That last story about Bird shows exactly what he was all about and what he would do to win. The day after winning the NBA championship Bird was out there training for the following year. He didn't take time off, he didn't manage his workload - he trained, played and gave 100% all the time.

You have to keep in mind the stories these players tell are when they are older, wiser and not as driven by team rivalries. There were team rivalries back when Magic and Bird were playing and that's what made that era so special. The current NBA is driven by Super roosters not teams.

Saw Bird play only once when the Celtics came to Oakland. The Warriors were pretty bad at the time and my Father and I were there to see Bird like pretty much everyone else in the Arena. If Bird played in today's soft ass league, where players get butt hurt from what people say, Bird would lead the NBA in ejections and technical fouls. Back in his day, players would fake injuries so they wouldn't have to check Bird. Today, players would do the same.
