As a Lakers fan I HAFED Larry Bird,but over the years I learned to appreciate his game. When the HIV virus took Maguc from the game I'll never forget that he mentioned how Larry checked on him and showed that he care about his friend beyond basketball. Much respect his way since then👍

Magic truly believed Larry was the goat when they played, The things he did on the basketball court were unbelievable, Larry didn’t want to be friends purely to keep a competitive edge, but as soon as he thought he was going to loose him like he lost his dad it changed his mind set because the ones who inspire you to be a better version of yourself are the ones who you love the most.

Two astonishing people and both great role models and they did indeed " make " the NBA. With Magic and Bird it is like the comedian and the straight man. Magic was the best friend Larry ever had.

Yes, Letterman gave a great interview. It’s obvious he prepared for it in advance, but he also added impromptu comments and one-liners. He seemed genuinely thrilled to have two of his idols on the show. All three men were funny, in different ways.

In the documentary Magic choked up when he was telling the story in the documentary. It meant the world to Magic when Larry called him and you could tell it.

These two were class all the way. I love that these two great are great friends. I remember hearing about Magics HIV, everyone was stunned and confused. But Magic has always been much loved and it didn’t seem to change anyones view of him. Of course, I was still young, under 20, so may not have seen the backlash if there was any. He’s going strong, that’s all I care about. 😇 angels are watching him.

i dont think their would be a magic without bird, and i dont think their would be a bird without magic, they made each other the best. And thats how you know they were made to play each other, bird went and retired after he heard magic couldnt play anymore, thats a real brotherhood right there.

My fave player of all time is Larry & between Larry & Magic I give the nod to Larry. Magic even said it, Larry can do more….

When there's chemistry between people it's really a beautiful thing.

No one that has come along in the NBA since has replaced Bird for me. Being a great athlete is one thing, but Bird was playing chess on the court and forced his opponents to try to do the same if they wanted to win. He is one of a kind.

To me, Larry was the best. Other players with longer careers have achieved higher overall numbers and more total accolades but at his prime, nobody could touch him. Threepeat MVP and he defined new stat categories. But I don't think the GOAT should should be just about numbers; there's lots of things that don't show up in the box scores. Those other guys, they play basketball. They play DAMN GOOD basketball, but they play basketball. Bird LIVES basketball; he has Mastered of the Tao of Basketball. He's in your face and talkin' trash and telling you the play before he does it, then does it and laughs at you -- to your face. Then he laughs at your coach -- to his face. And the artistry of his play; his moves, his misdirections are worthy of the great slight-of-hand magicians. Playing left-handed just for shits and giggles. And he energizes the fans and captivates the public. And he throws himself after balls going out. And he plays hurt. He plays years of chronic pain, spend the day before the game in traction and pain meds hurt and he plays battle damaged, broken eye socket come back to secure the win hurt. And he builds his own court so he can take 700 shots a day, every day. Then retires to become Coach of the Year, then retires to become Executive of the Year. And something about saving the League when it was heading for the big swirly or something, I dunno...

My favorite is Bird but Majic is nipping at his heels. Stalwarts in basketball but more importantly they're stalwarts in life.

Favorite player was definitely Larry Legend, but you can't love Larry, without loving Magic. Those 2 will for ever be linked together. Any list you put them in as the GOAT's, whatever number one is, the other is on the other side of the /. It's either Larry/Magic or Magic/Larry. My Top 5, 1. Jordan, 2. Wilt, 3. Russell, 4. Kareem 5. Bird/Johnson

Anybody who loves the NBA owes Larry and Magic. They personally saved it from extinction. I remember the games were only shown late at night....like Roller Derby. LOL

I just found this video. Growing up in that time period, watching Lakers vs Celtics. Was must see TV. It was such a great time for the NBA. I was a Celtics fan, but respected & enjoyed watching the Lakers. The sport owes a debt to Larry & Magic..

Larry & Magic bonded at Larry’s house over lunch his mom fixed & told Magic he was her favorite player. Bird was one of the 1st to call after it came out Magic was HIV positive. They are good friends. ❤

I don't have a lot of respect for Letterman but I love this interview. And I give Larry the Legend respect for giving the respect to Magic. They battled it out on the court but 20 yrs later they give each other their kudos for both being great. As it should be. Kids today trying to get into the NBS should look at this interview and realize it takes hard work, dedication and respect. No Matter Color

I’ve researched and covered a lot of different angles and although I think Magic is the best point guard of all time I think the best three of all time in no particular order are MJ, Larry Bird and Kareem. In one of these players you had some that became a winner and knew how to win. In another you had someone that knew how to play his role to get the win on every level while being a dominant threat. The last you had someone that knew how to make his team winners and he did it on every level. Small unknown high school all the way to the championship. Small unranked college all the way to a championship. Dead last Celtics team to number 1 his rookie year.

I will always choose Magic over Larry because I became an NBA fan and a Lakers fan during their rookie season. I mean, what kid wouldn’t gravitate toward a player named “Magic”? But after the years of hating Larry through the rivalry of over a decade, I can now bring myself to admit that Larry was just as good a player as Magic, and better at certain things, where Magic was better at others. Magic was my favourite player of all time, til Kobe came along. They’re now 1a and 1b.
