Mark Smith had one of the larger car collections on the East Coast, that was mostly housed in Lynchburg, VA. Unfortunately Mark passed away last November leaving this massive collection behind. Mark did donate a large portion of his nicer cars to museums, and even gifted a few to friends. The remaining cars and parts were auction off this past week and it was one of the largest auctions we have been to in a few years. The auction was held over 3 days with over 700 pallet loads of parts and 350+ cars sold, which doesn't include the boats and boat parts! Matt and Mike filled their trailer with a whole bunch of great parts that they will take back to the warehouse and lay out in another video! Let us know in the comments below what your favorite car or part you saw in the auction!!

Oh, those glorious old cars! That warehouse was better than any museum because the cars were all survivors, with all the slings and arrows the decades have inflicted, protected but not altered in any way. Not even washed! I wish I could have seen them ...

The 1934 McQuay-Norris Streamliner is a pretty unique car, but that's not only because of its rather peculiar design. With only six units built from 1933 to 1934, you'd be hard-pressed to find something like it on the road - much more so with the fact that only one is currently in existence, in the Lane Motor Museum, and now this one..... so cool

That was also my absolute favourite. It will be a long way to restore it. A LOT will have to be handmade. But I bet the endresult will be worth all the trouble.

@@beatglauser9444It might not be as big a project as it seems. The body is all there from the looks. It might be aluminum so no big rust issues, and the frame and engine are basically stock 30's Ford. The biggest issue would likely be the wooden parts which framed the body, which as you said would have to be handmade. I would've liked to have seen the inside as I understand the main purpose of the car was to promote the companies engine parts products and had myriad gages to demonstrate the quality of their engine parts. Hopefully all the gages are still there.

I met Mark Smith 7 years ago. I could not believe the cars that he owned. He had some very rare prewar cars that I had only seen pictures of in old books. Some were 1 of 12, or 1 of 4, etc. I liked his old car dealership in town. The basement was full of early V8 Fords and NOS flathead speed equipment. He died too young. RIP.

I too liked the old Ford Hippiemobile. Sure, $10K to go through it, and another $5K on the interior, preserving the "Folk Art" aspect. And you'll still be in cheaper than some $50k 2020 modern thing that will go to the salvage in 10 more years. And restored, that would be a fun camper/show truck that would hold its value for generations.

Yes in California there are many many warehouse full of collections of old stuff that is not open to the public you have to know someone to get in to see people's collections. Then you have the younger guy's that are collecting stuff. Back in the early 1990s this guy in my town had over 200 car's in his back yard. He has been collecting car's and truck's since the late 1960s. The city came out with a city code and said he couldn't have all those vehicles in his back yard. He and up moving to Nevada and took his collation of car's with him. He had prime car's and truck's in his collection everything and anything he was buying for low prices. He would tow people's old car's and truck's that they didn't want in there drive way or garage. This was when people thought they were just old junks in there yard that didn't run. Not knowing 40 year's later they would be collectables or rare.

I liked the 1949 Ford heavy duty cab over with the house trailer grafted on the back. Looks like there were a lot of fun times in there. Where I grew up, there was a similar rig that ran around for about twenty years. It is a late 50s Ford flatbed (5 ton?) that had a camping trailer grafted onto the back. It didn't stick up too high so maybe the flatbed was taken off and, like the hippie truck, a passageway between the trailer and cab was cut. Must have worked well. I saw it running around for years. I liked the Packard coupe and sedan. With straight eights. If I could have a vintage car in driving condition for tooling around it, it would be one of those.

I enjoyed seeing all the old cars. There were some real beauties there that I’m sure brought big bucks. That ‘32 phaeton got my attention. I believe that it was a deluxe model making it really special. It brought a handsome price and was probably worth the money to the buyer. I imagine that the four cylinder is more rare than the V-8 model but somewhat less desirable. Looks like you made another great haul.
