yes alot of kits are designed that way.... the ez drummer messugah plugin has real series of cymbals and percusion recorded presets and then they used there own plugin to record their album

LOVE the drumming HATE the Gen 16 cymbals. this guy is amazing! 1. great dynamic control 2. extremely accurate time proof that a great drummer can make crappy equipment sound good!

i kinda think i know what you meant by that.when you play on a electronic kit almost every note you hit has a pre mixed tone that sounds the same 9 time out of 10. when you play the kit even the angle and area where you strike the drum changes were on electronic kits it sounds the same everywhere even tho they have improved so muched compared to the simmons kits of the 1980's.

Yes, and the cymbals are acoustic but the sound is enhanced with a little computer.

yeah it sounds the same on crappy electronic drum sets. but this is other thing, especially for cymbals. the cymbals do emit a soundwave but not so loud. the microphones beneath them receive the waves and the sound is processed by the computer. here it does matter how you hit the cymbal, it's not triggered. And I suppose drums are good to. you can see sometimes he accents some notes and plays some quieter.

Well though I agree it is dumb to think this is cheating, you cant compare electric guitars with electrONIC kits. Electric guitars are EXACTLY the same process as acoustics, except the fact that the sound is miced and then amplified through a speaker instead of being amplified by a resonance box. Also, being a drumer isnt just limited by the playing. It's also the tuning, the research of the nice sound, for some the recording count also, so in that way of thinking elecTRONICs kit is cheating.

Dude, what if i tell you that the Zildjian Gen 16 cymbals (the ones on the vid) work like an electric guitar? They aren't sample based. And yamaha is making efforts to make drum heads like that as well. And you need knowledge when it comes to sound engineering to work with a e-kit in recording sessions. It isn't plug and play, so your argument is invalid.
