As I have a character that is not only an herbalist but also a brewer this makes me so happy. (Edit: she literally makes alcoholic health, strength, energy, etc potions. Dangerous but fun!)

@Jaeler9
@Jaeler9 6 ай бұрын
@@Nienna_Asyare indeed. I found it very funny when I wrote her a while ago. “Bartender that on the sly heals you while you drink?” But as medicinal alcohols exist (very low alcohol content so the likely hood of you getting drunk before the medicinal part of it kills you is nill. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.) in real life, to a limited extent (tinctures are one such example, so are bitters but we think of a bitter as a flavoring agent not a medicinal one) I didn’t feel it was outside the realm of possibility. Especially in a fictional or magical world.

The alcohol in tinctures actually acts as a preservative as well as a carrier so they last quite well.

@@elaniarkady7351 go for it! It’s an OLD idea. After all bitters and different botanicals have been added to brews, from weak beers to much harder alcohols, since brewing began. Granted for taste and preservation much of the time but also for medicinal reasons. Hops is actually a very good example of this as both a bittering agent in beer but also used medicinally. Also honey, used as both flavoring and medicinally today as well. There are archaeological evidences back to ancient Mesopotamia. There are also, in texts from the Tudor era to the Industrial Revolution, where house wives were actually taught how to make medicinals or add them to cooking or brewing. It’s only since the industrialization of our world that medicine has been the job of “someone else.” So to have a person who brews medicinally is historically accurate, though for the highly specialized or expensive treatments you probably would go to the closest church/abbey/monastery, but also fits in well with a fantasy setting, not everyone can afford the fancy healer but your local barkeep? Almost everyone can afford a beer. So again Go For It! Lemme know how it goes!

For the smaller vials, you ought to also use some of the various powdered drink mixes just to add a bit of taste to it.
@ArcticPuzzle

Wow, that looks great! Two ideas though: - A herbalist/pharmacist would definitely need something to measure stuff, like a measuring cup, or spoons of different sizes - for extra wow effect, and that's true in general: baking soda makes bubbles when in contact with acidic liquids (lemon juice), and red canbage cooking water is a pH indicator (red is alkaline, purplish is acidic) There are even more wow-inducing, food-safe color transformations out there! (e.g. the clear syrup from lychee tin cans, and the dull red syrup from cane-apple tin cans, make a tasty, vibrant purple when mixed) Edit: I would not recommend mixing any of those with probiotics or IV powder though, it might deactivate them (well, you never know)
@Ithirahad
@Ithirahad 6 ай бұрын
You can't "deactivate" liquid IV powder; it's just a bunch of metal salts, vitamins, sugar, and plant extracts. (And... really fine sand, to keep it from caking up in the package, which is a little odd to think about but whatever.) I can't think of any food-safe substance that'll break those down. Probiotics are a bit more finicky; best to keep those separate unless you actually know what you're doing - though, to be fair, they're supposed to survive your stomach acid plus whatever alcoholic concoctions you decide to drink afterwards, and retain inside your gut for several hours, so they must be somewhat tough.
@shaunsilverleaf2035
@shaunsilverleaf2035 6 ай бұрын
@@Ithirahad If one is going to use a pregame drink, it should include Milk Thistle. It protects the liver from toxins like alcohol and it is used along with activated charcoal in cases of poisoning from alcohol and poisonous mushrooms. Perhaps include both in the kit, if the drink doesn't have them.

Here's what this brings to my mind... Make a larger version of this, then put a pair of shoulder straps on it. Then the alchemist/medic has an assistant/servant that wears this as a backpack. They just turn around when the kit is needed and it's already at the right height for working.

You should add a funnel of some sort so you can more easily get the powder into the bottles and keep everything neat and clean, because otherwise that powder is going to get everywhere. You can just make a funnel with the paper, but I highly recommend just having some sort of smaller funnel in one of the pockets on the go.

Very tidy work. Well done. I made a open-and-unfold-flat leather "wallet" of sorts about 5-6 years ago. Using nearly identical small bottles (boiled out insulin vials) with whittled stoppers, one row of five on one side, one row of five opposite, stoppers facing each other, with leather strip sewn in (where you riveted) to hold the bottles like bullets. I use it for different seasonings for my food when I go camping. I'm planning a video to make a new one very soon. The old one was misplaced somewhere.

Anything that requires small tools or vials this would be perfect.

Fascinating design! Here’s an idea for furthering the overall concept: on the flap that goes flat once you open the bag; you could put in a battery powered heating element. That way you could serve warm to hot potions/drinks/food. Although you need to make an alchemical design in metal that will rest on top of the heating element to keep the theme.🤪

If you think about it, cooking/baking is alchemy. So, in that case, this bag and accoutrements could be used to hold/carry spices and other baking goodies. E.G., small bottles of salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and salt, oregano, and other spices. Along with liquid potions of Hot sauce, honey, BBQ sauces, lemon juice and whatever else you could think of. Add a small pack of sugar, and one of tea, or coffee and you have the very thing to have to "spice" up your meals while on a LARP!

Oooh, this could be useful for me, i might adapt it to something else than potion brewing tho, i might make it a "box of kitchen uttensils" Now i only need to figure out how to make a portable firepit

Rather water the folds which will dry out. You could use something like neatsfoot oil. (in finland / Sweden we have something that translates to leather fat) that would prevent drying out cracking etc.
