Lebron would be a power forward, Magic would be a Power Forward, though he played every position on the team at some point in his career. Kevin was a post up player. But combining 2 of the most prolific scorers as Forwards regardless of the adjective these guy had some great fun and won a few titles along the way. Just what a Dream Career should look like. Walton would have been the equivalent in NASCAR as "The Lucky Dawg" cause he happened to be around for some of it. His career was plagued by injuries and he was the 6th man for the Celtics spelling both McHale and Parrish. The "others" Ainge, Archibald, Maxwell, and Johnson who Bird considered one of the most cerebral Guards (player) he ever played with. It really was almost like having a Twin that thought and acted like him. In my day I clearly remember the huge DIVIDE racially when it came to the Lakers and Celtics. All my differented pigmented friends hated Boston While me and most of my light skinned friends LOVED EM. The dividing line was like a "Clear and Present Danger" cause one had to watch your words closely in a mixed crowd of there would DEFINITELY be a fight, as often did happen. But in them days we just threw fists, not bullets. And the next day apologizing for our dumbazzedness and shaking hands. Boy what a time in history to Love basketball. And I was a white boy from Indiana that LOVED B-BALL.

I am a 1970s kid & lived on the Range my whole life. I remember Kevin would come to the St Louis County Fair with his family. He always signed autographs for the 4-H kids working in the 4-H food stand & he spent the rest of the time focused on his family. Bird is always modest when talking about teammates. McHale on any other team is a good player, WITH BIRD, he's an ALL STAR. Bird made everyone better...Robert Parrish was a nice player that nobody cared about on Golden State... once paired w/ Bird, HALL of FAMER. No coincidence.
@stickman1742

On most other teams, McHale would have been the star. The guy was crazy good. A terrific scorer that played great defense. Even became a good 3 pt shooter later in his career. Never seen anyone with the offensive moves down low that he had. He set the Celtics record scoring 56 before Bird broke it with 60. Unfortunately, injuries shortened McHale's career. He was a rookie in '81 and never really was the same after the foot injuries in '87.

Bird did make everyone better, no question, but I agree with Stickman; on another team McHale is the featured offensive player and not sharing the floor with Bird and Parish. On almost any other team McHale is also a starter in his first or second year and not a 6th man for his first 5 seasons. Those three guys were incredibly unselfish when they played together and because of that, their numbers suffered some. On top of that, it wouldn’t have mattered where McHale played, the lower key and post were going to be a torcher chamber for offensive players playing against him.

What's funny about McHale (one of the greatest players ever) being identified as Irish is that people object when the "blacks" want to be called African American. Dual passports are not allowed for some, I guess. I'm not trying to start up anything, but I'm just saying that the Irish are like white people's mascots. I find it funny because being called Irish could be considered an insult when you think about it. The fighting Irish. Geez. It's like the drunken Irishman.

I say all this in respect to the unequivocal , unselfish team play you get with those Boston players , actually the chemistry & unselfish play ….not just the Boston players but also the rest of that lineup …. McHale could be either put at power forward or center position & the consummate unselfish , team player … In my opinion this team could demolish any team ever put together ….
