Good guide! Though personally, I prefer shorter swords (length of an outstretched arm). It forces me to get in closer, but my opponents tend to get very uncomfortable up so close and they can't lever their longer swords around as effectively. Gets around shields better, out of the way of the sharp end of the spear, etc. Plus stepping forwards is quicker than stepping backwards, so another advantage there. But that's just me. Typically the longer swords work better for most people. ^_^

I have a similar style of crowding my opponent and I can still use my 36" swords just as easily inside the pocket as well as outside. If you're on a large battle line your less likely to be able snipe shots as well as if you had a 42"+ sword but like you said your kind of screwed if people crowd you because you just don't have the ability to fight up close with that much weapon. With this length I can step in to make that range difference, strike and step out just as easily.

Can you recommend a good website to find LARP events? I tried what google recommended (larping.org meetup.com) & had no luck finding anything around my area.

Most events have been cancelled due to covid unfortunately. There are some online/digital larps going on that you can try out. Go larp haven on Facebook and ask around. It's a huge community and they'll be able to point you in the right direction. Hope that helps :)
