Hello, I like to ask questions☺️, so I just want to ask you now : Don't you find everything in nature pleasurable as well as terrifying ? I'm only curious. I think everything in nature is wonderful and can make people happy but at the same time if we forget that we are a part of nature and we try to surpass it, then the nature shows us how powerful it is and it seems to be quite terrifying.😁 Sorry for long comment, but I'm really curious what you think of it. a tsunami is a displacement of water enough to travel many miles inland this wave has height and power, but not enough potential energy to survive past the shore. Edit: hence the term wave in the video, not tsunami. although i recognize the humorous aspect of your statement, the internet is full of idiots and they'll see a wave like this and freak out cause they think that its a tsunami and they'll die shortly.

We used to swim in the ocean as kids on the east coast of canada, we'd go after hurricanes or if there were storms down south as there would be bigger waves. Never surfed we just boogie boarded and smashed around in them.. 10' waves seem huge when you are up to your shoulders. Sometimes crashing around in them while being sent to the beach I'd be fighting trying to pop out to breathe it seemed like eternity.. then you'd reach shore and run back for more. After one hurricane we went and the beach was closed and thats the only time I saw that they could close them.. Way out in the distance you could see 30' waves crashing white walls of surf into shore.. They'll actually toss rocks onto the road at times. We had no desire to go smashing around in them we were in awe. That wave was 73' the thought terrifies me.

Insane, I just did a Surf beginner course and got caught in some 1 to 2 meter waves. Tumbles you in every direction. Honestly had some seconds where i did not know where is up or down. I cant even imagine what a 20 meter wave does to you, when it eats you.

You can see or surf these giant waves during the colder months of the year in Nazaré, Portugal. Prior to the pandemic, we used to go there every summer. Many beautiful beaches along the coast in that region. There is a fortress which was turned into a museum on the dramatic cliff, Fort of Saint Michael the Archangel, and you can watch the fearless surfers from an amazing location.

I think it's more a case of what point do you measure as it's continually growing but by the time she's near the base of the wave it's hitting it's peak. So do you measure then or as it's creating, crashing or when she gets consumed by it?
@DaveWhoa
@DaveWhoa 4 жыл бұрын
from Guinness World Records: Measuring the size of waves is extremely difficult and, in this case, required teams from the University of Southern California, WaveCo Science Team and Scripps Institution of Oceanography to review the footage as independent witnesses. Video and photographic evidence are all observed whilst using scientific calculations based on real-world coordinates and reference points such as the surfer’s height and length of the board itself.
