ rat snake isn’t really average either, that would require them to live for more than a few years which is hard for them to do, especially anywhere near humans. Still not a newsworthy story at all.
@user-dg8kk7dz2c12 күн бұрын
Go to any trail in the smokey mountains and you'll find a average rat snake is about 4 ft and 5 ft is definitely within the realm of possibility. And I have pictures of the water snake so I'm pretty sure it existed. and that snake there showing is NoT 5 ft. Most people aren't smart enough to even know what 12 inches looks like.
@user-dg8kk7dz2c12 күн бұрын
I'm curious though, if your so knowledgeable, what do you THINK it is? Just tell me I'm wrong without knowing what it is?
@michaellovelace384410 күн бұрын
If their maximum size is supposed to be 8 feet, I probably saw a world record years ago. What amazed me was how thick its body was. It was no mystery how it got that big though, the area was the flood plain of a creek and that water table had been going up for 30 years, so a bunch of small ponds had formed with no fish in them. Every pond seemed to have 1000 polliwogs in it and 100 frogs around it, so the snake had pretty much a limitless food supply.

If the picture on the video is of the snake in question, that is NOT a Rat Snake. Rat Snakes do not have Keeled Scales, as that snake in the picture clearly has, but rather smooth scales. Water Snakes DO have Keeled Scales, and likely the snake in question. A 5' long Water snake would be a big one, but not beyond possibility. Snakes tend to look far bigger to those afraid of them, than they actually are. Likely a Common or Green Water Snake, either one is harmless.
